In this episode of Tuna On Toast, Stryker interviews Brent Smith, lead singer of Shinedown! Brent starts out talking about an elderly fan who recently went viral because of her love for Shinedown and "The Sound of Madness". He also discusses the band’s hugely popular 2008 album, ‘The Sound of Madness,’ and why it was such a major moment in Shinedown’s career. Brent looks back on his early days, his upbringing, and the band he was in before Shinedown. Brent opens up to Stryker about his previous battles with addiction and his journey to sobriety. He also tells Stryker about his friend Jellyroll and explains why he’s so happy to see the singer’s success. Shinedown’s song “A Symptom of Being Human” is a huge radio hit for the band, and Brent tells Stryker all about how it came together. Frank and Stryker discuss playing The Troubadour, Frank at one point thought The Troubadour was his kryptonite. The guys also talk about recording the L.S. Dunes album and Frank getting severely injured falling off a ladder that could have been way worse than it actually was (and it already was bad)

The guys talk about how playing music with friends is not always easy. 

Frank shares how well bands like Underoath treated My Chemical Romance when they were a younger band.  He also gives love to Face to Face and Green Day. 

Frank tells Stryker how the My Chemical Romance song Foundations of Decay" came to be.

Ted Stryker welcomes the incredibly talented Pete Wentz from Fall Out Boy to Tuna on Toast!

Fall Out Boy release their new album "So Much (for) Stardust on March 24th, 2023.  As we sit here today (March 2), the band has the number one song in the country with "Love From the Other Side".  Their very first number 1!!  The guys discuss what was the inspiration for the song...Pete also explains why not going back to the well of what Fall Out Boy created 15-20 years ago was so important when making the new album.  He did not want a retread.

Pete talks about all the rejection letters FOB received from record labels all those years ago before the release of "Take This to Your Grave".  Pete recalls a show in Wisconsin when his current manager Bob McLynn was at that show and saw that rawness and spark!  

Pete tells the story of how he (Pete) signed Panic! At the Disco and the messages he received from Ryan Ross and Brendon Urie.

Pete mentions the "magic" that Turnstile has as well has Lana Del Rey and Lorde!

Stryker and Pete talk about how Tim McIlrath from Rise Against is like his brother and that they were in many bands together growing up.

Ted Stryker welcomes guitarist, songwriter, and overall good dude, Josh Klinghoffer to the Tuna on Toast Studio. Pluralone, Josh's band, just released another album titled This is the Show. 

Josh talks to Stryker about growing up in the Valley (Los Angeles) and listening to Morrissey, Depeche Mode, Guns N' Roses, AC/DC and Motley Crue. Josh tells Stryker how his Mom first signed him up for drums, not guitar. He started having friends (a full band) come over at an early age. At 15 Josh decided to pick up the guitar and learned to play without taking lessons.

Josh and Stryker talk about how he is normally the youngest in the groups he plays with. Josh mentions the great Bob Forrest, the band Bicycle Thief and first meeting Bob. Josh tells Stryker about the "bloody battle" he had with his parents about dropping out of school. 

Josh's new album is called "This is the Show"! His band is Pluralone. The album was born during the pandemic. Clint Walsh (Dot Hacker) and Josh worked together and found great harmony (both life and musically).

Josh also tells Stryker about first meeting Eddie Vedder and working on the album Earthling. Josh talks to Stryker about joining the Red Hot Chili Peppers at 30 years old and spending all of his 30's with them.

The guys also discuss Pluralone opening for Pearl Jam and also playing guitar with Pearl Jam during their set. Josh tells Stryker about his growth as a person and a musician.

Stryker has an idea for Josh to get coffee with Ilan Rubin from Nine Inch Nails and make some songs😊 Stryker asks Josh how he feels TODAY about not being a member of the Red Hot Chili Peppers anymore. 

Josh and Stryker also talk about the work Josh and Chad Smith did with Morrissey! Josh says that Morrissey said it's his favorite album while it has not seen the light of day. The album is complete. Josh hopes the Morrissy album is released sooner than later!

Taylor tells Stryker about wanting to start bands in high school that sounded like Janes Addiction.  He and Stryker talk about the band Sylvia.

Taylor also believes that there is another Kurt Cobain or Jimi Hendrix out there! He also believes Kendrick Lamar is a superstar!!

Stryker mentions that it's Taylors 25th anniversary in the Foo Fighters (2017)

Taylor Hawkins discusses the pressures...or lack there of early on in the band and how Dave Grohl believes in the notion of a band.

Taylor says the Foo Fighters were picked more based on personality than musical chops and how Taylor has learned from Dave while in the band.

In this episode, Ted Stryker welcomes the creative force that is known as Mod Sun to the Tuna on Toast Podcast Studio (aka Stryker's second bedroom)

As Stryker says at the top, Mod Sun is a talented and prolific writer, performer, producer, musician, director and singer. The episode begins with Mod telling Stryker that they actually met 10 years ago when Mod was working with Cisco Adler out in Malibu! Mod Sun talks to Stryker about why he left his previous band many years ago which he was the drummer in...The band was called Four Letter Lie. They were a really good band! That was the time he became who we know as Mod Sun.

Stryker asks Mod Sun about his childhood growing up on a farm in Minnesota, raised by his Mom and sister. Mod mentions his Dad as being totally wild but someone who was also full of charisma.

The guys talk about Mod's documentary titled "Remember Me Just Like This" as well as the fact that Mod has been invested in the type of music he is making today and the scene, since he was 13 years old! Mod tells Stryker that it wasn't until working with John Feldman that he felt a feeling of "redemption". John was the first to tell Mod that he was good , that he was special, that he was full of talent!

Jerry Heller was a music manager, music agent and a business man.

In this Tuna on Toast episode, Ted Stryker asks Jerry about is career before his NWA and Eazy-E days.  Jerry worked with bands like The Standells, Elton John and Pink Floyd just name a few.  Jerry also names the one artists that rubbed him the wrong way! 

Jerry goes into detail about the circumstances that led to Jerry meeting Eric Wright AKA Eazy-E.  Jerry and Stryker talk about JJ Fad, the song Supersonic, The L.A. Dream Team, Rudy Pardee, the great radio station KDAY and the amazing personalities/DJ's on KDAY.  Jerry mentions guys like Juilo G, Tony G and Greg Mack!

The guys talk about the new album called Our Bande Apart and the process of how it was recorded here in Los Angeles. Stephan and Stryker discuss the Third Eye Blind documentary which is available on youtube called "How We Hold Each Other Right Now".

Stephan tells Stryker that his mindset has changed, he doesn't care about metrics, streams, radio play or Grammy's and as a result, he's made much more music! Stephan also shared that he had another full album ready just as the pandemic hit, but the songs didn't feel right to release which is what lead lead them to the very honest and imperfect album.. Our Bande Apart. Stephan explains what an imperfect album means.

Stephan tells a beautiful story about knitting himself back together from the traumatized 6 year old boy that he was. Stephan brings up the saying....Comparison is the enemy of joy. The guys also discuss tension in the recording studio. Stephan tells Stryker that yes, absolutely that is important in the process. Stephan recounts a great story about producing Vanessa Carlton while Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham were working in a different studio, Stephan walked right in and asked to borrow them for a song!

Stephan says to Stryker that Third Eye Blind is an indie rock band who are saddled with a lot of hits, he also tells Stryker about his love for Rancid and The Interruptors. It was just a few years back that they all met at a show....The KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas in Los Angeles.

Stephan talks to Stryker about his love of playing drums from a very young age and being a professional musician by the time he was 17. Stryker learns that Stephan went to Cal Berkeley for college and actually had a great time!

The guys then chat about getting a record deal, and why in the 90's it was so important to have a deal, that entire experience led to the writing and recording of the song "Graduate".

Stephan reveals that after the chat he's going to rehearsal and the guys are already making a new Third Eye Blind album, Stephan is not even close to slowing down and living off previous success.

In this episode Ted Stryker welcomes punk rock legend Lars Frederiksen to the show. Stryker and Lars discuss Rancid, Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards, U.K. Subs, and of course his new solo project "To Victory" and a whole lot more!

Lars talks about his last two non music jobs he had before he joined Rancid full time, and the day when Tim Armstrong and Matt Freeman came to his work to ask how much money he needed to leave his current job. Lars discusses his childhood which includes how his Mom would take in punk rockers....she would let disenfranchised youths stay at their place and feed them..including Social Distortion way back in 1982. 

Stryker and Lars discuss his brand new project called "To Victory". Lars goes into detail on why he chose these songs for the EP and why he covered the KISS track called "Coming Home". Lars also reveals there will be 4 more EP's that will include original Lars Frederiksen music!

Lars and Stryker talk about Brett Gurewitz and what he has meant to Rancid and to Lars both professionally and personally. Lars discusses achieving a few bucket list items including playing the Oakland Coliseum, Saturday Night Live, and playing Madison Square Garden.

Ted Stryker welcomes to Tuna on Toast, one of the greatest frontman and songwriters of all time, Dave Gahan.

The episodes begins with Stryker telling the story of how this interview almost never happened as a result of Stryker not having his glasses on and misreading an email.

When Dave joins the episode, he reveals to Stryker that he loves Seinfeld and watched and watches quite often when he's not on the road (Depeche Mode or Soulsavers).

Dave reveals why he chose the 12 songs on the Imposter album to cover and the pressure to do the original artists justice.  Dave talks about Mark Lanegan's reaction in particular.

This episode starts with Stryker telling the story of the night he picked up Woody Harrrelson hitchhiking!  Tom Delonge joins Stryker as they discuss Angels & Airwaves and how the new album LIFEFORMS came together...Tom opens about about operating on the fringe for such a long time and the public questioning all is professional moves, from his departure from Blink 182 to "chasing aliens" to working with the US Government.   In this interview Tom also discusses with Stryker his contract with the government in regards to a craft of unknown origin.  Tom also talks about how Blink 182 got their record deal, the non-stop work cycle Blink 182 was on and how that affected his personal and professional life.  Tom opens up about his current relationship with Mark Hoppus, and how Mark's incredibly sad cancer diagnosis helped their friendship (episode was recorded just before Mark announced he was cancer free).  Tom also tells a hilarious story of the time he approached an employee at Christopher Nolan's company Syncopy Films followed by his crazy encounter with Chris Nolan himself. The episode closes with a story about what happened when Blink 182's record company came to listen to the album Dude Ranch for the first time, and, how Tom deals with critics today.

In this Tom Morello interview, they also discuss his time at Harvard, his job as a juggler in The Renaissance Fair, his first rock star sighting in Los Angeles, and, the time when Tom was in his band Lock Up, he dressed up as Dave Navarro from Janes Addiction and actually played as Janes to fool the crowd, In addition, Tom talks about the ONE game show he WOULD host! He also describes his van ride with Rick Rubin to see Chris Cornell and how many shows Rage Against the Machine played before they got their record deal.
