In this festive and thought-provoking episode of Back on the Broomstick, Laylla and Chelle unwrap "The Good, the Bad, and a Yule Ghost Story" to bring a mix of holiday cheer, real-world reflections, and spooky seasonal vibes to your listening ears.
First, the good! The witches are over the moon to share their delight at receiving heartfelt Yule cards from listeners at their new post office box. Your warm words and magical blessings have filled them with seasonal gratitude and the joy of connection. Then, the bad: they dive into two troubling stories of religious discrimination involving witches, sparking a candid discussion about the challenges faced by modern practitioners and the resilience of the magical community in the face of prejudice.
Finally, we end with a hauntingly beautiful Yule ghost story straight from Massachusetts. A chilling Lady in White legend, who wanders the Winter Solstice night with an air of mystery and a connection to the season’s darker, quieter magic.
So grab a warm drink, light the Yule log, and settle in as Laylla and Chelle take you through an episode filled with joy, justice, and just the right amount of ghostly wonder. Blessed Winter Solstice and happy Yule!
The invocation from HP Amy Hardy-McAdams at the city council meeting:
As a Priestess of the Goddess, I invoke the Gorgonaea, champions of equality and sacred rage. I call to Medusa, monstrous hero of the oppressed and abused. I open the Eye of Medusa, the stare that petrifies injustice.
I call upon the serpent that rises from this land to face the Stars, the movement of wisdom unbound.
May these leaders find within themselves the Embodied Divine, the sacred essence of the spark of the Universe and the breath of the Awen.
Place in the hands of these leaders the sacred work of protecting the sovereignty and autonomy of all our people.
Gorgon Goddess, make them ready and willing to be champions for all in this city, not just those in power.
Shine a light for them, that they may walk the path of justice, protected and prepared, illuminating the darkness.
Endow them with the fire of courage, the waters of compassion, the air of truth, and the strength of the earth itself.
As Above, so below.
As within, so without.
As the universe, so the soul.
May there be peace among you all.
And so it is.

The witches discuss how practicing gratitude can shift your energy, enhance your spellwork, and create a peaceful atmosphere at home during what can often be a stressful time.

They’ll explore how Pamela’s vision transformed tarot into a visual language that continues to inspire modern witchcraft and divination.
Tune in as they celebrate this powerful ancestress and unsung hero of tarot, uncovering the artistry, spirit, and intuition she brought to her craft—and why she deserves a place of honor in the hearts of all who read the cards. Get ready to light some candles and clutch your crystals, because this week on Back on the Broomstick, Chelle and Laylla are sharing one of their most unforgettable—and unnerving—paranormal experiences; the time they recorded a Ouija board session in a notorious haunted house, an encounter so chilling it made Chelle swear off ever stepping foot in the place again.
Our witchy hosts then take you on a journey through the fascinating history of spirit communication, tracing séances from Victorian parlors to modern-day living rooms. You’ll discover the surprising origins of the Ouija board, which began as a simple parlor game but evolved into one of the most feared and misunderstood tools in paranormal investigation.
The episode tackles the age-old debate: are Ouija boards truly portals for demonic energy, or have they been unfairly demonized by pop culture? Chelle and Laylla weave together historical accounts, personal experiences, and spiritual insights. They’ll also share their own hard-earned tips for safe spirit communication (pro tip: maybe don’t start off with questions like “Is anyone evil here?”). Their discussion expands into more ghostly encounters from their personal vaults and the various ways spirits may attempt to connect with the living, sharing touching stories of how departed loved ones have sent signs to their families.
Whether you’re a skeptic or a true believer, this episode is packed with eerie insights, nervous laughter, and magical advice that will have you looking over your shoulder—and maybe reaching for your own spirit board (with proper precautions, of course!). Send us your ghost stories, because the spirit world loves an audience, and we’re here for it!

It's almost Samhain! The spooky season is the perfect time to cuddle up with a good witchy movie. Laylla and Chelle talk about some of our favorite Halloween classics to uncover the real magic behind the Hollywood spells. With blankets wrapped tight, hot tea in hand, and snacks aplenty, our witches have put in the *tough* work of rewatching beloved witchy flicks to answer the burning question: Is there real magic in these movies, or is Hollywood just spinning broomsticks for cash? And is there any truth to one of these movies being cursed by a real life witch?
From the sisterhood of "Practical Magic" to the teenage angst in "The Craft," and the delightful camp of "Hocus Pocus," these films have become staples of the spooky season; but just how much of the spellwork is authentic? And hold on to your broomsticks because there's a new witch in town—Disney's "Agatha All Along." Is this modern addition to the witchy canon casting actual spells or just riding the wave of witchy trends?
In this episode, Laylla and Chelle uncover some true witchcraft secrets hidden in their favorite spooky films. From creepy sounding code names for herbs to real-life witchy practices making an appearance on the big screen. You might be surprised to learn just how many genuine magical elements snuck their way into these films, and that even some of the dialogue contains actual spells!
If you've ever wondered whether Hollywood's witches are stirring up more than just special effects, tune in as our real witches break down the enchantments, the truths, and the tricks behind these Halloween favorites. It's a cauldron of movie magic, myth, and a sprinkle of mayhem as we celebrate the witchiest time of the year!
Expect some laughs, a few "ah-ha" moments, and possibly a strong urge to rewatch these classics with fresh eyes and a new appreciation for the witchcraft hidden beneath the cinematic spells!

OUR MOTHER by Christian Ortiz Velarde
Our Mother, who art in heaven and on earth and everywhere,
Blessed be your beauty and your abundance.
Bring to our hearts the key that opens the portal of love.
Let each being be in conscious freedom with other beings,
And that the exercise of sacred jubilation be part of our existence,
May we welcome you at our table to share the holy food of your fertile womb.
Our Mother, who art in heaven and on earth and everywhere,
May you guide our steps,
May the rhythm of our hearts be one with the heart of the earth,
And so worship his blessed song.
May the stars guide us in the dark nights.
And the sun and moon embrace our bodies.
Oh Great Spirit.
Oh Great Mother.
Oh HOLY WOMAN.
Dedicated to:
Dora Velarde (My Mother/Source/Body/Soul), with love, light and gratitude.

As the Autumn Equinox falls further behind us and the veil between worlds thins, the spooky season is in full swing! Join your favorite witchy podcast hosts, Chelle and Laylla, for a deliciously dark snack of a mini episode that's sure to get you in the Samhain spirit.
This week, the dynamic duo have, for your delectation, a dramatic reading of the haunting piece "Never Again the Burning" by the one and only Gale Perrigo Hamby. (we know her! we know her!) This powerful piece is a tribute to the innocent people killed due to ignorance, religious intolerance, and corruption.
So put on your best witchy comfy clothes, grab a mulled cider and a pumpkin spice cinnamon roll, and get ready for a heart wrenching, soul crushing experience. Laylla and Chelle are conjuring up all the spooky vibes you need to part the veil and usher in the final harvest.
As the poem proclaims, "Never again the burning" - and these two witches intend to make sure of it.

In this captivating episode of "Back on the Broomstick," hosts Laylla and Chelle delve deep into the enigmatic Rule of Three, sometimes called the Threefold Law or the Law of Returns. Have you ever been curious about the true essence of this witchy principle, its origins, and its role in contemporary witchcraft? The witches have it covered.
They unravel the threads of the Rule of Three, a fundamental concept in the craft that suggests whatever energy a witch puts out into the world, be it good or bad, returns to them threefold. But where did this idea start? Is it an age-old wisdom or a modern invention? From its first mention in Gerald Gardner's writings to its widespread acceptance (and sometimes skepticism) in contemporary witchcraft, we trace the journey of this intriguing rule.
And it's not just about history and concepts! Laylla reflects on the unexpected results of her hot foot spells, questioning if the Rule of Three is weaving its enigmatic influence. Meanwhile, Chelle shares her own spellbinding tales, including that time she hexed her exes - did the universe serve her a triple slice of cosmic justice?
Together, we debate how applicable the Rule of Three is to the life of a modern witch. Is it a literal law, a useful guideline, or perhaps a bit of both? Does the universal "sky daddy" really keep score, or are we witches solely responsible for our magical actions and their repercussions?
This episode offers a lively, insightful, and sometimes humorous look at one of witchcraft's most talked-about principles.

Laylla and Chelle dive into the magical aspect of New Year's resolutions. This episode is a magical blend of history, skepticism, and practical witchcraft as the hosts explore the origins and effectiveness of these yearly promises.
From ancient Babylonian traditions to the Roman god Janus, our hosts reveal how these resolutions have evolved from spiritual promises to modern self-improvement goals.
But do these resolutions really work? Chelle expresses her skepticism, labeling them as wishful thinking and empty dreams without action. Laylla, on the other hand, delves into the magical aspect, discussing how resolutions can be powerful tools for manifestation if combined with both magical and mundane efforts.
The conversation takes a turn as they discuss the concept of manifestation. They dissect popular beliefs, like those presented in "The Secret", and contrast them with the real, grounded practices of manifestation that require more than just positive thinking. They emphasize the need for aligning one's energy and intentions with actionable steps to turn resolutions from mere wishes into reality.
Whether you're a resolution skeptic or a firm believer in the power of intention, Laylla and Chelle offer insightful tips on how to approach your New Year's resolutions with a balanced blend of magic and practicality. Tune in to episode 44 for an enlightening discussion that might just change the way you view and approach your resolutions this year.

Laylla has always been drawn to collecting found objects imbued with energy, treasuring ancestor trinkets, and has a deep-rooted love for bones and their magical connections. Hear her excitement as she describes how bone throwing resonated with her spirit, offering a rich, tactile experience that deeply connected her to her craft. And find out how Dolly Parton is connected to this practice that has it's roots in American Folk practices, Hoodoo, and cultures around the world and throughout history.

Welcome to the Solarium! Join hosts Chelle and Laylla in their enchanting herbal haven, brimming with aromatic teas, mystical smoking blends, beloved books, crystals, divination tools, and much more. In this episode, they delve into the realm of classic witchcraft literature, focusing on four influential books published before 1990. So, grab your coziest mug of tea, grab a joint or some calming incense, and step into The Solarium!
First off the witches brew a mug of tea from Black Cat Curiosity Shoppe, one of Chelle's favorite places to grab hand crafted tea blends in Salem. And they both roll up a little cannabis and a soothing blend of herbs to make sure their hangout sesh has a relaxing vibe.
Once the cares of the world melt away, Chelle opens up about Scott Cunningham's "Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs", and why its a publication she deems essential for every herb witch's collection. She explains why Laurie Cabot's "The Power of the Witch," is the one she always recommends to new witchlings and why she will always keep a copy in her library.
Meanwhile, Laylla revisits the magical archives with Margot Adler's "Drawing Down the Moon" and Starhawk's "The Spiral Dance." The duo discusses how these pioneering works have sculpted the landscape of modern witchcraft, noting that despite some initial shortcomings in research and cultural sensitivity, the authors have attempted to fix these problems with later editions. Despite the original issues, these books still contain valuable history and information that would benefit today's witches.
Laylla and Chelle are also excited to announce their participation in the upcoming Sacred Space Conference, where they'll be conducting workshops alongside esteemed figures in the witchcraft and pagan spheres. Discover the fantastic lineup of workshops and learn how to register at the Sacred Space Foundation.
We can't wait to share our thoughts on these magical reads and our upcoming adventures with you! Tune in for a blend of herbal enjoyment, literary discussion, and a sprinkle of excitement for the upcoming pagan festival season!
