Welcome back for another episode of the Booked on Fantasy Podcast! This episode is a very special episode for us because it marks the beginning of our official Empyrean series coverage!
This is a bonus episode because a very exciting excerpt from the soon to be released sequel to Iron Flame, Onyx Storm, by Rebecca Yarros was dropped in Cosmopolitan Magazine's Winter 2024 edition. You can access the magazine and excerpt titled, "Hotter than Dragonfire," through Kindle Unlimited, or the Libby app. If you are unable to access it that way here is a link: "HOTTER THAN DRAGONFIRE"
This episode will follow a slightly altered format because it is only an excerpt, but it will include a brief recap of the end of Iron Flame, an in depth analysis of key events, and our favorite moments from this excerpt.
Normally we are a spoiler free podcast, but Lorraine and I have both read Fourth Wing and Iron Flame and this episode WILL include spoilers for the entire series.

Her time in the desert leads to new friendships, stealing a very expensive horse, and a tragic betrayal. Despite this, Celaena leaves the Silent Assassins feeling hopeful that although things have changed, maybe, just maybe they might be for the better.

Welcome back to the Booked on Fantasy Podcast! Today we are covering House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 7. Do the Gods really favor Rhaenyra? She certainly seems to think so as she throws all the Targaryen low born into a diabolical dragon bonding experience. The scene was awful, but effective, since both Vermithor and Silverwing successfully bond new riders. Meanwhile Daemon finally makes progress in the Riverlands - mostly because of a young and bold Oscar Tully who agrees to align with him as long as he “serves justice.”
As usual with our episodes, you can expect a full summary with “The State of the Realm”, key insights and analyses in the “Small Council,” and the continuation of Team Black vs. Team Green in the “Fantasy Court of Law!” The Fantasy Court of Law continues to review the gathered evidence to determine which team has a stronger claim to the Iron Throne.

While there, she meets a young healer named Yrene. Itching to burn off some pent up anger, Celaena finds herself looking for trouble. But fear not, we know our favorite assassin, deep down is a softy, and she leaves the crappy little town on a good note.

Welcome back to the Booked on Fantasy Podcast! Today we are covering House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 6. Team Black has made some major moves as stage 1 and 2 of their city chaos plan to win the small folk back was successfully launched. Seasmoke, that sneaky boy, decided no one would tell him who his rider is, so he picks his very own secret Velaryon - sorry Corlys, your secret is definitely out now! Last but not least, Rhaenyra has found new love. We certainly didn’t see that coming for this season’s bingo card!

Welcome back to the Booked On Fantasy Podcast! Today we are wrapping up Crown of Midnight. There was so much information that was confirmed for us regarding Celaena’s identity and the king’s rendezvous' in the Ferian Gap. The plans for Celaena’s next mission are set in motion as she sets sail for Wendlyn, leaving Chaol and Dorian to figure out their next steps without her in Adarlan.
Because it is our last episode for Crown of Midnight, we will first carry on as usual with our episode deep dive, which includes: the “Book Report” for chapter summaries, an in depth analysis of key events, and our favorite moments from today’s chapters. Welcome back to the Booked on Fantasy Podcast! Today we are covering House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 4. I have no words to describe the tragedy of this episode. Rhaenys behaved as is befitting of a true queen and champion of the realm with her final ride at Rook’s Rest. We will forever stan her for her sacrifice for team black! Meanwhile, Daemon continues his ghost tours at Harrenhal (with little progress), and the fragile family dynamic of Team Green really begins to fracture as the dragon wars begin.

Welcome back to the Booked On Fantasy Podcast! We are almost to the end of Crown of Midnight, and when we say we were STUNNED by the turn of events - you really should’ve seen our faces. Dorian and Celaena continue to rekindle their friendship through a terrifying escape from some hybrid creature in the catacombs (seems like the king has been creating quite the monstrosities down there). Celaena finally solves part of the riddle when she uncovers an anagram. She believes she’s found a wyrdkey, but to our dismay, the king beat her to it. Last but not least, an attempt to contact Nehemia goes horribly wrong, and Celaena accidentally summons an ominous creature from the depths of the void.

Welcome back to the Booked on Fantasy Podcast! Today we are covering House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 3. What another riveting episode with the jumpscare of the summer! I think we can all agree that we’ve seen quite enough of Aemond Targaryen. On a more serious note, Rhaenyra makes her final attempt to reconcile the past with Alicent, but in the words of Ser Simon Strong, “sin begets sin begets sin,” and it is now too late to stop a war with dragons.

Welcome back to “Keeping Up With The Targaryens!” Today’s episode was full of drama, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. The family comes together for a funeral to honor Lady Laena, but don’t worry, we caught all those loaded looks too! As Rhaenyra and Daemon finally come together (as more than family), little Aemond makes a bold move for Vhagar - which costs him an eye. A knife fight ensues. In the aftermath Alicent begs for revenge on behalf of her son, but Viserys being Viserys, simply commands everyone to just get along! The episode ends with Laenor’s great escape - which we hope, brings him the freedom he’s always wanted.

Cheers! We’ve reached the end of Throne of Glass! This book marked the end of many things: the end of a love triangle, the end of evil Cain, and the end of this bizarre champions tournament. So, now it’s time to kick back and relax…PSYCHE!
The mountain of information we downloaded in these final chapters was enough to keep us up for days - we learn more about wyrdmarks, that Nehemia has been working OT on behalf of the glass castle, and that our mysterious King is much more involved than he alludes.

It’s a glorious day when royal babies are born…or is it?? The Targaryen line of succession increases, and the family tension has festered to a palpable crescendo as rumors swirl about the validity of Rhaenyra’s children. Meanwhile, our shadow daddy Daemon lays low in Pentos with his family - but no one is safe from tragedy in this show, and Daemon is no exception. It’s wedding day in King’s Landing, and in true Game of Thrones fashion, it’s a gruesome and memorable night indeed!
