Welcome BACK to another exciting episode of Ground Up with Natalee!
In this episode, I sit down with the legendary Los Angeles-based casting director, Lisa London, whose incredible work includes casting the iconic hit show Hannah Montana, along with numerous other TV shows and films that have shaped pop culture.
Lisa opens up about the realities of casting—from the often misunderstood casting process to what it actually takes to book a role in today’s industry. We dive into key questions like:
What are the biggest misconceptions actors have about casting?
Who really hires a casting director, and how many submissions do they get per role?
Do you need an agent or manager to even be considered for auditions?
Do casting directors really only watch the first few seconds of a tape?
Is networking crucial for actors, and how does it influence casting decisions?
If a casting director doesn’t like an audition, is it game over for that actor?
If you're an actor, an aspiring casting director, or just curious about how actors land roles in TV and film, this episode will give you unfiltered insight into what happens behind the scenes. Lisa shares invaluable tips that could transform the way you approach your next audition—and might just be the key to booking your dream role.
Tune in to learn what really sets actors apart in auditions, what to avoid at all costs, and the secrets to making a lasting impression in the room (or on tape).

A Complete Commercial Acting Workshop!
When Natalee first moved to LA at 20 years old to pursue acting she knew she had to figure out how to financially support herself. And let's be real...being a hostess at a steak house wasn't cutting it. She was lucky enough to find commercial acting pretty early on in her career. Her first big booking was Farmer's Insurance when she was 21 years old and she hasn't stopped auditioning since.
In this Complete Commercial Acting Workshop Natalee shares everything you need to know from the Ground Up on how to get started into commercial acting. How to get an agent and a manager. What kind of headshots you need, do you need a reel? what should you resume look like? Pitch email examples. The list goes on. Looking for ways to make extra money as an actor? This could be a great avenue for you. You're not going to want to miss this episode on commercial acting.
Just because she has been on hundreds of commercial auditions it doesn't mean she's had the luxury to get direct bookings. She still auditions to this day. The only thing that has changed over the years is confidence. The more you practice the better you get and as we know this industry is a numbers game! Keep at it!

In this podcast episode, we dive into the world of acting and explore the challenges that actors face when it comes to finding inspiration, staying focused, and avoiding the trap of comparison to others. Natalee discusses how finding purpose outside of acting can actually benefit an actor's career and well-being. She shares habits she has cultivated in regard to staying inspired for acting and tips to stay motivated.
It's important for actors to understand that they can't sit around waiting for opportunities to come their way. They must make things happen for themselves by taking control of their own circumstances. Natalee shares practical tips and strategies on how to cultivate inspiration and motivation within yourself, rather than relying on external factors.
She also delves into the topic of comparison and why it can be detrimental to an actor's journey. She discusses how comparing yourself to others can steal your joy, limit your potential, and ultimately lead to frustration and burnout. Instead, we encourage actors to focus on their own unique strengths and talents, and to measure their success by their own personal growth and progress. This will help you stay ahead believe it or not!
