We're back from Malmö and ready to digest everything that went down at Eurovision 2024. In this episode, Conor and Lou are reunited to chat about the chaos that was Eurovision 2024.
Back in January, Ireland voted to send Bambie Thug to Malmö with their song, "Doomsday Blue". Despite facing many obstacles from home and abroad, Bambie Thug did the unthinkable at the contest. Not only did they break Ireland's non-qualification streak, they brought us back into the Top 10! Bambie achieved Ireland's best result at Eurovision in 24 years - finishing in 6th place with 278 points. We'll hear from some of the Irish delegation following this result including Michael Kealy and Bambie themselves.
Switzerland took home the trophy on Saturday night with Nemo and "The Code". Finishing 1st with the jury and 5th in the televote, Nemo received a total of 591 points. This is Switzerland's third win. We'll share our thoughts on Nemo's historic win as the first non-binary representative to win Eurovision.
Plus, it's safe to say Eurovision 2024 was chaotic. We'll chat about The Netherlands disqualification, the double-standards set by the EBU, and what needs to happen in the future to safeguard Eurovision.

On April 30th 1994, the Eurovision Song Contest came to Ireland for the fifth time following back-to-back wins. Today, we're celebrating 30 years since Dublin hosted an iconic edition of the contest which saw Paul Harrington and Charlie McGettigan complete the hat trick for Ireland, the iconic interval act performance and birth of Riverdance, and ultimately Ireland's sixth win.
To help us celebrate, we're delighted to be joined by three iconic figures from the 1994 contest. To start, we chat the one of our hosts from the evening - Cynthia Ní Mhurchú. Alongside the late Gerry Ryan, Cynthia guiding over 300 million viewers through the extravaganza on the night - including introducing Riverdance to the world.
Of course, we could not celebrate the 1994 contest without speaking to the winners. It is an honour to speak with the rock 'n' roll kids themselves, Paul Harrington & Charlie McGettigan. Paul & Charlie share how they came together to perform "Rock 'n' Roll Kids" on the Eurovision stage, share funny stories from their travels across Europe, and how the song remains as popular as ever.

In this episode of Éirevision, Conor and Lou react to the running-order for both semi-finals.
On March 26th, SVT and the EBU revealed the running-order for both semi-finals. As we know, this year will see the Big 5 + Sweden perform their songs in full amongst their fellow competitors in the semis. If you did not know, producers determine the running-order with staging plans, colours, and style all taken into consideration. During the allocation draw in January, each country was drawn into either the first or second half of the first or second semi-final. From this, producers determine the running-order!

On this episode of Éirevision, we're chatting about the final five songs to be added to the class of 2024! Greece, Portugal, Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan all revealed their entries for Eurovision 2024. Greece were one of the earliest country to reveal their artist for 2024. They internally selected Marina Satti back in October however, they are one of the last to reveal their song. "Zari", meaning "Dice" gives us traditional Greek rhythms alongside a fantastic vocal from Marina. Portugal's Festival da Canção 2024 was the final national final of the season. Iolanda took the crown with "Grito". The song translates to "Scream". Will Portugal's qualification streak continue? Georgia announced Nutsa as their representative in January. Now, she's coming to put out the fire with her song "Firefighter". The song uses 'firefighter' as metaphor for the fight against various negative aspects like wars, envy, and hate. Georgia haven't qualified for the final since 2015. Will their luck change this year? Armenia have decided to send LADANIVA and their song, "Jako". The song asserts the right to think freely and to be whoever you want to be. LADANIVA, comprised of Armenian vocalist Jaklin Baghdasaryan and French multi-instrumentalist Louis Thomas, bring a multicultural mix of ethnic sounds, unique experiences and authenticity. Azerbaijan were the final country to release their song. They have chosen FAHREE with the song, "Özünle Apar" which features Ilkin Dovlatov. On Saturday night, Sweden's Melodifestivalen came to an end as 12 artists battled it out for the chance to represent Sweden on home soil this May at Eurovision. Ultimately, last year's runners up Norwegian twins Marcus & Martinus took home the famous bird trophy with their song, "Unforgettable". Hear our thoughts on our weekend away, the show itself and the twins chances at Eurovision. Plus, we chatted to Dotter, Medina, Cazzi Opeia, and Lisa Ajax straight after the final!
On Monday, SVT announced some major changes coming to Eurovision 2024! First off, the Big 5 & Sweden will be performing LIVE in the Semi-Finals for the first time. They still automatically qualify however, the full three minute performance will be slotted in amongst the other competing countries in the semi-final.
SVT also announced that the voting lines during the grand-final will open before the first song is performed. This will be the first time since 2011 when voting lines will be open from the beginning of the show. For the rest of the world voters, they will be able to vote nearly 24 hours before the show itself as voting will open straight after the 2nd dress rehearsal of each show. What do we think of the changes? Only one way to find out!

On this episode of Éirevision, Conor and Lou share their thoughts on the latest entries revealed for Eurovision 2024. We've had so many songs released over the last ten days. Today, we're catching up as the United Kingdom's Olly Alexander releases his ESC song - "Dizzy". Australia, Iceland, and Serbia have also chosen their songs!
Back in December 2023, the BBC announced Olly Alexander as the UK representative. Of course, everyone will know Olly from his time as lead singer of Years and Years and his acting credentials such as It's a Sin. Longtime Eurovision fan Olly has decided to rep the UK with the song, "Dizzy" - a song written by himself together with Danny L. Harle.
Australia have been keeping their representative under lock and key. But not anymore! Australia Decides 2019 runners-up Electric Fields have been internally selected by SBS to head to Malmö with "One Milkali (One Blood)". The song is sung in English, Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara, which is an Aboriginal language of the Anangu peoples – one of the oldest living cultures on earth.
Serbia's Pesma za Evroviziju 24 concluded at the weekend. Despite many worthy songs competing, the trophy and honour of representing Serbia went to Teya Dora with "Ramonda".
Finally, Iceland's Söngvakeppnin 2024 came to an end with Hera Björk taking the crown. She previously represented Iceland at Eurovision in 2010 with "Je ne sais quoi". Unlike previous years, the winner of Söngvakeppnin will not represent Iceland at Eurovision. Instead, the broadcaster RÚV and the winning artist will decide together if they wish the participate at Eurovision 2024.

Back in September 2023, the Cypriot broadcaster announced Cypriot-Australian singer, dancer, and actress Silia Kapsis for Eurovision 2024. After months of anticipation, "Liar" was released to the public. Since 2015, Cyprus has qualified for the final seven times, and failed only once in 2022. Silia will be hoping to continue their success but will she be able to?
Finally, Friday saw Austria officially unveil techno-pop inspired song, "We Will Rave" by Kaleen. She has Eurovision experience too as at Eurovision 2018, Kaleen was the step-in singer during rehearsals for many countries. In 2021 and 2022 she took part in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest as creative director. She was even a stand-in during rehearsals for Ireland's very own, Sophie Lennon!

Of course, the headlines during the summer months all evolved around the state of RTÉ and its finances. We ask Kealy about its impact on Eurovision and if a standalone national final is on the cards in the future. The lack of a social media presence, exploding cakes, artists tweets, and what's to come in 2024 are just some of the other topics discussed! Be sure to sit back, relax, and enjoy!
