This week is Father Kieran’s Funeral Extravaganza! And all of New Orleans is invited! Cami attempts to grieve, but is yet again pulled into supernatural business by Marcel, Francesca, and her own nosiness. Mikael starts entering Klaus and Elijah’s dreams, because a true hater never rests. Monique makes a move to kill Hayley and her baby, which causes Hayley to make a quick trip to the Other Side, where she comes face to face with Mikael for the first time. All of this makes Klaus actually think about fatherhood, which of course makes him think about Marcel.

Elijah makes another trip to the bayou to confront Hayley about the wolf deal with Klaus, but gets side tracked when a suicide bomber rides in. Elijah and Jackson tend to the wounded, Oliver acts super weird, and Hayley goes to investigate the room suspect, Marcel. But Marcel has an entirely different bomb to drop on Hayley. Meanwhile, we finally get a real update on Kieran’s hex and it is not looking good. Luckily Cami has shocking idea that just might work. Josh and Klaus are there to support her, with Klaus trying just about anything to clear the hex. Kieran faces his biggest obstacle yet, but finds time to prepare Cami to carry on the O’Connell legacy, even though she (and us) do not know what that really means. Finally, all the factions and families prepare for more drama, or even war.

With the tenuous new treaty freshly signed, Genevieve suggests a party where the witches get gifts … ok! Marcel plots a revolution from his rug and lamp emporium, but is not prepared for the price he has to pay. Hayley joins in on Jackson and Oliver’s alliance with Klaus (which Klaus didn’t agree to by the way), but she still finds time to make eyes at Elijah. Davina slays with her bestie Josh by her side, who Klaus so generously pardons. Cami makes one last attempt to get any help at all with Kieran’s hex. Throughout it all, Genevieve has an all time bad day: situationship wants to dump her and cuts off her friend’s hands, coven wants her dead, and she can’t get her hands on Esther’s grimoire. But things look up when the ancestors decide there’s someone more important to kill than Genevieve: a baby.

In the aftermath of Rebekah's exit, Klaus returns to his favorite pastime, painting super depressing paintings. He also decides it is a good idea to hook up with Genevieve, which I think everyone else can agree is dumb. Davina faces the wrath of Monique, and gets support from Josh while she’s feeling alone. Meanwhile, Elijah takes over the leadership oh the quarter and works on brokering peace. Hayley of course insists on the werewolves being involved, which only ups the drama with all the other factions. To smooth tensions, Elijah throws a party with the vampires, werewolves, witches, and the new human leader, Francesca, who has a very distinctive flirty vibe. While Elijah makes progress, Klaus makes other negotiations and has a novel idea. Instead of having fun, Cami is still working on getting Kieran’s hex undone, with the help of pretty much no one. But at least Marcel keeps her company, and then some!

Klaus, Elijah, and Rebekah have been trapped in the cemetery to work out their problems this week, and the tensions are high! Marcel tries to help Rebekah out but ends up making bad deals and being banished. Davina settles back into the land of the living after a deeply traumatizing time dead. Finally, Rebekah leaves New Orleans???

Well, Rebekah’s secret is out and Klaus is MAD! Elijah enlists Cami to calm Klaus down, and of course Klaus takes that time to tell the story of Mikael’s arrival in 1919. We all get reminded of just how evil Mikael is through a true Guignol (new vocab alert!), and even Cami can’t stop Klaus’s hunger for revenge. Meanwhile, Rebekah and Marcel do not leave town and decide today is the day to bring Davina back, sure. Hayley’s kidnapping of Celeste appears to pay off, while Celeste somehow convinces herself she’s won the day. Elijah forms an unlikely alliance with Monique, but Celeste’s stupidity unites us all. Finally, after a long hard day, Elijah finds himself trapped in a cemetery where Klaus and Rebekah will have to face each other once and for all.

Rebekah and Klaus are held captive in a sanatorium as another resurrected witch, Genevieve, gets her turn to tell her story. And, uh …. It’s kinda fair that she’s pissed! Meanwhile, Elijah enlists Hayley and Marcel to solve a tattoo based riddle, which causes Marcel to come clean about 1919. We (along with Klaus) see Rebekah’s memories of 1919, where she worked as a nurse during the influenza epidemic, culminating in her betrayal. Celeste reveals her revenge plan which relies on a number of assumptions about the Mikalesons, but it remains to be seen how much of her fantasy will come true …

After the drama of last week, everyone is happy to be back at the compound to move forward. Davina is mad to be stuck there, but some dangerous symptoms appear which take precedence and overflow into the city of New Orleans. Hayley works for Elijah’s forgiveness while Sophie has a plan for her newly acquired bones. As natural disasters hit New Orleans, there is a new urgency to complete the harvest. Marcel fights for Davina, while the Originals use their evil mom the move the harvest forward. We finally appear to get an answer to the burning question: is the Harvest real? But with an appearance of new characters and a big reveal, maybe ancestral magic is winning out after all…

Happy Casket Girls Festival! Rebekah is feeling the girlboss spirit and uses it to start making some headway on alliances. Speaking of girlbosses, Davina successfully removes Klaus’s compulsion from Cami, leaving Cami pissed at Klaus AND Kieran. Klaus uses Tim to lure Davina back to the compound, where she shows off just how powerful she is, but then Klaus shows off just how easy it is to kill someone, even from a distance. Hayley goes behind Elijah’s back to help Sophie dig up his ex-girlfriend Celeste, but there seems to be something more going on with her…

Klaus got his empire, woohoo! Marcel is not happy but he is following his new king. Obviously, the transition in power is less than seamless, so Klaus tries to give his underlings a reward: a werewolf hunt. The very werewolves who are Hayley's family, of course, so Elijah and Rebekah have to spring to action. Luckily, they learn about another family connection! Meanwhile Klaus and Marcel manage the human faction, who is getting awfully bold and do pay for that hubris. Marcel makes substantial progress in regaining power, unfortunately Rebekah is left behind (again). Klaus ends with gleams of vulnerability and learning how to be a good person, Davina ends feeling betrayed, Elijah and Hayley end flirting, and Camille ends screaming!

Klaus finally gets his empire this week, though it’s not all happy in his life - he’s still feuding with his siblings, and his compelled therapist/stenographer Cami has started fighting back with verbal jabs and secret messages for her compelled self. Inspired by Tyler’s new information, Rebekah and Marcel attempt to put down Klaus for good, with a half-baked, misguided plan that causes an honestly pathetic battle. Elsewhere, Hayley comforts Elijah in the bayou while his werewolf bite causes hallucinations of Celeste, an ex-girlfriend whose death he blames on himself … wonder why that’s coming up. Finally, Hayley learns some information about her family, her birthmark, and the curse that ties them all together.

An old pal visits New Orleans, but he’s feeling a lot less like a pal with some mean choices. We do however finally get the backstory on one of the worst emasculations from TVD. As we go out once again to the bayou, Klaus handles his emotions, especially about Elijah and Hayley getting closer, as well as you can expect. These siblings really do be going through it! Meanwhile Rebekah is still pissed bringing her to Marcel. At least those two really match each others’ freak, but it seems that matched freak includes stupidity. Davina and Josh get a chance to queen out, while freeing Josh from his double agent status by promoting him to triple agent status. But at least he finally has someone other than the nightwalker to talk to! And speaking of talking, a certain someone blabs so Marcel (finally) learns about the Mikaelson bundle of joy.

Agnes is decides it’s time to try killing the Mikaelson baby for the second time, this time using an old-timey syringe called the needle of sorrows and taking advantage of Sophie’s linking spell. Elijah, meanwhile, has had it with the linking spell and enlists Davin to unlink Hayley (or, if you ask Davina, untie a knot). Elijah takes revenge on Agnes, and Klaus tries to take credit in front of Cami, who is not too pleased! But you know who is pleased? Rebekah and Marcel! They finally hook up! But this causes Marcel to ponder the meaning of apples - both metaphorical and literal. Finally, Marcel meets (and intimidates) Hayley.

Each of our originals is out and about this week, busy learning about the highly eventful time 4 months before they arrive. Elijah and Davina bond over her betrayal and his need to manipulate. Hayley, Rebekah, and Sophie adventure to the bayou, while Sophie tries to reign in her web of lies. And Klaus and Marcel stall each other, essentially just having a fun boys’ lunch. Once Elijah reunites with his siblings, they must figure out how to face the lies they have ben told thus far, but more importantly Hayley and Elijah need to look at each other sexily. Now that all of us have been clued in on the harvest, it is time to decide what, and who, we believe...

Davina is the titular girl in New Orleans this week as she convinces Marcel to let her out on the town for the annual Dauphine Street Music Festival, while he enlists Cami to babysit. The evening takes them to Davina’s high school sweetheart Tim, who is tortured by Klaus in a church with a very dark history. Meanwhile, Hayley visits a “doctor” in the bayou with a nefarious purpose - luckily, Slayley saves the day. Finally, we are starting to see the damage near-constant compulsion is doing to Cami, as we learn more about her tragic past.

You know we are really in The Originals now because we have our first fancy party this week! Klaus is working hard this week on a plan with many overlapping people that can only be described as flawless. That’s our king manipulator! Rebekah does her own manipulating, bringing Cami into the line of fire at the party. Cami does get quite a view of Marcel’s business it does not lead to positive conclusions. Sophie teams up with the Mikaelson team now that they have identified Marcel’s weapon for stopping magic, distracting Davina so they can locate Elijah. With magic flowing in the quarter, we get insight into Davina, Marcel, and Marcel’s henchmen. The plans are overall a success, but while Hayley is bored waiting for Elijah, she runs into a wolf and a witch, ending up with a clue of her own to slay-ly investigate.

Rebekah has finally arrived in New Orleans! She immediately starts beefing with Klaus, bonding with Hayley, and having sexual tension with her former beau Marcel - classic Rebekah! She even gets to meet the already iconic Davina. Meanwhile, we learn more about Klaus and Marcel’s demented father/son relationship. Plus, Marcel attempts to take Cami on a date, and Klaus adopts a new henchman - and he’s gay! Woo hoo!

We made it to The Originals, we are in New Orleans baby! Elijah opens up the series with a star turn, and his very own yellow top night. Klaus, meanwhile, is busy having a meltdown because his past protogé, Marcel, is now running the French Quarter. That would be enough to mess him up, but he finds out the New Orleans witches lured him because Hayley, who he hooked up with one time, is pregnant! Elijah is ready to fight for family while Klaus would rather fight for power, and it looks like neither of those fights will be easy. But don't worry, we still find time to discuss expectations, potential couples, and who received our first stan cards!

Well, the title says it all! Who can say if it's June, but it's a wedding episode. The wedding is planned quickly because it is first and foremost a trap for a certain enemy, but Steroline fans and wedding fans alike can rejoice that we largely avoid classic annoying TV wedding tropes! We see some struggles, but most people who need two suck it up are able to do so. Stephanie spends the whole episode believing a fully wrong theory, and Grace gets to experience the greatest of Steroline wins! With one more episode left, guesses abound and emotions are high because can you believe it's almost over??

This week, Cade seems hell bent on dying - he enters and immediately confirms the Salvatores have the only weapon that can kill him. Luckily, he has Elena’s coffin for leverage and is a psychic, so he should be able to outsmart them, right? …..right? Kai betrays both the Salvatores and Cade, but our heroes get payback by sending him to yet another prison world. But Kai gets the last laugh when he gets to reveal a familiar face is now running hell. Plus, ANOTHER (better) Steroline proposal - we’re so back, Steroline girls!!

With the return of an old (but fun!) enemy, Damon has his hands full trying to figure out key hell logistics while essentially babysitting. Alaric has returned to reunite Caroline with their kids, just kidding, he needs help because the siphons are, get this, siphoning! Caroline has another hard day in a string of long days, when a forgotten cur consequence rears its ugly head. With Cade in Mystic Falls, he decides it's time to put Damon and Stefan to work, but not before discovering a modern coffee shop and causing drama. Cade gives Damon a choice, which he simply refuses to make, while Stefan naturally jumps right into his job. The town celebrates "Time Capsule Day", which quickly falls apart due to, you know, the devil. Caroline hangs out at the grill with Matt and Dorian to keep the town safe, where Matt and Caroline beef about vampirism, and Dorian reveals an intriguing background. Caroline tries to have a day of wallowing while Bonnie faces a big decision, but both of their days are derailed when they discover a catatonic Damon in the living room. Thus begins an It’s A Wonderful Life-esque journey through Damon’s subconscious. Meanwhile, Stefan continues to be a menace by compelling Matt to ring the Maxwell Bell which causes literal hellfire. Okay! Though the bell does not finish ringing, it does ring enough for Cade to get a physical foothold in Mystic Falls, and his first order of business is to kill a couple characters who have overstayed their welcome.

It's Miss Mystic Falls time once again, and of course Damon is feeling the power of Elena. This pisses Stefan and Sybil right off, who team up to ruin Damon's humanity at the one event where that task is at its hardest. Let's not forget, Elena's got hands! Enzo and Bonnie have returned from Paris, with some new jewelry and plans for the future, and are the only ones to really slay the Miss Mystic Falls dance. Caroline enlists Matt and Dorian to get another piece of the bell from Seline, where Dorian again carries. Stefan continues to terrorize teenage pageant contestants, but Caroline stands up to Stefan despite having to deal with yet another new vampire. Damon stands up to Sybil by cooking her, and her revenge is actually (hopefully) a positive!

Stefan and Damon start their time on the road at an anger management group where they pick a victim (but lets be honest, it’s a little lazy). Stefan teeters on the edge of Ripper-hood as they find a much more interesting victim: an orphaned brunette doctor who they want to turn into a murderer, Tara. Meanwhile, Sybil has gotten a job as a history teacher to find a bell that Caroline finds in like 20 minutes. The bell, as it turns out, is notable for the Maxwell family - we get a history lesson from Dorian, who knows stuff now and is coming for Alaric’s job. Thankfully, this week Bonnie and Enzo are safe in Paris.

With 24 hours left before an eternity of servitude, Stefan decides hosting Christmas with Caroline is the perfect final day. Of course no one else lets them have that. Damon of course shows up with Sybil, much to the shock of Alaric and Matt who thought they finally killed him. Matt and his dad become the target of the latest empty threat, and Sybil continues to act dumb as can be. While Bonnie and Enzo hunt down the tuning fork, and Seline attempts to free the twins from her control, Stefan gets roped into an early meeting with Cade where he manages to negotiate the deal of a lifetime. While Steroline face the end of their happy era and Bonenzo head to Paris, Damon starts to get some feeling back and Stefan flips that all too familiar switch.

Seline has officially kidnapped Josie and Lizzie, and reveals her plan for them: she wants to offer them to Cade as replacements for her and Sybil! Ric and Caroline team up to find Seline and their kids, but it’s not without drama. Caroline breaks off her engagement, and Ric is a dick to pretty much everyone but especially Caroline. Stefan is told not to help, but still does, even joining with Damon to make Cade an extreme offer. Enzo is tortured by Sybil a la Dr. Whitmore, but luckily Bonnie is there to comfort him. Sybil finally gives us some backstory on how she became a siren, including - GASP - the reveal of a sister who we also happen to know. She draws parallels to the Salvatore brothers, and lays it on a little thick. Through this backstory, we are introduced to Cade, a psychic who is, for all intents and purposes, the Devil. We also meet Peter Maxwell - because we ran out of parents to kill, I guess. Finally. The mysterious wind returns to snatch up a character who we’re pretty sure is destined for hell.

Enzo and Damon remain under Sybil's control, but when the Bonnie secret comes out Sybil of course is jealous. Bonnie attempts to celebrate the Steroline engagement with Caroline, but of course fun and happiness never lasts long. With Sybil attempting psychological warfare on our girls and Damon dragging Stefan into a mystery issue with Enzo, we find ourselves in a mess including a another car crash, attempted murder, and a choice between Damon and Enzo. Stefan, Caroline, and Bonnie track missing persons and finally come upon a lead. Caroline deals with a threat to her nanny and custody with Ric, while Stefan and Bonnie head to a crime scene littered with clues left behind by Enzo. We did it, everyone - we made it to the end of season 7! As a reward, we get this pretty great finale. Bonnie continues to hunt everyone as they scramble to get into the Armory. With the help of Enzi making himself a target and some adorable little witch siphons, our team can get into the Armory to destroy the final Everlasting and (hopefully) avoid the mysterious evil entity. And yet, no one seems that urgent or concerned about the evil entity … huh. Stefan and Caroline finally work things out (and kick Ric to the curb). But it’s not all happy! Damon makes the selfless decision to go into the vault and stays there after mysteriously hearing Elena’s voice. Enzo follows, taking them on a new adventure, killing a lot of people for mysterious reasons.
We also debrief about a season we haven’t been particular fans of, and pitch how we would have fixed it. We also look ahead to season 8.

With Bonnie asleep as everyone waits to see how Rayna’s curse will affect her when she wakes, everyone teams up to make sure she does not wake up and immediately kill them. After a couple attempts to connect with her humanity fall flat, Damon does what he does best and inspires both anger and annoyance. But when it turns out the huntress marks can now come via dreams (ok…) Caroline gets to experience what Stefan did when he messed up, Stefan makes a very Damon move, and Enzo’s guitar finally betrays him. Our team - split into three duos - is trying to kill everyone on Rayna’s list, but the number is nonsensically large. Bonnie meanwhile shortens the time limit by injecting more of Rayna’s blood to stay protected from The Armory, make Enzo rush home to be with her. Damon makes the only smart call and enlists backup, despite the fact that it will make people angry. Matt explains his vendetta against Stefan, and Stefan reveals the truth - which is not a fun memory for Matt! Caroline and Alaric are kidnapped and discuss their relationship - if you can even call it that. After some wheeling and dealing, the vault is opened, and Alex is reunited with Yvette. We are time jumped! Well, mostly. Damon and Valerie team up to stop Rayna from killing Stefan, but are each bad at it in their own ways - Damon spent three years desiccated, and Valerie spent three years lying! Nora and Mary Louise are finally released from their captivity in The Armory to capture Enzo, but it doesn’t end well for them; they get Shane’d, and then something even worse happens. In the commotion, Enzo learns that Matt has some grudge against Stefan (and a dead girlfriend), and that Bonnie may have been poisoned. Bonnie attempts to protect Damon, which makes Enzo jealous and puts her in danger. At the end of the episode, the time jump seems nigh, as Damon soft-launches the idea of desiccating.

The theme of this week: nobody moved. We finally get a death we’ve been waiting for, but we can barely appreciate it because we’re so tired of the character. And speaking of tired, one of our main conflicts this week is a tired fight club trope - oh brother. Elsewhere, Bonnie, Nora, and Mary louise search for Rayna Cruz (the huntress we’ve been hearing so much about) but find a seemingly sweet old lady. Also there: Enzo, now working for a mysterious organization. Also, Caroline’s babies are siphons hungry for vampire magic, causing a teeny weeny desiccation problem. Finally, Matt tells Penny about vampires - I guess he needs a girlfriend too.

Stefan and Damon are both out of the Phoenix/hell stone so time to reintegrate into society. Society, unfortunately, includes Julian leading a biker gang in Mystic Falls and a whole bunch of hallucinations. Stefan is watching over Damon, even though his struggles have not ended, and Damon is just at the start of a bad day. Meanwhile, Caroline and Alaric have a baby shower with Bonnie, Tyler, and Matt, ending with Matt getting pulled over by a potential love interest, and Tyler getting roped into Damon drama. Alaric makes plans to get away from vampires, Stefan gets terrorized by Julian and that old safe, and even Elena can’t escape Damon’s self destructive streak.

This minisode breaks down our long-awaited trip to the motherland: Mystic Falls, VA aka Covington, GA. We share our favorite parts of the experience, what we saw, and, most importantly, the souvenirs we bought!

This week we get a close look at Damons personal hell, and dare we say the Phoenix Stone really went off! This personal hell has everything: a Groundhog Day-esque structure, the Civil War, fake escapes, the first time Damon killed someone, and of course, MOMMY ISSUES! Though we end the episode with him (seemingly) escaping, the bloodshed carries over from hell into the real world, and we get a pretty terrifying cliffhanger.

It’s Nora and Mary Louise’s anniversary! But not a big one, just 133. But big enough for Mary Louise to pop the question! To celebrate, Julian throws a logistically confusing party, while Lily, Valerie, Stefan, and Damon hatch a plan to kill Julian. It basically involves Valerie telling the truth and hoping the heretics believe her. Caroline picks the worst possible day to tell Stefan about her newfound babies, and he has one of the worst possible reactions. Elsewhere, Enzo has a day of highs and lows: he finally gets to kiss Lily (EW), but he also gets put back in a cage (by MATT).

We get a couple mommies this week but only one can be the dearest!Stefan and Damon try a new strategy in their plan to kill Julian, recruiting Lily. Seems like a bad plan at first, but turns out torture is effective. Meanwhile, Enzo tries his own plan to kill Julian, which is mostly just some juvenile silliness which also does not work. Finally, Caroline continues to be in denial that she has Ric’s babies inside her (us too girl!) but turns out that Gemini love for invisique starts young!

This week, our main event is basically if you ordered the Mikaelson ball off Shein, as Lily hosts a peace mixer for Julian, the characters we know, and a bunch of essentially hired extras. Stefan thinks it’s the perfect opportunity to kill Julian (to avenge his child that never was, Jacob), and Damon thinks they should wait a bit - and neither wants to compromise. Meanwhile, it’s highs and lows for Alaric as Fake Jo takes a turn for the worse, but his babies appear to be alive - in Caroline's womb! Lastly, the time jump has officially STOPPED being fun now that we know it involves an Alaric/Caroline engagement.

This episode starts with the best news we've had in weeks: Bonenzo confirmation! Unfortunately we get plenty of bullshit as Stefan and Damon spend the day with Valerie, and Stefan is decidedly NOT giving. Alaric watches over Jo while Bonnie aims to get some information from Oscar, but both of them soon learn they should not have trusted the Phoenix Stone. Lily finally hears from Valerie that Julian is evil, but why listen to reason when you can bring your boyfriend back from the dead? Finally, with a new reveal of just how rude Lily is, Damon decides her time for happiness is over and even Bonnie agrees.

It’s Halloween, and spooky activities abound: a haunted Mystic Falls Ghost Tour, Whitmore’s “Annual” Heaven and Hell Ball, and it’s Ric’s last day of paying off the dude who works at the morgue. As Nora and Mary Louise attempt a killing spree (but get distracted by their own drama), Damon enlists Ric and Bonnie to use the Phoenix Stone to bring back Oscar for his Elena-coffin hostage swap, after Valerie killed him. Oscar’s return brings violence but also a lot of solved problems, so they use the Phoenix Stone on their first-choice dead body: Jo. Lastly, we finally move Elena’s coffin somewhere else.

Damon, Ric, and Bonnie head down to Myrtle Beach to hunt down our last heretic, Oscar, to trade for Elena, and finally meet a heretic who is actually having fun! But that means bringing him back as leverage is more difficult than they anticipated. Oscar also reveals information about the Phoenix Stone, which Alaric decidedly did not destroy. Caroline remains held hostage at the Salvatore house, but now it is worse because she has to listen to Stefan and Valerie's "love" story straight from Valerie, who seems to have been obsessed ever since. Stefan meanwhile tells his mother about this hookup, and he of course took getting stood up personally. Valerie and Lily also reveal information about a mysterious member of their family, who certainly does not seem like a winner.

It’s a new day in the newly ghost town-ified Mystic Falls, and Stefan and Lily are both pissed at Damon for killing Malcolm - but he’s pretty cavalier about it until Elena’s coffin gets involved. Caroline is held captive by the heretics in the new Salvatore house, where she hangs out, gives fashion advice, and learns there may just be some history between Stefan and Valerie. Lily holds a funeral for Malcolm but doesn’t invite Enzo (who it turns out loves Lily as more than a mommy). The heretics sign the deed of the Salvatore house over to Matt, so naturally Bonnie has to stop his heart, clearly there’s no other possible solution. Finally, we learn more about this mysterious rock Alaric found - it’s called the Phoenix Stone, and it might bring Jo back or might be evil incarnate - who’s to say?

Season 7 kicks off and even though Elena is gone, the mood is high with the group in Mystic Falls and a trio in Europe! In Europe, Damon enjoys fun and drinking while hurting the mood by making a few too many jokes about Bonnie dying, while Alaric is sober for once with his own sad agenda. The mood continues to sour in Mystic Falls after an attempt to clear out the heretics goes wrong and they retaliate in a big way. To save the town, Stefan heroically negotiates a deal in which he gives away everything and lets the town fall into disrepair within 2 hours. As the town becomes "us vs them", Enzo finally picks a side and unfortunately it is the wrong one. We are facing a season with a time jump, multiple possible villains, and an empty town, but hey, at least we finally have Steroline!

Once again we have made it to a season finale, and this one is a doozy. We lose heroes and villains alike - from Kai to Jo to even our very own Elena Gilbert! Sure, there’s other plot points - Lily reuniting with her family of heretics, some super cute Steroline scenes, sob-worthy goodbyes - but at the end of the day, it’s hard to focus on anything other than the departure of Nina Dobrev. Also, wait, is there gonna be a time jump??

We have actually made it to the Alaric + Jo wedding, and you know weddings on TV shows are classically happy episodes with no conflict! Just kidding of course, plus combined with Jo's family and the history of Alaric's girlfriends of course we are in for an adventure in this season's penultimate episode. Elena is the maid of honor, Caroline takes over as the wedding coordinator, and Bonnie has an investigation on her hands when she sees Lily, Kai, and loopholes in her dreams. Matt and Tyler leave the groom to help Bonnie and Caroline, while Stefan takes the best man to face the hard parts of a human future on a trip to the suburbs. When a wedding crasher changes the course of the day, out heroes have their fair share of issues to face in next week's finale!

Alaric and Jo’s wedding is fast approaching, and you know what that means: it’s time for bachelor and bachelorette parties! Each one is lame in its own unique way. But although they’re lame, they’re not uneventful. Sure, there’s some silly fighting between Tyler and Matt, and jello shot shenanigans with Enzo but there’s some bigger drama too. Lily starts ripping! Jo is having twins! Elena takes the cure! All in episode 20?!? Girl …

Stefan has his humanity back and it is time for him to bring Caroline's back too! Luckily they have a whole B&B, a double agent, and an emotional letter from beyond the grave, so they've got this! Well of course it isn't that simple. Caroline throws a couple bombs at Damon and Elena while Alaric and Jo scout this B&B as a honeymoon venue and plan their wedding. Things don't go to plan but luckily Stefan finds a smoking gun in his own memories. Meanwhile, Bonnie is hunting down the ascendant because no way she's letting Lilly keep that! Enzo keeps Lilly busy learning why she abandoned him, but when she finds out why she was distracted she hatches a plan to use Damon's hesitance to share the cure against him. After she rips that apart in a slay way, those ripper tendencies are not far behind, with a different kind of slay.

Lily is now in the modern world, and she’s already wreaking havoc. First of all - gasp - she is not the mother Damon remembers! And she doesn’t seem to want to be. Plus, we find out she knows Damon is withholding the cure from Elena. Oh, and one more small thing … she’s the one who turned Enzo. WHAT? Enzo tells the dramatic story to Sarah before giving up on whatever he was doing with her. Meanwhile, the humanity free brigade (Stefan and Caroline) spends the day doing karaoke and threatening to kill Tyler, Matt, or both! Matt finally grows a pair and stops drinking vampire blood. Finally, Lily does make herself useful by leveraging his mommy issues to get his humanity back on.

It's a week of prison worlds, revenge, and sexiness this week! Steroline gets a dose of enemies to lovers, along with another lovely Caroline singing performance, Molotov cocktails, and Stefan working hard to drag Caroline right down to his level. But his level is sexy, so we are ok with it. Alaric and Enzo attempt to slow them down, but Alaric gets busy standing on Enzo's neck. Enzo reacts by changing his Sarah Salvatore approach (mostly giving up). Meanwhile, Elena, Damon, Bonnie, and Kai head into the 1903 prison world. Elena and Damon bond with Damon's mom, who is more of a family person than they knew. Bonnie takes her chance to backstab Kai right back, but also has a complicated gift for Damon. With Lily out and Kai in, drama is afoot in both 1903 and the present.

Caroline’s humanity is officially off and, to everyone’s surprise, she seems relatively fine? The most scandalous thing she does is try a new hair look and suggest everyone attend the Whitmore rave. That is, until Stefan tries to use love to trigger her humanity - then it’s straight to violence, using inspired pawns like Sarah and Liam. Meanwhile, Sarah learns Enzo is a vampire and doesn't give a fuck. Bonnie struggles with being back in the real world, while Damon struggles with the news that his mother is not dead, a vampire, and a ripper. Finally, we end the episode with Stefan making a decision that will certainly have painful repercussions.

It's time to officially say goodbye to our dear Liz Forbes with a beautiful funeral, and all planned in one day. Caroline holds herself together suspiciously well, but we soon learn she has her own secret strategy. Damon works on the eulogy while taking breaks to give just horrible advice. Elena meanwhile is slaying, as she so rarely does lately. Alaric and Jo miss the funeral because she and Kai are both sick, which they think is due to the unconventional merge. That may be true for Kai, but Jo has her own life-changing news to discover. Bonnie struggles as she moves to a new prison world unexpectedly, with an even more unexpected guest. But finally Bonnie gets back to the real world and Julie Plec just know you will be dealt with.

This week is all about the highs and lows of human emotion. From pure joy (Enzo hitting Matt with his car) to devastating despair (the death of Liz Forbes) and everything in between. On top of that, we have a Criminal Minds-esque investigation of - who else - Grayson Gilbert. Jeremy has a going away party before his departure “art school”. But most importantly, Stefan and Caroline FINALLY share a kiss (can you tell Grace is writing this synopsis?).

It’s Bonnie’s birthday this week! Which would be good news if she wasn’t still (yes STILL) stuck in the prison world. Elena and Damon plan to celebrate her birthday with cake, Caroline and Stefan attempt to save the real world Miss Cuddles from the forest where Caroline left here, and Bonnie has decided to make this her last birthday ever! With Kai’s help, and newfound empathy, Bonnie’s suicide plot doesn’t stay a secret and Jeremy attempts to give her a message of hope. Liv has decided the merge mess is totally Kai’s fault and should die, but she does as well in that ask Tyler did killing Klaus, with similar consequences. Meanwhile, Enzo builds his revenge plan centered on Sarah at Duke, and Matt is stuck helping out. Finally, with a sign sent to Bonnie, Delena finally hook up again, Steroline heats up, and Jeremy seems ready to head off to art school.

A lot of people sure do need some prayers this week! Liz is taken to the hospital after we learn that vampire blood doesn’t cure cancer after all - it makes it worse! Elena, who famously has been a pre-med student less than a year, does not hold back her medical and magical advice, even though she should. Kai proves useful to the debacle so Damon wakes him up - for the low low cost of a Liv/Luke merge. Liv, Luke, and Jo are not thrilled by this, but Joshua is fine! After some drama and shuffling, we actually do see a Gemini merge - not with a pair we expect, but it ends with a relatively expected casualty.

In this minisode we discuss the controversies surrounding Matt Davis, aka him being horrible and creepy. We may be Alaric fans but first and foremost we don't like xenophobic, Trump supporting predators!
Magic is flowing all over the place in and around Mystic Falls this week! With Kai full of magic courtesy of the travelers, he has to get a handle on all that power. Luckily, a vampire is perfect to test torture spells on. Meanwhile, Jo begins training for the merge, and while Liv and and Jo remain hopeful, pretty much everyone else is being realistic and sees the writing on the wall. But don’t worry, Luke has a plan to get out of the merge, he’ll just ask! In North Carolina, Caroline meets with a glioblastoma specialist and conducts an experiment while Stefan attends an art show crashed by none other than Enzo. The trip to Duke seems to provide the tools for Caroline to help her mom, but we end the episode feeling less than hopeful.

It’s Christmas in Mystic Falls, so this is a fun episode that won’t make you cry! Just kidding! Though we see flashbacks of happier Christmases, this one is tough: Bonnie is still in the Prison World, Liv and Luke are working with Kai to kidnap Jo, Matt wants to kill Enzo (and he’s being kinda weird about it), and to top it all off, Liz has terminal cancer! But on the plus side, the anti magic border is gone! Granted, that’s because Kai now has all that magic, but we needed a win. Also Stefan gives Damon a car! So that’s cute.

It's a busy, Parker-centric week! Damon's compulsion of Alaric comes through and with the ascendant in hand, it seem like we are absolutely getting Bonnie back this week, right? Jeremy is not so optimistic. Liv helps Elena and Damon go to the prison world, but they do their favorite thing: dilly dally. The rest of the Parkers are worried going into the prison world will let Kai out, but no worries, he did that on his own! Meanwhile, Stefan uncovers the truth about Sarah, leading to fights with Enzo and Matt. Enzo is being drama, but Stephanie is here to defend him! No one is defending Matt though because he's showing he has less of a backbone than Trip. Trip! Finally, Kai takes time to recruit a potential new ally.

It’s Thanksgiving in Mystic Falls and in the Prison World! Caroline throws an eventful Friendsgiving at Whitmore, where we find out just how Kai, Jo, Liv, and Luke are connected. Meanwhile, Alaric, Damon, and Stefan head to Portland to look for the ascendant, and end up learning some information of their own. Over in the Prison World, Kai treats Bonnie to a thanksgiving dinner and promises to let her never see him again. Damon and Elena attempt to bring her memories back, and we get to see a long awaited iconic kiss. Meanwhile, Stefan, Enzo, and Matt deal with Tripp, and Caroline is pulled in when Sheriff Forbes becomes collateral damage. Enzo takes the opportunity to slay of course, but not before completely blowing up Caroline's spot with Stefan, leading to a conversation Caroline hoped to avoid. In the prison world, Bonnie makes a useful discovery about Kai, but he has one more trick up his sleeve. Plus, it leads to yet another Stefan vs Damon debate. Elena visits Stefan in Savannah, GA - he takes her to a dive bar and shows her how to fake a human life, and she gets on her unearned grief high horse. Stefan retaliates by spilling the beans about her memory loss. Meanwhile in Mystic Falls, Tripp decides to let Matt in on a number of secrets that he already knows. It’s the season finale and it’s a big one! Bonnie actually has a plan to save almost everyone from the collapse of The Other Side, which everyone takes as a clue that dying is no big deal, and they all should feel free to do it. The list of dead people outnumbers the list of alive people, which should concern our heroes more than it does. The travelers, after 2000+ years of planning, are fooled by an open bar. Luckily, our team has a plan to explode the entire Grill - even all the chicken clubs! Liv does the spell with all the urgency of someone who’s brother was killed, but everyone else is pretty relaxed. It is the penultimate episode, and Julie Plec was clearly feeling epic but not in a good way! We start with Stefan and Elena escaping traveler captivity, but not before Markos gets a whole lot of doppelgänger blood. With all witch magic and everyone's lives in jeopardy, people start to take desperate steps. Liv and Luke attempt to stop the spell with one quick murder, fail, and Damon tries to distract and defeat Markos, and also fails. They bring Luke to cloak their presence, but he can’t cloak them from Enzo’s vengeful ghost. Plus, thanks to the impending collapse of the other side, Enzo can physically haunt them! Caroline is suspicious of Stefan and Elena’s closeness, and Damon is suspicious of their secretive-ness - but neither of them are equipped to keep anything under wraps for long. When Damon reveals his discovery that he actually met Maggie decades before, Enzo has a little bit of a meltdown but ends it with true icon behavior. Meanwhile the travelers are doing their bullshit, and reveal their plan, with the help of Sloan as a very unlucky guinea pig. Elena quickly starts spiraling and meets a “friend of Katherine’s” named Luke - who also happens to know Liv, who, guess what, is not so new to witchcraft. This week might as well be called The Dumbass Olympics. Almost all the characters make dumb decisions all episode - except, for some reason, Matt Donovan of all people. Katherine and Stefan go on a road trip to “find Damon”, where Stefan gets … distracted. Nadia and Matt tell the world’s least believable lie to Caroline and Tyler - and what’s worse is Tyler sort of buys it? Enzo and Damon are trapped at a farmhouse by Wes and the travelers, and do not use their time wisely. We have quite a long episode this week, potentially due to the fact that this is probably the last time we get to riff on Diane Freeman, Head of Whitmore Campus Security. At Whitmore it is the annual Bitter Ball, and Caroline and "Elena" are ready to celebrate a fresh start after their respective breakups. But Katherine is ready for a new boyfriend and will do her best to get a kiss from Stefan ASAP, though Damon slows that down in more ways than one. Damon and Enzo decide to lean into revenge and being evil this episode, a decision that immediately comes back to bite Damon in the ass. Jeremy gets kidnapped, again, and Bonnie enlists the help of Liv, a new witch from her sociology class. Meanwhile Wes finds a new source of funding for his research when he meets a traveller named Sloan, and finds a new vampire to experiment on by turning a hot janitor at the abandoned hospital he is working at. Katherine is successfully a passenger in Elena’s body, and her first order of business is to get rid of that damn red streak! Her second order of business is for her and Nadia to find Katherine’s corpse and make the spell permanent - but Elena is doing her darnedest to fight against that. For a leg up, Katherine and Nadia enlist the only compellable boy left in town - Matt! Matt throws Tyler a welcome back party, where he gets the worst gift ever: learning Caroline slept with Klaus. But who needs Tyler, right? Forwood is over, it’s Steroline time! Katherine ends the episode with a big win, and Damon ends the episode with a big loss, so he takes control the only way he knows how - by laying in the road and killing a driver.

Katherine really appears to be on her death bed, and everyone is ready to send her off! Damon starts drinking and projecting, definitely fueled by last week's potential Delena breakup, and everyone else is happy to join the blaming Katherine for our problems party. Except Stefan, who decides to be compassionate on her last day. This of course leads to the revelation he hooked up with Katherine, which paves the way for an even more exciting hookup! While Katherine lays dying, Nadia works on her plan to help her live on. And Katherine is nothing but a survivor, and this time Elena has to deal with the consequences...

Damon remains trapped in his cell, but Elena is on the hunt to save him and enlists the help of Aaron. Unfortunately, Aaron's past comes out faster than expected and Wes gets Elena trapped as well. But with her cell right next to Damon's, he can share his past experience with Augustine (even though he takes his sweet time giving any tips on escaping). Damon tells Elena about his old friend Enzo, his guilt about leaving him to die, and the torture that, let's be honest, has a very tenuous connection to science. Aaron confronts Damon and Elena after Wes confirms his parents were killed by a vampire, and Damon is thrilled to see the fruits of a long brewing revenge plan. Meanwhile, Katherine and Caroline work together to fix Stefan's panic attacks, with the help of the literal safe he drowned in and some good ol' Statherine chemistry. Finally, we leave with Damon still trapped in his cell, while Elena is trapped in yet another creepy room, but with a potential new friend who cheated death.

Our girls finally get to have some fun at college - not a lot, but some! Bonnie moves into the dorm room with a new bob and the same boyfriend (but they can have sex now, despite their distinct lack of chemistry). Caroline and Elena throw her a welcome party which is also a way to welcome Jesse to his new life as a vampire (and eventually to welcome him to the Other Side via a stake to the heart). Across campus, Damon tortures Wes and discovers a lot of information about Augustine - including that he was once an Augustine vampire (whatever that means)! Meanwhile in Mystic Falls, Stefan and Katherine get drunk, kill a passenger, and have an almost brush with suicide - but all in a very sexy and flirty way.

Everyone starts this episode expecting a good day - Katherine has a new lease on life, Elena is expecting her best friend to come back, and Tessa and Silas are expecting Silas to die. But things rarely go according to plan for our heroes, and they certainly don’t today. Silas takes Damon and Jeremy to a warehouse where they are looking for the elusive anchor. Meanwhile, Tessa is spelled into a cabin with Stefan, then decides to lure Elena in for some drama. And drama they get when the anchor is found! Meanwhile at Whitmore, a newly aging Katherine in search of a meal card teams up with Caroline to torture and interrogate Dr. Maxfield about the secret Augustine Society. Katherine helps Elena and Caroline stay at Whitmore, but she has her own requests for Dr. Maxfield.

We may be in college but that doesn't mean we're done going to balls! At the Whitmore historical ball, Caroline picks everyone's costumes and slays every single one, but Tyler lets her down as her date. Dr. Maxfield wears a very telling costume and continues to be untrustworthy, and even tries to scare Elena away. Elena meets someone grieving Megan's death, and of course feels the need to fix his survivor's guilt while ignoring her's. Meanwhile, Katherine and Nadia continue their trip and Nadia finally reveals her secret motivation to keep Katherine with her. Tessa joins everyone at the ball, and embarrassingly flirts with Stefan and then Silas, who Damon has teamed up with in an attempt to get Bonnie back. But Tessa takes Silas down, all set to get the cure from Katherine, but how could Katherine possibly survive being drained of all her blood?

Damon and Elena attempt to bring Stefan’s memories back, ironically enough, on Remembrance Day (a new-to-us Mystic Falls holiday). But despite Damon’s quips, Elena’s feminine wiles, and a perfect Stelena song, Stefan struggles. Meanwhile, Caroline invites Jesse on a study date at the cemetery where, guess what, he gets in danger. Matt sets up cameras to figure out what’s going on with him even though none of his friends really give a fuck. Jeremy finally decides it’s time to let everyone know that Bonnie’s been dead for quite a while, and she finally gets a funeral. Then, at the very end of the episode, Dr. Maxfield has a surprise for Jesse, and for us the audience.

If you couldn't tell from the title, we are flashing back to Silas' humble beginnings this week! It all starts when Elena has a dream about where Stefan ended up outside of the safe and she and Damon decide to go on a road trip to go find him. Unfortunately for them, Katherine had the same dream and is joining them on this trip. Meanwhile, Stefan was taken in by a woman with a history with Silas and shit to say. That's right, we get to meet Qetsiyah, who may be a little bold but was definitely right the whole time! She tells Stefan all about Ancient Greece, and Silas' true love, who just happens to look a little familiar. Katherine gets grabbed by Nadia, who has her own motive that is not clear, but we do learn why Silas wanted Katherine so bad! And Stefan finally returns to the Salvatore house, but he's missing a few very important things...

This week, news starts to spread that Stefan is … um … out of commission. While Silas’s many minions look for Katherine, Silas starts interacting with some of our heroes, including Damon and Elena (who have quite the lover's spat). Katherine, Jeremy, and Matt, attempt to evade Silas, but they only get so far. Matt has an eventful trip to the Other Side. Meanwhile at Whitmore, we meet Dr. Wesley Maxfield, a mean, young professor - will he be an ally or an enemy? Also, is Jesse suspicious? Also there’s a bonfire. At the end of the episode, a safe is retrieved from the quarry - but Stefan is still nowhere to be found.

It's the season five premiere after an eventful summer! Caroline has been prepping for college, Jeremy has been sending Bonnie's ghost emails, Katherine has been wandering as a human, Elena and Damon have been having tons of sex, and Stefan has been drowning over and over. As Elena and Caroline head to college, and meet their new roommate, they find that maybe staying close so close to Mystic Falls makes a fresh start hard. Meanwhile Silas has decided it's time to return to Mystic Falls, and cannot hide as Stefan for long. Damon balances Silas' demands and Jeremy's expulsion, all while Katherine shows that even when she's human, it's hard to keep her down. Silas ends the episode with a big kill, is he trying to be there next Mayor of Mystic Falls? Only the new season can tell if predictions come true...

It’s another season finale and man the cliffhangers are out to play! It’s time to graduate high school, a major rite of passage for everyone except Stefan who in on his 17th graduation. At least this one is memorable, with ghosts all over town. Elena and Alaric have to deal with Connor, who goes out doing what he loves, Stefan and Damon have to deal with Vaughn, who brings little beyond a Scottish accent, and Rebekah and Matt have to deal with Alexander, who is too intrigued by guns to do anything useful. After the ceremony, Elena finally makes her decision on the Salvatores, Klaus and Caroline give us a treat, Bonnie brings one ghost back permanently (but it isn’t her), Katherine and Elena have a shocking showdown, and Stefan faces Silas, who finally reveals his familiar face and makes us once again ask, “What the hell are we gonna do now?”

Bonnie gets moving on a super secret plan with a super unexpected ally. Meanwhile, Elena is openly a hater, and no one can convince her that love is more important than hate. Liz tries to get an update from Stefan and Damon when Silas’s drama starts to effect citizens of Mystic Falls. Everyone converges at the high school - even Silas - while Rebekah uses a power outage as an excuse to put the moves on Matt. Ghosts start appearing in Mystic Falls - some are welcomed by heart eye emojis, others by shrugging emojis.

We return to the major vampire diaries conflict this week, no not Silas, Elena's humanity! Stefan and Damon start by trying their same prom strategy, you know the one that didn't work, then decide to turn up the pain. Katherine is pulled in by the Salvatores and by Bonnie, but only one offers something she wants. Meanwhile, Silas has moved onto torturing Caroline (and the Klaroline stans), while putting Liz in danger. Rebekah continues her fight for Matt, giving the smallest apology and offering the least possible tutoring to make it up to him. At least Matt slays, led by Damon, to make Elena come undone, but when she comes back together she's inspired by a motivation no one saw coming.

It's time for prom at Mystic Falls High! Caroline of course planned a perfect prom (despite not bringing Klaus as her date smh), and luckily for the Salvatores the theme seems perfectly set up to get Elena's humanity back on. Unluckily for Damon, Elena only responds to romantic vibes from one brothers and it ain't him! Elena also uses her prom to steal from one best friend and try to kill another, while campaigning for Rebekah for prom queen. Rebekah tries to live the night as a human mostly by bothering Matt, and fails in more ways than one. And we finally see a win for Caroline in the form of a Forwood reunion (eh), a win for Bonnie as prom queen, and a win for the Steroline girlies! But alas the cure changes hands yet again, and Klaus gets a troubling letter...

Elena and Rebekah head to Willoughby, PA - the creamed corn capital of Pennsylvania - and find Katherine has a surprising new life. She also has a surprising new boyfriend, who we just might already know … Damon and Stefan meet them there, and even with a team of four against Katherine, they still can’t get the cure from her. Katherine even gets Rebekah to take a fake cure! Elena starts to increase her body count. Meanwhile in Mystic Falls, we learn Silas is (for all intents and purposes) a shapeshifter. But at least he gives us a lot of Klaroline!

We are in the city that never sleeps, aka NYC, this week! Damon tells Elena it's so she can have fun, but really he is continuing his hunt for Katherine and the cure. Rebekah meets them at a dive bar where Damon spent some no humanity time in the 70s, with none other than our humanity queen Lexi. He tells Elena all about this time as she plans to double cross him since, you know, her humanity is off. Bonnie continues to work with Shane, who she now knows is Silas, so she's doing awesome! Caroline, Klaus, and Stefan team up to get more information on the third massacre in an attempt to stop it, which has the complete opposite effect, but at least it gives us some heavy Klaroline! Finally, Klaus is the next one to meet Silas, and they do not get along!

It’s our first time seeing Elena without her humanity and tbh...she’s kind of a bitch! She joins the cheer squad just to feed on randos and hurt Caroline. Elena throws a party but gets upset when people have fun without her. Luckily, Damon can just use his sire bond to tell her to calm down! PSYCH. Damon spends the episode looking for a cure and not having a singe critical thought. But he does meet a mysterious person from his past, leading us to a brand new location: New York City!

Almost everyone is back from the island, including Jeremy's body that Elena is convinced will wake up any moment. Stefan, Caroline, and even Dr. Fell try to get Elena past the denial stage while Matt is actually pro-denial. Meanwhile, Rebekah stayed on the island to look for the cure, which really comes down to getting Vaughn's her looking for Katherine, who has an unexpected ally. Damon also stayed behind on the island to look for Bonnie, who is talking to "Shane" about how to help Silas, which Bonnie is much more on board with if it brings Jeremy back. But that idea of a third massacre returns, and we learn what Silas's actual goal is, and no one is particularly on board. Finally, once everyone returns to the Gilbert house Elena passes the denial stage, and Damon uses the sire bond to help her and she uses that to make one hell of a cover story...

We’re still on the island, and the group has become fractured in the final race for the cure. Damon is kidnapped by new Scottish hunter Vaughn, Elena Stefan and Rebekah team up by default (and splinter just as fast), and Shane kinda nailed having all the essential people on his side. But Shane somehow fumbles it all in the final stretch, all because he couldn't outrun rocks. In Mystic Falls, Caroline and Tyler learn Aramaic, and everyone learns that the cure may not fix all their problems after all. We get a Forwood breakup (yawn) and a Klaroline scene (giggle giggle). We finally meet Silas (in a way), and an old friend returns for - what else - also the cure. We end the episode on what seems like a pretty significant death - how will Stephanie cope??

Our heroes have made it as close to the cure as ever: an island in Nova Scotia! They start the trek deciding to stick together, but that falls apart quickly as they decide to trust Shane, who has gotten nearly all of his information from his "wife"... ok. Rebekah and Elena spar even though they are two of only three who actually want to take the cure if they find it. Damon pushes Shane to give more information, a little late, and Bonnie continues to uncover lies he's told. Meanwhile, Jeremy is attacked and then kidnapped, is anyone looking out for the guy with the supposedly important tattoo or what? Back in Mystic Falls, Tyler and Caroline taunt Klaus while he is trapped in the Gilbert living room, but of course he finds a way to fight back, and bring us a Klaroline scene! By the end of the episode no one really has what they want, but the race for the cure must continue!

The race for the cure continues, and our team can’t even count on the decade dance to distract them - because Mayor Hopkins cancels it after learning about just how bad things are in Mystic Falls. Meanwhile, Elena fakes a truce with Kol since he really wants to rip off Jeremy’s arm. Rebekah attends her first high school dance, thanks to Stefan, who does his best to make it seem fun and cool. Elena executes an uncharacteristically smart and successful plan - we see a huge death and a huge advantage for our heroes, who end this episode on the up and up!

We open this week where we left last week, at Zanadew with a whole bunch of new vampires. But Jeremy refuses to kill innocent people, even though isn’t that like the whole point to finish the hunter’s mark? Klaus tries to force Jeremy’s hand, but he avoids being useful long enough for Kol to show up and ruin everyone’s day. Kol really does not want Silas awake, though his reasons are vague. Rebekah and Stefan reminisce on the good times in Stefan’s serial killer era and team up to find the tombstone, but they aren’t alone. Damon gets compelled and in a win for Stefan girlies, he cannot resist it. Plus Shane actually got arrested since, you know, he confessed his mass murder last week. But lucky for him Bonnie, and apparently also Rudy, is ready to be manipulated. Finally, we end up with Damon in a dungeon, Stefan eating, and Elena actually coming up with a good plan to solve a whole bunch of their problems…

It’s Christmas in Mystic Falls, and ignore that the timing of that is iffy at best please! There is fake snow and a whole party in the town square, of course hosted by our queen Carol. Jeremy is trying to learn how to not kill his sister, and of course Shane is inserting himself, but he does give us some of his backstory. And Damon and Elena are there too, which tells you how well Damon did at telling Elena to stay away from him. The hybrids have a plan to take down Klaus, and it may be bad, but that really doesn’t matter for a fake plan! Hayley eats this episode but that’s not great for the rest of the hybrids. Meanwhile April finally tracks down her BFF and makes it through her first episode not being compelled! And finally, Klaus reminds us that he is truly a villain, but still in a Christmas way!

It’s time for a boys trip! Stefan and Damon head to New Orleans looking for sire bond solutions but end up rehashing the past and finding bad news. Meanwhile, Elena hosts a girls night because she stupidly assumes Caroline and Bonnie are Delena Stans - plus, she plies them with champagne, a recipe for emotional outbursts. Tyler struggles as the hybrids start revolting, and Hayley tells him exactly what to do to be their alpha - so doesn’t that kinda make her the alpha? But she’s got bigger problems: Shane is a bitch ass. Finally, we learn a little bit about the power of human sacrifice and we get a new vocabulary word: expression

It’s time again for Miss Mystic Falls! Our reigning Miss Mystic Caroline is leading the planning and she’s ready to lead the main ship this time around: Klaroline! Delena who? Delena still has their time for most of the episode, before us stans get unexpectedly pushed back into the trenches. April Young competes in the pageant, but don’t worry, her competition is weak and Shane is judging despite a substantial conflict of interest. Hayley and Tyler continue their plan to unsire hybrids, though we still don’t know why Hayley cares so much? Meanwhile, Jeremy’s hunter side is coming out in nightmares and Stefan accidentally makes it worse. And finally, we get a major twist that, as with all great twists, seems obvious in retrospect!

Now that Connor has escaped, and got more werewolf venom, the hunter threat is back and most of our team is very ready to kill him. Klaus wants Connor alive, but he is in Italy leading a dig for the sword. Stefan just has to keep Damon and Elena in check for a day, so that should be easy! Except it is not when Connor takes hostages in the grill. Elena and Damon are ready to rush in while Stefan slows them down, and of course Grace and Stephanie have different opinions on Stefan's work this week. Meanwhile Bonnie is hanging out with Professor Shane, just trusting him to hypnotize her without being creepy. And the Haley secret is out to Caroline, but maybe Klaus was not correct about the situation. Finally, we find out who the titular killer is, and they are dramatic about it, so you can guess from that.

There's a curfew in town this week since, you know, Tyler got shot at church, but that won't keep Rebekah down! She decides to throw an anti-curfew party, which also serves as a celebration because she actually wins against Elena this episode! Now Elena should be able to beat her, but damn this transition is kicking her ass. Connor has a plan to really ruin this party, but his plan is ruined by the unlikely pair of Damon and Klaus working together, but Klaus learns something that makes Connor worth saving. Elena’s transition continues and it’s getting worse! She keeps puking up blood and - if you can believe it - all her emotions are heightened! Plus, news quickly spreads on the sudden death of 12 council members and really brings down the vibe of the town (and they don’t even know it was a mass suicide). A new character, Connor Jordan, comes to town ready to kill vampires and be sexy while doing it! But he has a mysterious invisible tattoo and unclear intentions. The town comes together to hold a memorial, where new character (and new orphan) April Young is stabbed, Elena has a meltdown, and Tyler is publicly shot. So our team takes time to have their own funeral to remember some of the people they’ve lost (because oh boy is it a long list!).

It's the 4th season premiere and it's starting with a bang: Elena is a vampire now! Or not, because Stefan and Bonnie think they can somehow fix this even though Elena is alive so what's the big deal? Bonnie experiments with black magic and faces consequences, while many of the vampires get kidnapped by new faces from the council, who decided out was time to just make it a cult. Elena starts to come to terms with her transition and the idea they have all been outed to the council, but then the Pastor decides to really lean into the cult thing, specifically with mass suicide, what's that about?

In the season 3 finale (and maybe the best episode of the entire series), tensions are high. Elena has a brief coma dream before waking up to the nightmare that is her life as a bloodthirsty Ric searches for her. But she still gets to call the shots, and starts wheeling and dealing with the originals to save Klaus. The only person who doesn’t let her call the shots is Matt Donovan who drugs her and drives her off Wickery Bridge! But to be fair, she chooses to be on that bridge when she picks Stefan over Damon (let’s celebrate, Stelena hive!!) There’s a whole lot of death with varying levels of permanence, and when all the drama feels like it’s too much, we find out that Meredith gave Elena Damon’s blood - and she gasps awake ready to transition! Plus, we talk season 4 predictions and season 3 reflections.

It's all about the time before sunset this week because 1. Alaric does not have a daylight ring, and 2. Klaus loves to set a clock! The Mikalesons know its time to leave town, but Klaus needs his doppelgänger, and she should be easy to grab, right? A showdown in the school brings torture (who else but Caroline?), romance (finally Caroline), and realization (Elena ate!). It’s another decade dance, which is always a low stakes, fun episode where our characters don’t experience any epic loss. Psych! This decade dance continues the grand tradition of being traumatic. We've been waiting for this one! While Stefan and Alaric try to hunt down the last white oak stake that Evilaric hid, Damon and Elena go on a trip to get Jeremy from Denver, and that won't be sexy at all. Jeremy of course found a way to cause problems in Denver, and the hunt for answers about the vampire bloodline that led to the Salvatores leads our heroes to a motel. Yes, motel and Delena! Meanwhile, Caroline starts planning the decade dance and Rebekah is ready to be involved, but of course she still misses her chance for a nice date and nice dance. But let's be honest, the rest of the ep doesn't matter with that kiss...

Things are looking up for our heroes this week - if briefly. After the discovery that the Wickery Bridge sign is made of white oak, they’re able to fashion it into 12 stakes. And with the Originals linked, they only need to kill one original. That means they have 12 chances to kill one person - can they do it? The answer may surprise you! Meanwhile, Rebekah, annoyed that Damon isn’t irrevocably in love with her, kidnaps and tortures him while the rest of the gang preps for murder. Well, all the rest of the gang except Bonnie, who gets kidnapped but no one seems to notice. It's finally time for the new Wickery Bridge to get built! As construction begins, everyone is constructing their own schemes for the week. Alaric's situation is only looking worse as Elena treats him supernaturally while Meredith treats him medically, neither of which seem to be super successful. Caroline and Bonnie are helping Abby with her transition, but turns out the transition to mother is much harder than the one to vampire! Damon is helping himself by working with Sage to entice Rebekah with a threesome to get information, but turns out Sage is much better at helping herself and her dummy boyfriend. Rebekah gets her win, but Damon still gets a sliver. Meanwhile, Stephanie is starting to suspect Meredith might be innocent of the recent murders in Mystic Falls.

This episode finally sees our heroes asking “whodunnit?” Meredith, however, is the only one presenting a suspect and it’s not only one of our heroes, but one of the victims of the killer: Alaric! This prompts Damon to all of a sudden remember a similar string of murders from 1912 - conveniently a year Stefan was dealing with some of the same issues he’s dealing with right now! Crazy! Meanwhile, Rebekah is desperate for information on trees, which no one seems to tell her about despite not being suspicious at all. Also, romantic vibes are sort of in the air for Matt and Elena? With the news that Esther is just like Michael and wants to kill her children, people need to pick their sides! Elena feels bad that Elijah could be killed, but everyone else could care less. Elena goes to foil the plan she set in motion last week, but Elijah already has a plan and she plays her classic role: the hostage. The Salvatores are not pleased with Elijah's ultimatum, but Rebekah is pleased that she gets to be the one to kill Elena if the brothers fail, at least until Elena psychologically shits on her whole life. And everyone stops having fun with the results of the plan, a new transition, the lack of original vampire deaths, and a gunshot by a potential suspect for the founder's council murders.

That’s right, Esther is no better than Mikael and also wants to see her children die. But she needs Elena’s help, which she sadly gives. We discuss Stephanie's deep distrust of Dr. Fell, the first hint of Klaroline, the profile of a plain ol' murderer in town, and the game of chicken Klaus and Stefan are playing that really just hurts everyone else. We discuss the emotional highs of this episode, the ghost reunion that made us cry the most, and Grace finally lets it slip that she does not like Jeremy, which is fair given his behavior in this episode! And with the help of one surprisingly helpful ghost, our heroes seem to get one step closer to killing Klaus.

It's the first day of school at Mystic Falls HS - go Timberwolves! Coincidentally, it is also Elena and Stefan's quasi-anniversary. That's right, it's only been a year since the events of the pilot! Things have really changed huh! Our rag tag group of humans are now a ragtag group consisting of a doppelganger, a witch, a vampire, a hybrid, a medium, a vampire hunter, and .... one human. Plus, Rebekah joins the student body as its first Original vampire and oh boy does 2011 work for her. This episode has it all - magic, romance, and Alaric's car blowing up (bummer).

Klaus, Rebekah, and Stefan are in Mystic Falls, will the secret living doppelgänger be discovered? No mater what, it's still set to be an eventful senior prank night, where the Mystic Falls High seniors really dug into the first page of the "prank ideas" google search results. Almost everyone is at the school, from our heroes, to our villains, to Chad and Dana! Naturally those who are most needed at the school are MIA, as a new hybrid attempt hits close to home and everyone is looking for leverage. But above all, Klaus is working his hardest to turn his best friend into a true... rippah.

There's a lot that's disturbing about this episode - Stefan's lackluster manipulation scheme, Jeremy's secret obsession with his dead girlfriends, Damon's temper tantrum that results in a literal corpse, Bill's smug response to being compelled, Gloria's very painful voodoo, and most importantly: the fact that every founding family brought chili to a potluck!

This week were are in Chicago and in the 1920s, and are reminded that truly a little party never killed nobody! We finally learn why Klaus wanted Stefan and the reason is... goofy? Plus we learn the origin of Elena's necklace, see Stefan's idea of fun as a ripper, watch Caroline's dad fully miss a conversion therapy metaphor, and finally see a look not even Nina Dobrev can pull off. Grace and Stephanie of course take this opportunity to discuss the pick me vibes of The Great Gatsby and make lots of improv comedy jokes. Plus a new character who is simply vibes...

We are off to the smoky mountains of Tennessee to see if we can turn the hybrid into the hybrids - the episode title gives us a clue about how that works (and if you missed that clue, maybe all of them crying blood was more clear). Elena, Ric, and Damon head to the woods to find Stefan who claims he doesn't want to be found but clearly does. Klaus continues to want Stefan around despite the fact that he's a downer - he even cures a werewolf bite, but why? Meanwhile, Tyler learns what vervain tastes like and teaches his mom a thing or to about his lifestyle as Caroline is chained up in a dungeon awaiting torture from a mysterious not-so-stranger. And if that's not enough, we even get a couple sexy Delena moments!

It's a new season and it's our main character's birthday! After summer vacation everyone is celebrating Elena, but she doesn't feel like celebrating with Stefan still out of Mystic Falls. And it's a shame she isn't seeing him because when Stefan is being evil, he is also being very very hot. Caroline throws a party where a joint is passed but never smoked, sexual tension builds, and not a single high schooler seems weirded out that their history teacher is there. Plus, the effect of Gossip Girl's sexiness on teen dramas as a whole, assumed restaurant gossip at the Mystic Grill, and the death of a character who we all are surprised made it to season 3.

It's the season 2 finale and Julie Plec really brings it! Mystic Falls chooses possibly the worst day to screen Gone with the Wind as Damon really starts to feel the werewolf venom kick in. Sheriff Forbes finally takes action but it backfires (and now Stephanie has a vendetta against her). Klaus, now a hybrid, starts to wreak the havoc everyone worried he would. Plus we reflect on season 2 and talk expectations for season 3 as we are left with a number of cliffhangers. And one couple shares a kiss ...

We have been leading up the sacrifice all season, and it seems like it is actually going to happen? Despite plenty of attempts at planning, things continue to spiral for our team of heroes. Will Elena become a vampire? Will the curse be broken? Will Elijah be able to kill his own brother? Will Matt ever put down that damn gun? In this episode Grace and Stephanie celebrate and cry, because Julie Plec giveth but she also taketh away...

We are heading straight into a sacrifice it seems .... or are we? In this third to last episode of the season, people are getting in and out of danger left and right! Plus, Damon makes a very logical decision that everyone hates, Stefan and Elena go for a hike in jeans, and Matt Donovan attempts to be useful but once again misses the mark.

It's the triumphant return of the Mystic Falls High Decade Dance - the costumes are better, the stakes are higher, and the enemies are meaner! Ricklaus causes some havoc but mostly just projects his insecurity. Meanwhile, the Sheriff contemplates what she did in a past life to deserve the world's most useless ally. We witness a major death, some major romance, and some major Mi-Fi spon. Finally, Elena takes matters into her own hands (as if she hasn't been running the show since the pilot...)

Isobel is back, and she is determined to be the main character of this show if it kills her! Everyone is working hard to move their plans forward in alliances, but deception abounds. Most are straight up lying, some are leaving out details (like the location of the witch sacrifice), and one is simply not actually on any team. Grace and Stephanie also talk about a ... creative hiding space, reporting the local news, and how dope it is to carry blood in something other than a classic blood bag. And finally, we have an actual reason to hate Matt Donovan!

Katherine is back and wreaking havoc in the form of simply just existing near the Salvatores! Romance is in the air in Mystic Falls and so is deception - good thing Caroline has the opportunity to sing to us about it! The Martins hatch a flawed plan and the results are .... well, flawed, to say the least. And the episode ends with a return that no one saw coming ...

Get excited, we are all invited to a dinner party this week! Except Uncle John but he'll show up no matter what evidently. It's an uneventful dinner party with no ulterior motives... not. We learn the truth behind the mysterious dagger, get a new term for our TVD glossary ("ripper"), see an old friend who we have missed dearly, and Dr. Martin takes drastic measures. Meanwhile, Elena keeps reading those journals, but is not quite a fast enough reader and pays dearly for that. Plus, Katherine gives us some trickery, and just because it is easy for her doesn't mean it isn't fun!

This week, our werewolf chapter comes to a close (or does it?). The werwolves make dumb decision after dumb decision, such as assuming Tyler is smart, mentioning torture porn unprompted, hiding from Elijah under a JACKET, and, of course, underestimating Elena Gilbert. John continues his quest to become the most hated man in Mystic Falls and Elena and Stefan are hornier than ever at the Gilbert lake house. Finally, the gang learns a bombshell piece of information that Elena has known for weeks.

The daddy issues are just coming from the single worst dad this episode, but it's not just his daughter who has issues with him! Hating on John Gilbert is always good, but Grace and Stephanie also talk "hero hair", classic werewolf names, torture strategy, and the aggressive nature of seeing a gun on this show. Plus, a whole lot of Tyler dropping bombs and changing others' plans despite having simply no idea what is going on.

This week, we're dealing with the aftermath of the full moon - and our very first werewolf bite! Tensions are flaring across Mystic Falls - Damon and Jules double down on threats, Caroline is kissed multiple times, and Rose has some choice advice for Elena. Meanwhile, Damon deflects to avoid emotional vulnerability and Jules snitches to get Tyler on the werewolf side. Plus, we see the return of the opposite of a fan favorite character ...

This week it is the midseason finale AND the full moon! It is time for Tyler's first transition and he is stressed, for good reason it turns out. We meet a new character hunting down Mason, which is of course automatically suspicious. Luckily Damon and Alaric have their acting skills to rely on to get some answers! Meanwhile, Stefan is trapped in the tomb, Elena is trapped in her house, and Elijah has an offer that Elena may not be able to refuse. And since it's a midseason finale, you know we have to have a cliffhanger...

If you couldn't tell by the title, this week is a whole lot of Katherine! We get a peek into her past, including a baby and her transition, making a whole bunch of enemies along the way. Plus, we finally learn about the intricacies of her plan that brought her to Mystic Falls. Meanwhile, we meet a new supernatural character, we see Caroline masterfully play Stefan, and Elijah flexes his Originals power. It is the Lockwood Masquerade Ball, and plans are afoot! The Salvatores have their team assembled with one goal: to kill Katherine. Everyone has a job, except Elena who everyone expects to just sit at home, good luck with that! But of course, Katherine has her own plans, starting with actually straightening her hair before pretending to be Elena this time.
