A podcast about Neil Young’s music from Mike Hsu and The Condon Brothers (of Town Meeting). Proud part of Pantheon – Podcasts for Music Lovers.
The podcast Long May You Young is created by Mike Hsu and The Condon Brothers. The podcast and the artwork on this page are embedded on this page using the public podcast feed (RSS).
Hey Youngsters. It's been a minute.
Two things:
First: Here's a quick and fun interview with our friend Astrid Young who's got an amazing new project in the works with some of the best in the business. Astrid is one of the best in the game, and just an all around genuinely great person. Check it out and show your support here: https://igg.me/at/ONAGR/x#/
Second: We miss you like crazy, but all good things must come to an end. We're planning on doing 5 or 6 more episodes over the summer, and then wrapping it up for all intents and purposes. That being said, we'll still do some random episodes when the spirit moves (and I'm sure it will move...), but as far as being a regular podcast goes, we'll be eating the proverbial peach. I'm sure there will be much more to say about all this in the next few episodes, but feel free to post your thoughts here on what you might want to hear in the last few episodes. We may or may not take your advice.
We love you all so much. Except you, Nails. You can go to hell.

We were gonna record this episode in person but New England weather pushed us into zoom once again, so apologies for the less than stellar audio quality.
We all really loved Homegrown. We talk about it. We also spend a lot of the episode listening to Mike gush over The Banshees of Inshirin.

It's been a long minute, Youngsters, but we're back. And we're talkin' Colorado! We talk about the planet. We talk about Nils. Some new bits get created. Some old one's get archived. It's an episode.
We missed you. We're happy to be back.

Hey Daryl! You're on the podcast!
Starting this weekend (9/30/22) Paradox is officially available on the Neil Young Archives! And who better to spread the news than our old friend Adam CK Vollick and our new friend, the one and only Daryl Hannah!
Huge, huge thanks to both Daryl and Adam for joining us on this episode. We were psyched to revisit Paradox and even more excited to talk about it with both of you. The movie is exactly what the title says it is: somehow a deep, beautiful story with multiple layers to unravel and simultaneously a lighthearted home movie that shouldn't be taken too seriously. It's equal parts metaphor and mischief. It's a vision and it's a vibe.
It's a loud poem. And we love it.
So if you haven't yet, go ahead and immediately subscribe to NeilYoungArchives.com and check out Paradox - releasing this Weekend!
Love you.

We're trying our best to not have this turn into a once-a-month podcast, I promise. So here we are a month later talking about Tuscaloosa! We get into the album. The song versions on it. Neil's funny and sometimes not funny intro banter. Danny Whitten gets brought up. We read some reviews. At some point "Angry Neil" makes an appearance and really lets us have it. He seems like he'll be around a while. We've missed you, Youngsters!

How's the business, Youngsters?
It's been a minute! A few of them actually. But we're finally back and booming with some quality LMYY content - talking about ourselves and occasionally sprinkling in some Neil talk. And the Neil talk I speak of comes from two great live albums - Songs For Judy and Tonights The Night Live at the Roxy. We get into our favorite tracks. Talk a little history. Get sidetracked. It's pretty much exactly what it's always been. Mike gets mad at Russ for putting ketchup on a pastrami sub. Have you missed us?

You better believe Mike put on his best cowboy outfit for this one, while Luke and Russ chimed in from their twin outhouses. That's right. It's time to talk about Paradox, Youngsters. Daryl's behind the camera and Neil and the POTR boys are out front. We talk about our highlights from the movie. We get gushy over Lukas covering his dad's tune. Luke wishes he were there for that cowgirl jam. Mike loves a good pipe organ. Russ enjoys a particular river scene. Who am I kidding? We all do.

The jury is in: This is one hell of an album. Almost every review we found, and everyone we asked seems to have the same feeling - this is raw Neil doing what he does best and doing the hell out of it. Recorded in 76 but not released until 2017, this stripped down collection is some of the finest Neil we've heard. We geek out for quite a while on it.
Mike unfortunately had a family situation and had to bail last minute, but thanks to our top tier Patrons John Locke and Craig Bitch - we had a hell of a time!
For real though - top ten Neil album. At least in my (Luke's) opinion.

All the boys agree, this is a good album. it's Neil doing what he does best, and finding exactly the best people for the job to accompany and produce a solid record. It's Peace Trail. We talk about it's origins. The pipeline protests. We semi-worship Keltner a bit. We read some mixed Facebook reviews. A robot orgy / Jacket family reunion is discussed. Russ and Mike at some point have a Malkavich-off. We get on the Peace Trail and ride. Thank your Alexa later.

A Neil Young podcast walks into a pub and talks about Thin Lizzy...
It's Saint Patrick's Day! So we're taking a quick break from Neil's catalogue and diving into some good old Irish rock n' roll - Thin Lizzy's first self titled album. You're probably asking yourself if a Neil Young podcast can just decide to do an episode about something not really Neil related at all and the answer is we can do whatever we want.
Mike's out for this one, so our good pal Will Martin is taking his place! We talk about the formation of Thin Lizzy. The range of this album. Russ is mad that he slept on it for so long. We try and figure out who Ireland's Neil Young is. We geek the hell out over Phil's bass playing and Brian's drumming. It's a hell of a time. Truly.
Thanks to Will Martin for filling in for Mike!

It's mind-blowing to me (Luke) how many people have missed this album, including myself. I don't know if it's because of the album title, or if it's because it's one of his later records, but after spending close to a month listening, it's nothing but a tragedy that I, and so many others, slept on this one. The Monsanto Years rules.
We talk about the album title. We get into Promise of the Real. Tim Cackett (Town Meeting) hops on towards the end and chimes in for a few songs. Honestly I don't know what to write here other than go listen to this album. It's really really good.

Very excited for today's episode because we got to talk to our old pal Derek Webb! Derek has been a fixture in the Nashville music scene for over two decades and according to Luke - he's a lot like Neil. We get into his favorite Neil albums, the songwriting process, his experience with record labels and a bunch more. Honestly, it's one of those rare episodes where we don't go completely off the rails. It's kinda nice. Also, we fired Mike for this episode and hired our favorite substitute podcaster, Matt Lacorazza. So thanks to him for stepping in.

Joel's still with us as we wrap up our thoughts on Storytone. We go song by song and compare versions. Luke almost makes Mike quit with his careless commentary on blues music. We find out Neil might be Joel's dad. Honestly, the more I think about it the more I'm sure Neil is definitely Joel's dad. Even if it's not true, I'm happy to just start that rumor. Joel is Neil's son. You heard it here first, Youngsters.

I'm sure this will saturate our episodes for the weeks and probably months to come, but we felt like we had to do at least one episode specifically about what's going on right now. We give our opinions on Rogan, spotify and the whole situation here. Do we cover everything? No. But it's a start. And there's more to be said.
Ironic that the next album we'll be covering is The Monsanto Years, no?

Joel Desmarais-Racine (Don't Be Denied podcast, Neil Young Canadianposting) joins the boys all the way from Canada for this mammoth two-parter where we try and tackle every inch of Storytone! We discuss the making of the recordings. We get into our favorites and least favorites of the 3 versions Neil released. Joel brings up Neil's relationship with Pegi vs. Daryl. Luke and Russ feel a bit like Disney Princess's. Joel can't believe we've never seen Predator 2. Mike gets a little annoyed at Luke calling Neil "Giddy Lee". Luke learns something new about David Hasselhoff and Jackie Chan.

We're back, baby! Delayed a week or two because Luke and Russ caught a little bit a 'rona, but now we're back and we're jumping right into A Letter Home! Mixed feelings right off the bat with this one. Mike comes in hot (he's back on the scotch...) and echoes our friend Joel's sentiment that it feel a bit gimmicky. Luke disagrees. Russ is somewhere in the middle. The episode is going along smoothly enough until Al gets brought up, then all hell breaks loose. You'll see what we mean.

Even though it wasn't released until 2013, we're heading back to the early 70's again with Live at the Cellar Door! An absolutely fantastic album, we get into why it wasn't included in the archives. We talk about our favorite tunes, as well as the placement of this release. Luke issues a formal apology to Ringo. Mike says he won't record any more episodes unless we get him a 9 foot piano. Luke thinks Neil sounds adorable. Russ doesn't let it bring him down. It's a good one.

The Horse is back for a second time in 2012 to deliver one of - in most of our opinions - the finest albums they've ever made. It's Psychedelic Pill! Our pal John Craigie joins us once again and we dive into each song. We fawn over Ramada Inn. Mike threatens physical violence against anyone who doesn't like the song. We find out John is a bit of a whistle snob. Russ has an interesting take on She's Always Dancing. Luke can't get enough of Driftin' Back. It's a great album to talk about. We had fun on this one.

Neil gives us his take on some American classics on his 31st studio album, Americana! And he's back with the horse! The boys lament over the "Lost" episode. We get into the origins of the songs. Luke suggests that maybe Neil is more than a time traveling vampire. Mike laments the amount "Tom Dula's" there are. The Soprano's gets brought up and basically takes over most of the rest of our recording. It's an okay episode, I guess. It's not even close to as good as the Lost episode. I really wish you guys could have heard that one. It was amazing. Perhaps the best thing we've ever done. Tom Dula.

Two albums for the price of one today, Youngsters. And oh man, do we got two ABSOLUTE GEMS. We dip into Dreamin' Man and compare it to Harvest Moon. Luke prefers it. Russ thinks it lacks BK, but also loves it. Mike only wants to listen to Such A Woman. We move onto A Treasure and zoom almost immediately kicks Luke off and stops the recording. Russ geeks out over Long Grain. I mean, really geeks himself out. We talk about the Harvesters. We talk about this tour. It's a good episode. Trust me. Or don't. I don't care.

Neil joins forces with the uber talented producer Daniel Lanois to create his 30th studio album, Le Noise! And we join forces to talk about it! We go over the album and the unique way they went about making it. Luke very much loves Love and War. Russ reflects on this being the Neil's first project after the passing of Ben Keith and LA Johnson. Mike very much prefers this version of hitchhiker. Luke recounts stories from Nail's bachelor party. We plug the patreon too much.

Spoiler alert: There is almost zero Neil Young talk in this episode. Also - THIS ONE IS RIDICULOUS. If this is your first time tuning in - sorry.
Mike couldn't make it this week, but Russ and Luke were near the equipment anyway so they thought they'd record a little something to show you they didn't forget about you and to let you know this is the end of their lackadaisical summer. It's Neil's 29th studio album and boy is it a fun one to talk about! The boys have mixed feelings about it. We get into the Lincvolt and the documentary behind it. Russ talks about Ben Keith and this being his last album with Neil. Luke loves Just Singing A Song. We toss around the idea of a Patreon page (Then while Luke is editing the episode, he gets drunk and makes one - patreon.com/longmayyouyoung). I hate to get all Staind folks but it's been a while, hasn't it? Well, fear not! The boys are back talking about the first two installments of the ever growing archives! But in true LMYY style, we banter a bit before hand. Not gonna lie there's like 13 minutes of strait banter before Neil gets mentioned at all. What do you want? We had to catch up. We missed each other! Anyway once we get into the meat, we compare the two records. We talk about the highs and lows of each. Russ is sick. Luke likes Bad Fog Of Loneliness and thinks Massey has a real lonely vibe. We read your facebook comments. We learn Mike often goes commando. We try to pronounce the last name Jansch. We're living with war, folks. And what a war this episode is. The boys talk about the difference between the original version and the In The Beginning version and talk about which one they prefer. Luke brings up the Deja Vu documentary. We get a little more political towards the end because, how can you not while talking about this album. Also, Mike breaks our zero tolerance policy about Jimmy Buffet and has to be reprimanded. We might impeach him.

It only took us a literal month, but we finished Prairie Wind! Who knew this would be the album we needed so much time for? We finish going through the songs. We talk about Heart of Gold - the film, specifically Rick Rosas's bad ass outfit and one-thumb bass playing. Mike discusses his theory on what the titular Prairie Wind represents. We get a little deeper during When God Made Me. But we balance it by making literal fart noises and burping like idiots during the majority of the episode, even during some of the most beautiful moments on the record.

It's the crazy season, Youngsters! Luke's hundreds of kids are all in the playoffs, Town Meeting is back up and booking summer shows like crazy, Mike is on the radio constantly and hunting Italian grinders in his downtime. What we're trying to say is, the pandemic it seems is coming to an end (Hallelujah!), and our lives are starting to explode again! So apologies in advance for the next few episodes - they may be scattered or short, but we will stay the course! And hopefully by the end of the month we'll have our schedules ironed out a little better.
But that's neither here nor there. What's important is that we talk about Neil Young. And specifically the gem that is Prairie Wind! Although we don't get to all of it, we do cover some important topics: Neil's father passing, the discovery of an aneurysm, name dropping Chris Rock, etc.
Unfortunately this episode gets cut short (Luke's fault), but we vow to finish it ASAP! Next episode look for the conclusion of Prairie Wind and possibly a little Heart of Gold as well. We appreciate you bearing with us! See you next time, Youngsters.

We've arrived at Greendale. And what a perfect way to head into our second year of this beautiful wonderful nonsense that we call a podcast. Seriously though, what an album. More than that. What a world! Whatever Greendale is supposed to be or not be, all your hosts agree Neil executes everything perfectly. Down to the little details in each song. We get into the geography of the town, the way the Horse perfectly handles carrying the story, and who we'd cast in an HBO series based on the album. It's a long one, but honestly we could have talked for three more hours about these songs and characters Neil created. And we probably will. There's so much more to Greendale than just the one album, I'm sure we'll get back into it down the road at some point.

It's our 50th episode and we invited all the Youngsters to join our celebration!
Oh man, what a ride it's been. It's crazy to think that this time last year we were throwing on Neil's first self-titled album and getting ready to see if this whole thing would work at all. Seriously. Luke didn't even know what Squirt was. Russ was only flirting with Ben Keith. And Mike had NO IDEA what he was getting himself into.
But what a year it ended up being! (For the podcast, anyway. Everything else about 2020 can go right straight to hell) From Nails to the Titular Bird to the Jacket to drinking an ungodly amount of Squirt, we've had a blast navigating the waters of all these albums. We even managed to talk about Neil Young on a few of them.
So from the bottom of our hearts, honestly, thank you all! This episode was so fun for us - getting to meet all of you and talk about our mutual obsession with old Shakey. There's no fan like a Neil fan, and you all prove that to the max. Thanks for being part of the podcast. Thanks for being a part of this episode. And thanks for being our friends. For real. The incredible John Craigie joins us for a second time, this time to talk about Neil's second album of the 2000's. And boy do we have mixed thoughts. We talk about Booker T. Jones meets Ol' Silver Gold. We get really close to getting into 9/11 conspiracies, but we show a little restraint. Luke wonders why McGruff the crime dog didn't make it into the liner notes. Russ thinks this album would have fit well in the middle of Neil's 80's records.

It's another zoom episode, folks, and oh boy do we get into it on this one. Russ is absent (theories to his whereabouts abound), but thankfully some "friends and relatives" of the show contribute throughout! First, Luke reads a message our good pal Astrid sent about the Red Rocks show about the crazy weather and some situations that arose because of it. Mike and Luke discuss the wild differences between the album and the Red Rocks DVD. One is pretty universally thought to be superior. We'll let you figure it out. I won't tell you who the other two "friends and relatives" are, but if you put a feather in your cap and nail it there, you'll probably figure it out.

With differing opinions on Neil's 23rd studio album and his first album of the 2000's, your favorite podcast trio discusses Silver & Gold over a zoom call and some hearty flapjacks. Russ obviously talks about Ben Keith, but also his appreciation for the rest of the band. Luke likes the album but thinks it lacks edge. Mike likes it and also introduces a new character, Ol' Silver Gold, who is bound to become another ridiculous staple to this insane podcast. We all loved Without Rings, though. It's just a great song.

Special guest Dan Condon (Luke and Russ's old man - see what I did there) joins us as we dive deep into the waters that are Year Of The Horse. We talk about the album and the film and the crazy differences between the two. We share Neil story's. Talk a little more Billy Joel. Dan tells how he got into Neil. Luke tells stories from the film. Mike tells more incorrect facts about the Hale Bop comet. (I know that's probably spelled wrong. I don't care.) What we're trying to say is - we smell the horse on this one baby. We smell it real good. Part of Pantheon Podcasts.

Neil continues to dominate the 90's and take no prisoners as he does it. Broken Arrow is a downright masterpiece. It's Neil and the horse at their absolute finest. Our friend and Neil Guru Chris Letarte joins us for this episode to talk about the impact this album had on him when it came out. We talk about the death of David Briggs and it's impact on Neil. Chris talks about seeing the Broken Arrow tour. In typical LMYY style, we end up talking about Billy Joel too much. It's a good time.

This week we're joined by the extremely talented Astrid Young - a singer/songwriter, musician, author and all around amazing human being. She also happens to be Neil's half-sister. We talk about going from classical music to Black Sabbath, Astrid's latest album (It's so good), and the story behind some of the songs. Mike tells us about a phone in the desert and we speculate on the kind of things that happen out in the Mojave. Russ surprisingly fawns over Ben Keith a bit more. Astrid tells us some behind the scenes stories about the recording of Unplugged. Luke gives a shout out to good sound techs. (You know who you are.) It's was a good time.
Oh yeah, and we start off talking for about 8 minutes about Mike getting kicked out of a St. Patrick's day parade with the Dropkick Murphy's. Happy belated Saint Paddy's, everybody!
Huge, huge thanks to Astrid for hanging and talking with us. Her latest album, One Night at Giant Rock, is incredible and is streaming everywhere. Make sure you check it out, as well as her book, Being Young.

It's been a long December (through March) and here we are now at the Dead Man soundtrack! A film scored exclusively by Neil Young. Obviously not quite as long of an episode this time. We talk soundtracks, scores. Get in a heated debate about what does and doesn't belong in the top ten songs of all time. Luke does some heavy breathing. Russ gives us his take on how he thinks Jim's pitch meeting probably went. Mike is the only one of us who's seen another Jarmusch film, and Luke and Russ don't say it, but they're embarrassed. Also, this is another zoom episode so the quality isn't the best. Apologies in advance. Maybe the next show will be better than the last...

On November 13th, in the year 1990 Neil Young rode the horse into a tiny rock club in Santa Cruz, California and recorded the whole thing. He released it 31 years later and it hit Luke so damn good that he immediately texted his other Neil obsessed nerd friends and demanded an emergency bonus episode. So here it is. If you haven't listened to Way Down In The Rust Bucket yet, you should stop what you're doing immediately and get it into your ears. It's Neil and the Horse at their goddamn best. And it's currently streaming everywhere. (But listen to it on the archives. It's better there. Trust me.)

It's another Monster of the Week episode on Long May You Young and this week we got to zoom it up with Bill Janovitz from Buffalo Tom! We talk about Neil, obviously. But we also talk about getting music into TV shows, how Buffalo Tom got started, naming a band, and what song Bill would love to hear Neil cover. He's also got a slightly different (dare I say, controversial?) take on Keep On Rockin' In The Free World. A truly great guest, songwriter, artist, author and a Neil fan to boot; we were psyched to have Bill join us.

It's 1995 and Neil is teaming up with Pearl Jam to make one of the most fabulous albums of the 90's (In Luke's opinion...) It's Mirror Ball! The boys start by congratulating Mike for his new job doing the morning show at The Pike by singing him a tune they whipped up. We get into the album pretty much right away. We talk about Pirate Neil, Abortion, Eddie's stalker, Merkin Ball and our different opinions of Downtown. (Mike thinks it's about CSN...) Overall, we've all got favorable things to say about this record.

On this week's monster episode (cue x-files theme) we got to talk to the incredibly talented singer/songwriter John Craigie. We talk songwriting, favorite Neil albums, stealing weed from Todd Snyder, and we dabble in the ever popular topic of Dylan vs. Neil. John's released an album last year called Asterisk The Universe and it's a damn masterpiece. Everyone should check it out. A beautiful and sad album from beginning to end, Sleeps With Angels has us feeling all sorts of feelings. In a rare afternoon recording session, we talk about the mournful nature of Neil's 20th studio album (and 7th with the horse) and how he's still got it well into the 90's. Dripping with melancholy, there's little to dislike. We talk about Cobain's suicide and the impact it had on this release. Russ spills a giant drink. We say the word "Change" so much on this album it becomes a new drinking game. My Heart has us all close to tears and Change Your Mind is such a great song no one minds the length. The only song that had us divided was Piece Of Crap. One of us thought it was, well, a piece of crap. Who? You'll have to listen to find out. Sleeps With Angels is not to be ignored.

So apologies in advance for this episode, folks. It's probably the one we talk about Neil Young the least amount, and you can definitely hear the lack of Mike's notes...
It's another Monster episode, and due to circumstances beyond anyone's control, our scheduled guest had to cancel last minute. But thankfully the other boys from Town Meeting - including our manager, Mike - were able to hop on last minute and help us ride out a good old New England snow storm. The boys are late of course. Like very late. Thankfully our Manager hops on first. He's a little salty, but we still talk about Neil, rebelling against parents and Crispin Glover's album. Yes. You heard that right. Tim and Babe slowly trickle in and we talk a little more Neil, share some road stories and talk about nick names. It's a fun one.

Since both Lucky Thirteen and Unplugged mostly feature songs that we've covered already, we decided to double them up for this episode. And yes, there are a lot of repeats, but there are so many gems in these records. Russ starts in with more Ben Keith stuff. Mike and Luke fawn over Depression Blues. Russ's boss stops by for the first 15 minutes to talk about a board game he made up. We open a mysterious package left by a certain nail salesman. The boys all fawn over this version of Helpless. We imagine Neil running down Broadway. It's an episode of a Neil Young Podcast, but you know that. I'm mostly just writing it to boost our analytics and get in more google searches. This week we zoomed it up with our friend Griffin Sherry! Griffin is an insanely talented musician and songwriter for the band The Ghost Of Paul Revere. We talked about his favorite Neil albums, what it was like to play on Conan, CSN vs. CSNY, and becoming part of Maine state history. Luke and Mike fight a little more about T-bone. We also read an iTunes review from Horse Lords and it pretty much unravels from there.

Happy new year, Youngsters! And what better way to start a new year than with this absolute gem of an album. The boys all agree, it's one of the greats. We talk about whether or not this is a "sequel" to Harvest. Mike brings up Russ's recent medical procedure. Mike also brings up Hootie and the Blowfish an unusual amount of times. But not nearly as many times as Russ brings up Ben Keith. It's borderline worrisome. Luke eats some fudge and thinks it may have been of the medicated variety. Do we actually talk about Neil? You'll find out. One of these days.

It's the holiday season and let me tell you, Youngsters, the boys are MERRY in this one. Mike brings some pecan pie and it sets our spirits bright for a good fireside chat about Weld and Arc. We talk about the Horse, of course. Mike brings up David Briggs making someone cry and Neil putting a boot into the ass of one of his band members. The boys talk about edibles and live music. We compare versions of songs with earlier versions. We eat more pie. It's a good way to end 2020.

This album is so good. The horse is back and better than ever on Neil's 18th studio - Ragged Glory! Luke mixed up a few delicious Squirt based drinks and we get into it. Russ and Mike talk themes. Luke loves the way it was recorded. We come up with a questionable name for the drinks Luke made. About an hour into the episode, Luke gets noticeably annoyed at connection issues with his iPad. He wonder's why it keeps f*ckin up. Luke and Russ love Mother Earth. Mike not as much. We all agree, when it comes to Ragged Glory, we could listen "over and over".

Super excited to have Patterson Hood from the Drive-By Truckers join us to talk about Freedom! We're all pretty in love with this album. We talk about how happy we are to finally be out of the 80's records, but also how this one wouldn't be what it is without them. We talk about Neil's influence on Patterson and DBT, and how sad it is that songs written in the 60's and 70's about racial injustice are still somehow relevant today. Luke loves Don't Cry. A lot. Russ finds a way to bring up Ben Keith every 12 seconds. Mike and Patterson reminisce about shows in Richmond. We had a blast.

Don't believe the rumors, Youngsters. We didn't record this episode for Pepsi, Coke, Miller or Bud. This pod's for you. Not gonna lie, there's A LOT of tangents in this one. We get sidetracked quite a bit. Mike whipped up some delicious Blue Notes and we went down quite a few side roads: the archives, The Band, Eric Clapton, Christian Ska Music. You know, the usual. We did talk about the album, though, I swear. Luke brought up the video for the title song. Russ really loved Twilight. Mike thought Coupe DeVille was perfect. We dip our feet into the Live from the Blue Note album just a tiny bit. We talk about the temptations of corporate sponsorship and how different genres use horns. All in all, it was a blast.

We've got like two albums left I think. Maybe only one. I don't even know anymore. The 80's are a never ending vortex. So yeah. We talk about Life. We drink. We laugh. We make jokes. It's an episode.

It's probably our most contentious episode yet! Wildly mixed reviews from the boys on this album. Luke thinks Neil pulls a Sully and lands it, but the other boys vehemently disagree. Russ comes in hot. He's not a fan of the drums and bass, and keeps trying to pick fights with Mike about 80's music. Mike sometimes takes the bait and sometimes doesn't. Mike likes the song Pressure but not much else. Luke, who in the past has said otherwise, comes out with a very favorable review of the whole album, but it might be just a hippie dream.

It's time to get back to the country with this episode, Youngsters. Luke whips up some Old-Ways-Old-Fashioned's while Russ mosie's on in in full cowboy regalia. We talk about Willie and Waylon and the International Harvesters. Mike brings up some unfortunate Neil quotes from the time and it sparks a lively discussion on religion, politics and how people can change. Luke can't get Larry David out of his head and there are several - and I mean SEVERAL - Sam Elliot impressions throughout this episode. It's Old Ways.

Everybody's Rockin', Youngsters! Well, maybe not everyone. It's an episode filled with a lotta' laughs, a few groans, and a few squawks from you know who. Our pal Laco returns to chime in on Neil's second Geffen record, and theorizes that perhaps this one was a gleeful middle finger of an album to a label overstepping it's role. Russ is kinda' fonda' this album, and Mike seems to be, too. Unfortunately it mostly just make's Luke cry, cry, cry. But at least he learns what Jellyroll means... It may not be for everyone, but Ronnie and Nancy sure got down to it. It's Everybody's Rockin'.

Get your vocoders out, youngsters, because we're talkin' Trans today! Neil's first album with Geffen records and oh boy is it something. Luke isn't wild about it, generally speaking. Mike and Russ have soft spots for it. We talk a little more about Neil's relationship with Ben coming through more than ever on some of these songs. Luke changes his opinion on Transformer man. Mike makes a new fruity drink. We get into a little tiff about the movie Signs because Mike is wrong about it. Mike defends the 80's against Russ's aggressive attacks. Luke shares a story about a corn maze. If things start to feel a little loose, don't worry: We R In Control. It's Trans, baby.

Youngsters! We did it! It's our 21st episode so our podcast can now legally drink! So Mike whipped us up some Evening Coconuts and we dove deep into Re-ac-tor. A lot of mixed feelings about certain songs, but in general everyone was way into this album. The horse is back with a fury. We fight over T-bone. Luke likes it. Mike thinks it's too long. Russ is somewhere in the middle. We talk about Neil's use of the synclavier. Luke isn't wild about Southern Pacific. We compare the version of Shots on this album to some of his live acoustic versions. We share our re-ac-tions to them. (See what I did there...) Overall, this episode ain't got no t-bone. Just mashed potatoes.

Youngsters! Can you believe it! We've reached 20 episodes! And what an episode it is! Hawks & Doves hit us all differently and boy do we get into it. We talk about Neil's odd love for Reagan at the beginning of the 80's. Mike brings up the struggle the Young's had with Ben in the early years, and all they went through to give him the best care they could. Russ is happy to have Ben Keith (BK) back in the mix. Luke wonders what the hell The Old Homestead is about, and throws out his top contenders for Youngster of The Year. A guest may or may not show up during a certain song. We talk about ourselves. A lot.

We had to postpone our normal format this week due to vacations, weddings and anniversaries all falling in the same three week period. But instead of not doing anything, we're letting the two dudes take over an episode! Luke and John (Friend of Nails) are obsessed with Stephen King. Like a disturbing amount. In this ep, they discuss the theory that perhaps Neil young and Stephen King are actually the same person. They get into the similarities between Jordy from Creepshow and Lionel from Human Highway. John talks about movies that still scare him and Luke talks about having to leave the theater no less than three times during a certain horror movie.

Since they're 87 percent the same - we also dive heavily into the Rust Never Sleeps movie during this episode as well. We bounce around more than usual on this one. It's not as chronological as most of the previous eps. We talk about massive amps and Neil's Jawas, or Road-eyes. Mike brings up the highly controversial fact that he prefers Star Trek to Star Wars. We talk about this album's version of Comes A Time verses the original. Luke hates Ska and ponders if Neil invented white reggae. He's also a bit drunk and sunburnt. Russ compares Luke's sunburn to many red things. Saralyn memes about it all.

It's gonna take a lotta love to get him more into it. Mike brings Whale Cake Beer. Russ calls Motorcycle Mama his guilty pleasure. Yes, we know it's a Stills-Young band album, but for crying out loud the name of our podcast is Long May You Young, so we figured we had no choice. Not gonna try and sugar coat it, this is a rough one. We talk about Still's drunkenly CB'ing Neil's tour bus and causing Neil to cancel the rest of the tour. Luke has a weird love for Midnight On The Bay. Mike suggests Neil invented Yacht Rock with this album. Chrome Dreams theories are discussed.
