First Act is a brand that almost nobody associates with a high quality instrument. We are used to seeing them in the Walmart toy section, not in the hands of professional touring musicians.

In the depths of lockdown, Pat Finnerty, a lifetime musician from Scranton, PA started making videos critiquing songs. I found him via a video he made where he was literally protesting Train's "Soul Sister".

This polarizing practice is so deeply integrated into music culture, and yet it is so frowned upon by a large swath of the music community. Is it ok? Is it terrible? Is it wasteful? Is it excessive?

I had Kai West on to dissect this issue a little bit further. Kai is a Musicologist and PhD candidate at the University of Michigan. He has extensively researched and studied electric guitar culture which of course includes the history of guitar smashing.

Peter Dankelson was born at 30 weeks and diagnosed with Goldenhar Syndrome. His Mom, Dede, kept a daily journal to update family and friends. This became known as "Pete's Diary" during the 102 days he was in the NICU.

Fast forward to now, Pete has underwent 37 surgeries, him and Dede have inspired thousands through motivational speaking and now he is pursuing his passion for guitar.

Put a fuzz circuit into a pizza enclosure. That is a simple thing to do right? Well... as it turns out... NO IT IS NOT.
