Stefan Sagmeister is a designer whose work over the years delighted and surprised people across the world. He started his studio in 1993 and worked predominantly in the music industry, creating album covers for the likes of The Rolling Stones, David Byrne and Brian Eno. And these are some of the key topics of our conversation – long-term thinking, beauty and happiness, but Stefan also offers insights as varied as believing that a team of three creatives would be enough to rebrand a whole country and that Twitter’s lack of beauty in its design, affects the nature of the conversations people are having on the platform. It was the opening of DePadova’s first branded space in the UK—in London’s Chelsea—that brought me and Lissoni together for what I thought will be a conversation about furniture, architecture, his latest projects, and new collections.
Instead, our discussion quickly started to revolve around concepts such as humanism and failure.
Lissoni quotes doubt, curiosity and passion as the key qualities of his practice. When asked about his most memorable projects he promptly responds that he doesn’t have any, as he is never happy with the final result. Instead, he’s driven by mistakes and the constant refinement of the architectural and design solutions. He likens himself to a wild animal, whose senses tell him immediately when a piece of work is aesthetically ‘dangerous’. That sensibility led him to design buildings such as The Middle House and Casa Fantini and objects for the likes of Alessi, Boffi, B&B, Flos, Kartell and Salvatori among others.
As our conversation nears the end, we touch on the subject of luxury and its meaning. Unfortunately, according to Lissoni, luxury has become vulgarised, associated with excessive wealth and flashy material possessions. Whilst for him – he’s a Milanese man after all – luxury is hidden in everyday qualities of life, good taste and his all-time favourite – curiosity.

“A house is so many more things than just the bricks and mortar. It’s a backdrop for your life.”
Albert Hill is the founder of the Modern House—an estate agency with a difference. One which is in the matchmaking business of finding sympathetic buyers for the most interesting houses in the UK.
In our conversation, we discuss Albert's career and transition from a Wallpaper* journalist to the property business owner and his memories of the Six Pillars House in Dulwich. We also dive into the ins and outs of creating a thoughtful brand and the market value of a well-designed property - from the Cube House by Carl Turner to Ross Lovegrove’s home and studio.
“When what you do is what you love it’s just wonderful doing that.” That was the start of my conversation with Beatie Wolfe – a musician, storyteller and an innovator.
Beatie always had a deep love of music, art, design and storytelling – creativity in every sense. She started writing songs at the age of seven. Also at that time, she found her parents’ vinyl collection. For her, these were musical books – a tangible gateway into the world of the album.
From then on, for Beatie, the music and its tangible and visual experiences were interconnected.
That’s how for her debut album 8ight she created a pioneering 3D Interactive Album App and also created a ‘Palm Top Theatre’ – a modern rendition of the 1980s viewfinder – on which you could watch 8ight’s interactive visuals filmed by Weavers Productions.
From then on, a technologically advanced portfolio of projects followed: The Montagu Square Musical Jacket, world’s first NFC Album Deck, beaming her album Raw Space into space as well as creating the world’s first live 360° AR experience, produced in collaboration with Nokia Bell Labs and Design I/O.
Listen to our conversation to find out more about Beatie's music, her multi-disciplinary innovations and her wish to foster daily 'ceremonies' and our connections with one another.

My conversation with Orsola de Castro and Kendall Robbins started with Orsola’s confession “I’m a recovering fashion designer”.
Whilst the Fashion Revolution’s campaign is a positive force for good, it’s a tragedy that inspired its existence. On 24 April 2013, 1134 people died in a collapse of the Rana Plaza factory complex in Bangladesh, with 90% of casualties being young girls, producing garments for the global consumer markets. A horrific event which could have been prevented made even worse through the fact that the clothes produced at the factory at the time still reached the consumers, who never realised the true cost of their new garments.
Listen to Orsola and Kendall's mission to change the fashion industry and learn how you can join the fashion revolution.

I met the gifted designer Brodie Neill at FORA Central Street, a stone’s throw from his London studio. Throughout our conversation, two things became quickly apparent – Brodie’s passion for materials—regardless of their origin or preciousness—and a strong belief in the circular economy.
He is also on a mission to raise awareness of the issue of plastic ocean waste. In our discussion, he points out that the issue of plastic is that of addiction and the wider concept of throwaway culture - the ease of use blinds us from seeing the alternative solutions. He also believes that the attitudes have to change, from those which perceive recycled products and materials as inferior and cheap to treat them as equally valuable and precious as the freshly-manufactured counterparts. An insightful listen and an inspiring voice in the wider circular design conversation.

In this episode of the Justyna Green podcast, I speak to Ferry van Tongeren and Jaap Sinke, co-founders of Fine Taxidermy. And if you've ever wondered how to stuff flamingo's neck, this episode is just for you.
