Swami Padmanabha is an author, monk and renowned practitioner of the ancient mystic tradition of Bhakti Yoga in America and Europe.
His versatility is displayed in different areas, being a prominent speaker, prolific musician, scholar in different disciplines and leader of spiritual communities.
He was born on November 15th in 1980, in a loving and simple family that gave him a formation with beautiful values and ideals. From a very tender age, a strong thirst in relation to truth and life´s ultimate purpose awakened in Swami, which led him to travel different paths.
His restless intellect led him to deep studies and contact with different ascetic disciplines. In this search he got in touch with the message of the Hindu Devotional Vedanta (also called bhakti), which would eventually become his spiritual path for life.
At the age of 19, Swami begins his priestly life and at the age of 28 he officially accepts the order of sannyasa, which teaches about how to move in the world without becoming attached to it.
Swami Padmanabha keeps developing and encouraging innumerable projects linked to philosophy, psychology, art, and, especially, he carries out a broad campaign of social awareness through multiple discussions, seminars, retreats and articles in social media. He is also engaged in academic circles.

Join Swami Padmanabha as he joins with friends, both Christian and Vaishnava, in the message carried by Jesus, “You are already being unconditionally loved by God.” Our spiritual practices, which are ideally and eventually everything we do, are meant to reciprocate with that love and not performed in order to convince God to love us. Both the teachings of Christianity and Gaudiya Vaishnavism are showing us again and again, “You are already the beloved of Him.”

RADICAL PERSONALISM: Revival Manifesto for Proactive Devotion.
Journey with Swami Padmanabha as he explores prayer not only as a practice but also as a state of being. This pilgrimage of prayer begins at the early stages of prayer, initially fueled by selfish necessity and the perception of oneself as separate from a wish-fulfilling god. This exploration culminates at the highest ideal of being prayer, tadatmya, which involves complete self-forgetfulness in divine love through mystical empathy. This state of being is characterized by putting aside all personal agendas, fully identifying with the needs of the beloved, and being willing to change, be transformed, and sacrifice—dedicated to what is going on in the heart of the beloved.
How can we prepare ourselves right now and right here where we are so we can approach that ideal in a realistic way? How can we actually walk in that direction? How can we pace ourselves with introspection and discernment so our journey is one of sustainable transformation and evolution?

RADICAL PERSONALISM: Revival Manifesto for Proactive Devotion.
Bhakti is relational. At the center of the center of everything is our relationship with Krishna. In the context of that relationship, there is the relationship between the guru and disciple. Ideally, the guru-disciple connection affords one of the most beautiful possibilities of deep affectionate loving friendship, yet, all too often the actualization of such an ideal falls short and sometimes even into the realm of abuse. And as beautiful as the guru-disciple relationship can be when both guru and disciple are working together, honoring their own responsibilities to nourish the ideal of divine love, it can be just as powerfully painful when that sacred bond is betrayed.
Before speaking about healing—healing trauma, healing abuse, healing pain, healing whatever may need to be healed—we first need to acknowledge what it is that actually needs to be healed. In other words, before solving the problem, we have to understand the problem and the misconceptions that support and even nourish the problems.
Join Swami Padmanabha as he navigates through the foundational truths of the guru-disciple relationship as understood and presented in scriptures and how contemporary misconceptions and misapplications of those truths have manifested as dysfunctional and abusive templates in the guise of something holy, and how each of those misconceptions can be redeemed by reconceiving our approach, by changing our angle of vision.

Join Swami Padmanabha and friends in Sri Mayapura as they explore how to embrace our eternal prospect of bhakti in a way that each step is “sustainable for eternity.” For this, we must develop some expertise in coexisting with our practice, our ideals, and our commitments in a way that is sustainable— normalized, healthy, inspiring—and not dysfunctional—guilt, shame, blame, anxiety, disturbance. trip, and not something in which we end up becoming more dysfunctional than what we were before starting the whole bhakti journey.
The discussion begins with a focus on the necessity to honestly acknowledge our condition in both in its messiness and that messiness in the context of being unconditionally loved by the Sweet Absolute. How we approach this dynamic directly and foundationaly affects our practice, and informs how we conceive other aspects of our spiritual journey, such as individuation, belonging rather than fitting in, and trusting while waiting.
The questions at the end of the class draw out further nuances through honest sharing.

Or can we integrate everything into a higher synthesis, into a higher equation of wholeness?

The analogy of the bouquet and the bonsai is one pointing to belonging or fitting in: do we want to merely become a bonsai version of ourselves—a trimmed, clipped, manicured, and miniaturized version of a potential giant? Or do we want to become an individuated flower in a beautiful bouquet of belonging, and offer that to Bhagavan, not having to stop being ourselves in order to fit in but knowing ourselves already fully accepted by the unconditional love of the Sweet Absolute and thus already fully belonging?

Join Swami Padmanabha in Sri Dhama Mayapura, the land of ultimate astonishment, as he explores how to preserve our sense of wonder and keep our practice alive in the unlimited depth, unlimited possibilities and openness by staying in touch with the nature of reality which is itself ever-unfolding, ever-evolving, and therefore, ever-inviting us to a permanent sense of wonder.
“Rasa sara camatkara,” is an expression that reveals the liveliness of camatkara and the central place it has in the Gaudiya perspective. Rasa is itself something essential—mellow, aesthetic rapture, the juice of life. This verse expresses the essence of that essence of rasa as camatkara—wonder or astonishment is the essence of the juice of life. And Krishna is known as Rasaraja, the King of Rasa, and therefore, the King of Astonishment.
Swami Padmanabha connects wonder organically with a discussion of mystery, uncertainty and toxic certainty that is uniquely offered by Gaudiya Vaishnavism.

Swami Padmanabha discusses the difference between love-based belonging and fear-based fitting-in and what has to be in place to establish belonging.
The topic sparked many questions as devotees deeply considered the difference between and implications of fitting-in and belonging, sharing their doubts about their own approach to their tradition: “How does a person who was born into a spiritual movement know that what they are experiencing is a feeling of belonging and not just a familiarity, just going along because that is all they have ever known—following a religious tradition rather than choosing a spiritual life.
“The relief of sadhu sanga does not come from feeling we have hidden ourselves very well from them. The relief from sadhu sanga comes from knowing that they know how much of a mess we are and they continue to love us, not only in spite of that messiness, but because of that.”

Join Swami Padmanabha as he explores the living realm of prayer—what prayer is and what it is not, and how prayer is an invitation to meet the person behind the theological concept of God.
From Radical Personalism: Revival Manifesto for Proactive Devotion:
“…contemplative prayer is not limited to certain specific actions, nor does it constitute a mere recital of prayers. It mostly has to do with whatever we may happen to be doing in a prayerful mood. Prayer is ultimately a mood, a stance, a realm, and not a one-act performance or occasional weekend ritual. Real prayer—contemplative prayer—is a way of life to be thoroughly assimilated through dedication and practice. It is something with the potential of becoming second nature. It is something with the potential of becoming not only a genuine source of shelter and divine revelation, but a part of our very identity. In other words, contemplative prayer is not so much something you do, but something you are.

A recurring question and therefore a shared concern during Swami Padmanabha’s visit to Switzerland, is asked regarding the relationship between love of God and love of our friends, family and all life. It is posed that it is easier to love God because he doesn’t have an ego. Swami considers how God not having an ego might make loving him even more challenging.
Additionally, how can we say we love God and treat each other so horribly.
Also discussed is the idea of perfection being everywhere as spoken by Srila Sridhara Maharaja, “Perfection is everywhere. The trouble is that with our limited thinking we have produced a world of limits.”
Another topic explored is the struggle for the sadhaka to deal with the discrepancies of the early stages of bhakti—between where we are and where we want to be as far as aligning our behavior with our ideals. How can we coexist with that discrepancy so that we don’t torture ourselves by that nor grow complacent? We can be thankful that we are not cheating ourselves into thinking we are doing everything perfectly…because we are not. To acknowledge that and hold onto the gifts that are continually coming - that is heroic.
Tune is for the discussion.

Pierre Teilhard de Chardin wisely noted that, "We are not human beings having a spiritual experience; we are spiritual beings having a human experience." This is expressed in its fullest reach in lila, where being fully human and fully divine are fully integrated and humanness is part of one’s eternal identity. As bhakti is not a means to an goal, there is a place to consider form not just as a means, a vehicle, but rather part of the goal: to not stop being human but to be FULLY HUMAN in context of our spirituality.
Although the atma is not human, but rather consciousness, in perfection, being infused by bhakti shakti, it will be given an identity of human form to participate in lila. As practitioners we are meant to embrace our humanity in the context of our practice, and our practice in fully consideration of our humanity, neither pursuing one in exclusion of the other, but always united both in one pursuit.
From now until nara-lila, it is all about humanity and the only way to reach that experience in lila is to start here.

Because of the nondual foundation of the Sweet Absolute, all of his incarnations are different forms of the same person, different aspects of himself in reciprocation with the love of each devotee. We can understand avatars as being different emotional moments of Bhagavan.
Swami Padmanabha poetically draws out how each of 10 avatars of Bhagavan are displayed by Mahaprabhu. From Matsya to Kalki, Mahaprabhu expressed each of those emotions at one time or another.
Being the Appearance day of Vamanadeva, further detail is shared regarding Vamanadeva, known as the Dwarf Avatar, his relationship with Bali Maharaja, and additionally the disciple’s aspiration to remain committed to truth, even if that means rejecting their guru—as Bali rejected Sukracharya because Sukracharya advised Bali to take action against his truth and integrity.
As Bali Maharaja offers his own head in service, he beautifully displays the devotional quality of atmanivedanam, offering one’s self in our full unique service capacity.
In the beginning, when first meeting Vamanadeva, Bali Maharaja was unaware that Vamanadeva was his worshipful Lord. So one might wonder what occurs in a sadhaka’s life that allows them to recognize the active presence of the Divine. One aspect is to keep your eye on the bigger picture and become aware of any patterns that have lead you to the place you are today, how everyone has a purpose. It is in connecting with the purpose of events, we can connect with the person who is behind them.

The more we conceive of God as atmarama, self-satisfied, the less we feel ourselves in service to the Supreme Personality. And the more we understand that Atmarama as being immersed in an experience of love that creates its own set of intense needs, then the more opportunities the sevaka will have to offer themselves in service.

Join in the celebration of the celebratory movements of Divinity as they express the fullness of personhood exchanged through love.
In today’s honoring of Lalita Sakhi and her special role in both Krishna-lila and her expansion into Gaura-lila, many facets of radical personalism were discussed in nuanced ways:
• How much do we relate with divine persons as persons, rather than merely to concepts, or ideas that exist beyond the clouds.
• If we approach Divinity as a passive concept and do not go beyond the collection of technical information about him/her/them, so that the information transforms into a relationship, then we are missing the potential and highest reach of that knowledge.
• How love without suffering is not love, and how to understand this in a way that makes us embrace the possibility rather than run from love
• It is our responsibility to make the needs of those we serve our needs
• How the psychology of Lalita Sakhi plays a unique and crucial role in her serving the necessity of the Divine Couple
• Lalita Sakhi is the acarya of “creative tension”
• As sadhakas we can approach our lives in the same way by allowing our problems to be moments of creativity, an invitation to redefine our conception of life; how we conceive of things—obstacles, certainty, suffering, vulnerability, humanity, divinity, love

Swami Padmanabha speaks about the importance of unifying what we consider our "spiritual" life and our "worldly" life. Everything is interconnected and exists in relationship with other things. An important aspect of life is to integrate our spirituality with our humanity—these two are not opposite, but rather, perfectly compatible. Spiritual practice means to awaken to the reality that everything is connected.
Bhakti is not something we do, but how we live our lives.

Tune in as Swami Padmanabha offers three ways to approach the Srimad Bhagavatam: literally, interpretively and esoterically. And futher draws lessons applicable to practitioners thru an interpretive approach to 3 specific lilas revealed in the Srimad Bhagavatam:
DAMODARA-LILA, from which among many lessons held there, we are able to get a glimpse into the paradox of how being tied can actually increase one's freedom, and how this, in turn, can teach us how to approach rules so that we are not bound by them, but rather experience more freedom through them. Additionally and very importantly, this lila demonstrates that unconditional love does not demand perfection. "First become perfect, and then I will love you" That is not unconditional love; that is ridiculous.
GOVARDHANA-LILA, from which we can learn, among many things, how to navigate the storms of our lives, and to be open to the shape of shelter that might differ from our expectations.
RASA-LILA, from which we can catch a glimpse of the mysterious unfolding of our own spiritual journey. The path of love is crooked, and these curves create blindspots. There are times when it appears that we are farther than ever from God, as if the Divine has just disappeared from our lives. But is that the case, or is he closer than ever?

Join Swami Padmanabha as he dips into the paradox of knowing through unknowing. How much can we know of an unlimited Divine Person who is constantly and continually becoming more himself in love. To think we know god because we have some information about him, even highly detailed information, is not the end of, and may not even have anything to do with, developing a transformed heart.
God is the ultimate mystery and we have to be ok with mystery and not driven by a need for certitude, to cancel darkness and liminality. For most, mystery is to be solved, closed so that our vulnerabilities need not be disclosed.
Certitude stifles our progress. Co-existing with Mystery creates the space for spontaneous wonder, adventure and discovery.

RADICAL PERSONALISM: Revival Manifesto for Proactive Devotion.
Radical Personalism means to relate in personal terms to everything, with everyone—beginning with ourselves—and our connection to the Divine. There’s no limit in how much of a person we can be. Now is the time to inquire into the Absolute, the Divine and the soul. And “now” speaks of not only having a human vehicle, but the necessity and preliminary stage of having our humanity in place, of behaving as fully human as possible so that we may be as fully spiritual as possible.
Join in the conversation which reverses the misconception that the more spiritual you are then the less human you have to be. As humans, we have double homework: we are already spiritual, but how much are we aware of our spiritual identity and our prospect and potential? We have a human vehicle, but what are we doing with the vehicle? How much is that translated into humanity, to human character, to human relationships. Our ongoing challenge is to integrate the two—fully human and fully divine.

“The unlimited Supreme Personality of Godhead, who had assumed the form of Vāmana, then began increasing in size, acting in terms of the material energy, until everything in the universe was within His body, including the earth, the planetary systems, the sky, the directions, the various holes in the universe, the seas, the oceans, the birds, beasts, human beings, the demigods and the great saintly persons.”

The beautiful necessity of bringing questions to the table opened the sharing in this istagosthi. Without sincere inquiry—which is more about disclosure than a quest for facts—there would be no Bhagavad-gita. Krishna would have said a few lines and that would have been the end of it. But because Arjuna—as well as Pariksit in the Bhagavatam and many others—revealed his doubts, his brokenness, his despair, not only did it allow Krishna to address our shared human predicament, but he also established that vulnerable disclosure of one’s heart—emotions and thoughts—is the currency of reciprocal revelation. Turning to Bg. 9.30, Krishna explains that, although we may have very bad behavior, but are determined to love him exclusively, then we are saintly already, being honest about where we are. That honesty is saintliness—bringing our brokenness to the table and trusting God's love and unconditional acceptance of how we are right now. This is personalism.
However, although in name being personalists, we sometimes behave in depersonalized ways through our actions.
Tune in as the group discusses some ways we show up impersonally in four relationships in our daily lives:
—with ourselves
—with others
—with the world
—with god
And join in the conversation by sharing in the comments other ways we show up impersonally in these relationships.
“How can we be all that we can be today—not tomorrow, but today—as living emblems of devotion, and then facilitate that epiphany in others? What are the fullest implications of being a person, and, even more so, what are the implications of God being a person? What is the highest prospect for these two uniquely personal beings when they relate to each other through love, the most personal of all fundamental interactions?
This is Radical Personalism.”
RADICAL PERSONALISM: Revival Manifesto for Proactive Devotion.
In this class, Swami Padmanabha addresses a current collective belief within the Gaudiya community that this created world and everything in it is mundane, profane, bad and must be rejected. This perspective colors how we approach every aspect of our lives—how we relate with divinity, the world, our family, our body, mind and emotions; how we love, who we love, if we love—morphing the prospect of bhakti from seeing God everywhere through proper acceptance and integration to seeing God no where through abject rejection and evacuation. That’s not bhakti; that is something else. The proposal is Radical Personalism, exploring how personal we are in relation to this world, tt the realm of matter.
As Gaudiyas who have a goal of entering nara-lila where Krishna is being very human and fully divine, we have to do something with our humanity right here and now. Considering that every corner of this world is the potential birthplace of the Kingdom of God, going “there” does not necessitate “leaving here,” but rather continually arriving.
For Krishna, there is no distinction between matter and spirit. He affirms this world as an overflow of his joy, and enters into each atom, making each unit of creation an embassy of the Lord. Additionally, he chooses to come to Earth to stage his lila eternally, and asks all of his friends and most dear associates join him. So how bad could it really be?
How do we harmonize a statement such as “This world is temporary and miserable” with “The whole universe is an abode of joy”?
This and other questions by participants are sensitively responded to, such as:
-Does love in this world have any value?
-What do we do with statements portraying Maya shakti as a witch
RADICAL PERSONALISM: Revival Manifesto for Proactive Devotion.
Join Swami Padmanabha and a group of inquisitive and receptive participants in this many-branched discussion that not only moved within the topic of nondual thinking and learning from traditions other than one's own, but was actually an organic demonstration of these principles in motion.
RADICAL PERSONALISM: Revival Manifesto for Proactive Devotion.
Join Swami Padmanabha as he explores the limit—or lack of limit—as to how much we can become persons.
Is the self like an onion, the more layers we remove, the less there is to find? Or does something else happen in relation to the self—is there more, or less, when layers of temporary designations are removed?
Although we are persons, how much of an individual are we? how much of a personalist are we?
Tune in…
RADICAL PERSONALISM: Revival Manifesto for Proactive Devotion.
Join Swami Padmanabha, Jaya Jagannatha and Tamala Krishna as they share their perspective on Sri Guru, the disciple and the deeply penetrating relationship between the two, drawing from ancient stories and teachings as well as their own experiences, making those teachings relatable and relevant to us today.
RADICAL PERSONALISM: Revival Manifesto for Proactive Devotion.
Swami Padmanabha explores the Nondual perspective of Divinity and how having a nondual perspective is crucial in the unfolding of ourselves as persons in deep relationship with other persons, including the Supreme Person. If we do not have our appreciation of the Sweet Absolute’s nondual reality in place, then we may start to see the Absolute in dual terms. And that’s a problem. Perceiving an over-localized god who exists in one form only, in one place only, effects our relationship with God, with the world, with each other and our own self, promoting sectarianism and exclusivity, building walls and borders and boundaries.
Tune-in to hear the implications and misconceptions surrounding the reality of nondual Gaudiya Vedanta.
RADICAL PERSONALISM: Revival Manifesto for Proactive Devotion.
Swami Padmanabha begins an exploration of Revolutionary Spirituality with a quote from his book, RADICAL PERSONALISM: Revival Manifesto for Proactive Devotion. "Although this book addresses relative necessities, such as updating the language we employ to convey ancient concepts in postmodern times, it mainly tries to encourage the development of a spirit willing to keep up with the pace of transcendence. Transcendence is unlimited, which means we’re called to ever new horizons of understanding. We’re to keep pace with an ever-evolving reality that we are part of, with an ever-evolving God we are tied to, and, thereby, with an ever-evolving tradition through which these very principles are revealed to us. Thus, the tradition needs to remain ever-evolving if it’s to accurately represent an ever-evolving proposal such as (among other divine portals) Gaudiya Vaishnavism."
What´s Radical Personalism All About?
June 30th, 2023
As the Radical Personalism Tour begins, Swami Padmanabha begins to explain the origins, meaning and implication of being radically personal.
Swami Padmanabha joins Vaishnava Voices Podcast to talk about his new book RADICAL PERSONALISM: Revival Manifesto for Proactive Devotion, and how he personally dealt with the question: "Should I stay or should I go?" in moments of crisis.
Guaranteed to be of interest and import for those within the tradition and those who are presently outside any institution but still feel some affinity for the essence of their tradition.
