On this episode Juliet is in conversation with Swedish wildlife artist Per Ekros.
Always fascinated by faces, expressions and bodies, animals are an intrinsic part of Per Ekros's life, and they form naturally and intuitively as the subject matter of his artworks. His heart lies within the animal kingdom and our consumption of their environments, which impacts him deeply and the psychology of this is a reflection of this.
The podcast discusses his series of polar bear portraits from the 2021 series The King without a Kingdom and how Per captures emotional response through his selection of material and media. His approach to a reductive painting style enables the characterisation of his chosen animal to be simplified within the composition which provides an emotional intensity in his painting.
Current works from the To The Ark series are exhibited at the Nordic Art Agency gallery during the Summer Exhibition and a solo exhibition of Per Ekros's painting will be held in the gallery from September 21st - November 16th 2024.

Sara Berman describes her paintings as ‘a dialogue between painting and textiles' and joins Juliet on the podcast to breakdown her works and the 'uncomfortable nooks of the female bodily experience' found in her self portraits.
Originally from London, Sara Berman studied at St. Martins School of Art & Design and later took a Masters of Fine Art at Slade School of Art. Her work can be found in notable international collections, and she has exhibited extensively in solo and group exhibition, currently represented by Vielmetter in Los Angeles.
Sara describes her paintings as ‘a dialogue between painting and textiles.’
With a background both in fashion and art, Sara brilliantly creates a game of materiality in her large scale compositions in oil on canvas.
The conversation is very much based around the female experience and touches on every aspect of how Sara personally operates in the world and how this is represented in her work. Her experiences are reflected through the character of the Trickster Whore and the use of the Harlequin as a starting point for all her paintings.

On this podcast episode Juliet is joined by British paper and written text artist Caroline Attan. Her works are instantly intriguing and striking using organic visual representations in order to merge folded paper with poetry, paradox and metaphors. The concepts and compositions in her artworks collide as coloured, patterned and folded structures, together create a woven and textual narrative.
Her picture mainly consists of dense circular composition of folded shapes rotating along side, and above hand written poetry. Caroline frequently selects extracts from Latin American poetry, which is where the cultural significance comes into play. This is reflected in context and language the elements of the poetry are interpreted through colour, form and rhythm. Her works also utilizes literary extracts by authors such as James Joyce to inspire her compositions.
A series of works by Caroline Attan are currently included in the exhibition CLAY, INK, PAPER at the Nordic Art Agency gallery. You can view all works online in the digital exhibition catalogue.

British visual artist Rupert Hartley trained originally in printed textile design at the Glasgow School of Art and later went on to take his MA in Art in Architecture at University of East London. The grid or square blocks and stripes are the formulaic language which dominates much of his work along side his commitment to colour, layering of paint and mixed media. Rupert works on a varied selection of ground materials including cardboard, repurposed fabrics and stretch and unstretched canvas.

For our final episode of season 2 we are looking to the future of the art world and are joined by the Co-Founder of Nfinitymark Kirsten Hinder.
Kirsten Hinder's art-tech company is bridging the gap between analogue art and the digital crypto art space with an exciting technology that creates a digital signature for physical artwork, enabling it to exist on the blockchain.
NFTs (non-fungible tokens) have been around since 2017 but following the recent Christie's auction in Asia, where NFT sales reached over 100 Million dollars, the digital art space has become more present and more relevant to artists, art collectors and gallerists.
On the podcast Kirsten helps to decode this new art space and explores how a digital record of provenance and artists records can add value to art work and become a valuable digital asset alongside the physical artwork. You can view some of the artists, galleries and collectors already working with this art tagging technology over on Nfinitymark's instagram.
The Nordic Art Agency is delighted to be collaborating with Nfinitymark as the first gallery in Sweden to tag all artwork sold in our International Spring Art Pop Up in 2022.

This is the second episode in our two-part special Sculpture Series. On this podcast Juliet is in conversation with British bronze expert, restorer and conservator Lucy Branch.
Lucy comes from a family of restorers and art historians and is incredibly passionate about bronze public statues, sculpture and historical architectural features. Her education, knowledge and experience is vast and she shares her understanding of metals, chemistry, research and practical elements which all are part of her work as a accredited member of the Institute of Conservations.
Her work as a Director at Antique Bronze has led her to run high profile conservation projects such as Nelson's Column, Buckingham Palace and the Queen Victoria Memorial.
As well as her invaluable work with public statues and sculpture she is also a successful published author of a series of art history based fiction novels, which are credited as Adventures for Art Lovers, and nonfiction bronze related publications.
Lucy is also the host of the Sculpture Vulture podcast and has worked on sculptures by both Simon Gudgeon and Hugh Chapman who are represented by the Nordic Art Agency.
This is the first in a two part series on sculpture and sculpture conservation and restoration.
We are introducing British emerging sculptor Hugh Chapman. This is a raw and honest introduction into the artist's journey of Hugh. His conceptual work is engaging and incredibly emotive. His sculptural forms are complex with elegant waxing modern patinas which feel luxurious and organic.
Our conversation is an investigation into the challenges faced by a sculptor and how partnerships with foundries and experts in restoration and conversation are incredibly important to the completion of projects and maintenance of works.
You can view Hugh Chapman's work on his artist's page on our website and all the sculptures discussed by Hugh and Henry Moore, Tony Cragg, Anish Kapoor and Antony Gormley will be featured on our Nordic Art Agency Instagram.
Hugh's work will be unveiled at our Winter Art Pop Up at Hansa which launches in November and you can follow Hugh Chapman on Instagram to view more works.
On this podcast episode, Juliet introduces emerging British abstract artist Victoria Curling Eriksson. Landscapes dominate Victoria’s paintings and her compositions are minimal with multiple fine layers of oil which develop the depth of colour and emotive modus of her work.
Her paintings relate to simple motifs with polychromatic tones, gently graduating from one colour band to another. Fields and seascapes dominate the painting and the horizontal orientation of the canvas lends itself to the vertical undulating layers of colour and texture.
Follow Victoria Curling Eriksson on Instagram and view her next series of landscape paintings at our Winter Art Pop Up as part of our Hansa Loves Art concept, opening in November.
Both the Nordic Art Agency and Victoria will be exhibiting at the Affordable Art Fair 2021 in Stockholm, from 13th - 17th October, so access your complimentary Private View and Art After Work tickets now online.
Images of work referred to in the podcast by Victoria can be viewed on the Nordic Art Agency instagram.

Five paintings by Frédéric Blaimont will also be shown in the small gallery during the Interior Souls exhibition.
Studio Response: [#1] a new exhibition at the prestigious Saatchi Gallery in London, which opened this week, featuring our exclusive artists Jo Hummel and Sara Dare. The exhibition is free and will be open until September 9th, well worth a visit!
This episode features Eric Grech as the voice of French figurative artist Frédéric Blaimont. It is the first time we have experimented with our podcast guest being represented as an actor and the whole experience was quite interesting!
Frédéric Blaimont is an observer of the everyday characters who are found in the banalest of situations. Anonymous figures emerged through his painting as he remains curious about his contemporaries.
His paintings will allow you to leisurely criticise the supposed delinquencies, flaws, and inconsistencies found in society. In contrast, the paintings feel smooth, almost delicately and restfully executed. The subdued pastel palettes, plain backgrounds, and monochromatic play make the figures almost feel poetic.
Frédéric paintings are profiles of accuracy, with a subtle dusting of condemnation. He captures men and women; exploring our relationships with bodies, with food, and the unavoidable issue of excess and overconsumption.
Find Frédéric Blaimont on Instagram and on the @nordicartagencypodcast where we have featured several of the works discussed in the podcast.
We are delighted to represent Frédéric Blaimont exclusively at the Nordic Art Agency and look forward to exhibiting a series of images at the Nordic Art Agency in our exhibition Interior Souls launching at the end of August 2021.
Our guest on this episode of the podcast is the Director of the Copenhagen Photo Festival 2021. We are currently facing a cultural battle as the global pandemic has left the consumption of art in galleries, museums and exhibitions in very uncharted waters.
The Copenhagen Photo Festival, which was hosted between June 3th - June 13th, launched at a time when Copenhagen city had only very recently reopened after an extended lockdown. The Director of the Copenhagen Photo Festival, Maja Dyrehauge Gregersen joins Juliet in conversation to explore the philosophy behind the festival, the uncertainty which faced the launch of the exhibition this year due to the pandemic, and the institutional challenges which are impacting the art world in general.
The successes of the festival very much lie within its ethos of inclusivity, connectivity and the offering of a shared global immersive experience. How we currently consume culture is discussed as well as the six participants in this year's solo exhibition, and the galleries, art institutions and museums partnering with the festival.
Offical Partner events and exhibitions are continuing until 29th August and you can discover more of what is available to visit.
The Nordic Art Agency is currently exhibiting and a photographic exhibition by Natalie Christensen, Semblances of Boundaries & Thresholds at our Malmö gallery until the end of July. You can view this exhibition's digital catalogue and recent virtual gallery event online.
View images from the Copenhagen Photo Festival by visiting our Instagram @nordicartagencypodcast and or follow the @nordicartagency gallery on Instagram.
A slight departure from the normal guests we invite on this episode of the podcast. Rather than an artist or an art influencer, we are in conversation with visual influencer Niki Brantmark, founder of the phenomenally successful award-winning blog MyScandinavianHome.com and best-selling author of three interior and lifestyle publications.
MyScandinavianHome.com is a daily blog with over half a million page views per month and 360K followers on Instagram. Over the past decade, the blog has featured homes and interiors from all over the Nordics providing a visual feast of the Scandinavian aesthetic.
Art and interiors function in parallel to enhance the environment and experience within a home. Niki shares her understanding and experience surrounding lighting, materials, colour pallets which define the Nordic interiors and very much the Scandinavian approach to life.
Placing art in a home is as important as understanding the light sources, flow and function of a space and we hope this conversation provides some inspiration from Scandinavia, via two British ex-pats!

Tom Lohner's paintings are very much like the artist himself, bold, dynamic, entertaining and fearless. During a whirlwind art career over the last twenty years, Austrian pop surrealist artist Tom Lohner has achieved huge success as a painter, a creative brand, as a gallery owner, and most recently as a creator of the first NFTs to placed in a museum collection.
In this podcast we discuss Tom's artist journey, his collaboration with Hard Rock Cafe, The Baker House Gallery and Jaguar cars. He also walks us through his creative practice and how his multidimensional approach to his artistry has enabled an evolution in his painting style and artist's brand.
You can follow Tom Lohner on Instagram and also view his website. Discover more about the Baker House Gallery and discover more about their exhibitions and location in Graz.
Tom Lohner's zest for life, music and art is infectious and this conversation hopefully is inspiring for young emerging artists.
Spanish artist Bea Sarrias is obsessed with the architecture that surrounds her in her home city of Barcelona and the iconic international modernist and rationalist architects.
Bea paints portraits of spaces and not buildings and the elements of composition, light and shade and perspective are essential to her painting practice in order to create the soul and narrative of the architecture found in her work.
As a recent addition to the Nordic Art Agency's stable of artists, Bea is our first non-figurative or abstract artist. This podcast seeks to understand why, following her studies in Fine Art at the University of Barcelona, architecture has been her preferred and only subject matter.
With commission projects for Nato Headquarters in Brussels and numerous international solo exhibitions, Bea is an established artist who works hard to continuously evolve her approach to colour, composition and understanding of industrial design and architecture.
Follow Bea Sarrias on her Instagram and view her artist's profile on the Nordic Art Agency website.
Images of iconic buildings and paintings by Bea discussed on the podcast can be viewed on our @nordicartagencypodcast Instagram account.
Exciting British abstract painter and installation artist Sara Dare is the guest on this episode of the podcast.
Sara Dare typically works on a large-scale using paper, linen and canvas combined with a range of mediums, selected for their viscosity and finish, such as ink, oil, emulsion and acrylic.
Her paintings seek an evocative experience or visceral negotiation with the viewer, initially playful or peaceful followed by a sense of unease or tension. Connecting to her painting on a physical or emotional level can also lead to a sense of unsettlement. Sara confesses in our conversation to almost sabotaging elements of beauty or perfection in favour of an authentic, human and historical practice developed through her use of colour, brushwork and material.
The Nordic Art Agency is delighted to represent Sara Dare exclusively in Scandinavia and you can view more of her work over on her Instagram.
We shall be exhibiting Sara Dare's painting at our Spring Art Pop Up at Hansa from April 30th - May 30th where we shall feature a new series of nine artworks alongside other international painters.
Follow the Nordic Art Agency gallery on Instagram to discover more about our artists and exhibitions. We would also love for you to rate our podcast so that more people can find us and learn more about the international contemporary artists that we represent.
In this episode, we were delighted to be joined by Alexandra Fried and Alexandra Herlitz who, together, host the podcast Konsthistoriepodden a Swedish Art History podcast. Both are currently senior lecturers at Gothenburg University in the department of Cultural Science specialising in specific periods of Art History.
The Konsthistorienpodden discusses the process, ownership and reception of well-known artworks and covers a diverse roster of artists from a broad spectrum of time periods. Most of all, it reveals the unknown twists and tales that lay behind many of the lives of the artists and their acclaimed artworks.
In our conversation, we discuss the value of understanding or being able to deconstruct artworks of historical importance and how that impacts how we view contemporary art. We also explore the importance of the narrative behind contemporary and historical artists and the value of historical art in modern culture and society.
You can listen to the Konsthistorienpodden on most podcast platforms. Also, you can follow Alexandra Fried and Alexandra Herlitz and their insightful podcast and discover more art history adventures on Instagram and on Facebook.

Architecture is the main subject matter of her images as she is intrigued by line, form, structure and what lies beyond the edges of an image. Her photographs deliver vibrant narratives that are both uplifting and reflective.
Natalie Christensen exhibits in Europe and the US and was one of five invited photographers at The National: Best of Contemporary Photography, Fort Wayne Museum of Art and was recently named one of “Ten Photographers to Watch” at the Los Angeles Center for Digital Art.

Welcome to the wonderful (and slightly alternative) world of Danish photographer Lars Daniel.
Lars Daniel is always joyfully reasserting and contradicting initial responses to his photography, and this conversation is no different.
As a conceptual photographer, Lars Daniel sees the human form and the environment in which they exist in his images as otherworldly, dreamlike and somewhat removed from reality. All literal meaning is therefore lost and any alternative view is open to be experienced. The BIG SLEEP series, Cultural Baggage II and Freedom & Happiness are all images which intrigue and require contemplation.
You can view Lars Daniel's and current installation at HANSA Malmö on the second floor as part of are HANSA LOVES ART concept until the end of November 2020.
All prints are available in a limited edition of 10 + 1 AP printed on matte Hahnemühle paper, mounted & framed in handcrafted, dark solid smoked oak frames and available to view and purchase online. Contact the gallery for complimentary international shipping.
British artist Christabel Blackburn won Sky Art's Portrait Artist of the Year earlier in 2020 with her minimal and stripped back contemporary portraiture style. Christabel's compositions typically include flat planes of colour, architectural aspects, simplistic interiors with limited details balancing of context, reduction and intimacy.
In the podcast, she discusses her journey as an artist and her recent experience painting music legend Nile Rodgers, founder of the 70s band Chic, which now hangs in the Royal Albert Hall in London.
A must watch is the brilliant final of Sky Art's Portrait of the Year, which was an incredible event, filmed in the National Portrait Gallery in London.
We are delighted that Christabel Blackburn has recently joined the Nordic Art Agency and we will exhibit three of her works in our exhibition FACES//PLACES which opens on Friday, October 9th in our Malmö gallery.

Catherine Ludeau is a French abstract artist who works within a minimalist style in resin on canvas. Her career as a designer and artist has spanned over many decades and has evolved in recent years to a pure reduction of natural elements informed by the practice of Zen, repetition and instinctive emotional responses.
Currently in her studio in Paris, Catherine shares her painting process and how resin has informed her recent bodies of work.

In this episode of the Nordic Art Agency Podcast we are in conversation with Munich based abstract artist Frederic Paul. We signed Frederic Paul to the Nordic Art Agency Gallery in 2018 having connected with his whimsical, emotive paintings with tonal graduation and elements of layered three-dimensionality.
Heavily influenced by his roots in Asia, Frederic Paul represents a fresh, entrepreneurial approach to his career as an artist and painter showing considerable maturity, despite being in his 20s, and has complete conviction in his creative practice and use of materials.
Having exhibited in numerous solo and groups exhibition in the UK, the US and extensively in Europe, we are delighted to be welcoming Frederic Paul to exhibit at the Nordic Art Agency in Malmö this August-September, in his first solo exhibition in Scandinavia. BLOOM will be a continuation of his positive, vibrate and uplifting mixed media paintings incorporating oil, acrylic and hand-torn Chinese Rice Paper. Follow Frederic Paul on Instagram and you can also view one of his recent studio time-lapses here.
We are delighted to represent Frederic Paul exclusively in the Nordics.
In this episode, we are in conversation with the young British figurative artist Molly Brocklehurst who is based in South London. Molly graduated with a Masters in Fine Art from Wimbledon College of Arts in 2019 winning the Wimbledon Alumni Professional Award and was a finalist in the 2020 Signature Art Prize.
She hit the British art scene in brilliant fashion last year being named as one of Saatchi Arts Rising Stars of 2019 and exhibiting in February 2020 in the Maddox Gallery in Mayfair, London.
We are all about supporting fresh, talented, international female artists at the Nordic Art Agency and Molly is an exciting artist to watch.
In the podcast, Molly discussed the historical and nostalgic utopia depictions explored in her work as she gives new life to images uncovered in old black and white photographs discovered in flea markets or antique fairs. Rituals and ceremonies, costume and theatre also play a role in her striking muted pastel-painted canvases.
We are currently featuring two of Molly's paintings in our HANSA LOVES ART International Art Pop Up until July 25th 2020. Both works, Intrusion and Colony, are featured in our current digital exhibition catalogue and on our website.

Simon Gudgeon is one of Britain’s leading contemporary sculptors, possibly best known for the striking three-meter-tall bronze sculpture Serenity which stands on the shores of the Serpentine lake in London’s Hyde Park.
His career, in his words, has been "a series of very happy accidents", which has led to his monumental sculpture being featured in prominent international private collections and impressive public art placements.
Simon is also the founder of Sculpture By The Lakes, a stunning park located in Dorset, England which is an abundance of nature, wildlife and sculpture. Recently, as the park is currently closed, Simon has been documenting the walkways, viewpoints, gardens and artworks in a series of personal and informative videos which are available to view online.
In our conversation, Simon shares his journey as a painter and sculptor and how his childhood, filled with impressions from countryside and nature, inspired his artist's process and subject matter.
We shall be exhibiting three of Simon's sculptures in bronze, Luna, Bird of Happiness and Search For Enlightenment at our HANSA LOVES ART pop up at HANSA Malmö, which opens on 20th May - 27th June.
View Simon Gudgeon's artist page to view all three sculpture and larger works in situ. The Nordic Art Agency are delighted to exclusively represent Simon in the Scandinavia.
Chelsea Davine is a British abstract artist who, over her twenty-year career, has created a mixed media painting practise which is a pure reflection of nature, balance and light. She finds inspiration from the coast, the sea, the lines that criss-cross the landscape and mountainscapes.
As an artist, she is passionate about the material she obsesses over whether it be metal, oil, gold leaf or linen and during our conversation she explores how her artist practice has changed during the lockdown confinement in Barcelona, where her family and studio are based.
The art market is currently in unchartered territory as we record this podcast and it's fascinating to hear Chelsea Davine reflections, and in some ways, the much-needed regression and stillness that has occurred in her life as an artist, as all of a sudden everything has been simplified.
We also invite Chelsea Davine to discuss the works which will be exhibited at HANSA LOVES ART, our forthcoming Art Pop Up in Malmö which opens on Wednesday, May 20th.
You can check out Chelsea Davine on Instagram and on her website and over on her artist's page at the Nordic Art Agency.
Pablo de Gortari is a flamboyant and gregarious figurative contemporary portrait painter from Mexico City.
By mixing skills from illustration, animation and painting, his work combines the spontaneity of sketches with the delicacy of painting.
Art for Pablo has always been a way to escape reality and his images and palettes are strongly influenced by fantasy and mythical elements.
The characterisation of each portrait is Pablo's main focus; showcasing emotions and state of mind as each figurative work exists almost within their own unique narrative. Inspired by Spanish portraiture from the 1600s Pablo brings his unique surrealist contemporary interpretation.
In our conversation, Pablo reflects how life now, being based in a studio in Stockholm, has impacted his work, technique and aesthetic.
Follow Pablo on Instagram and view his works in progress and studio images on his website.
View Pablo de Gortari's artist page over on the Nordic Art Agency website where you can view the works discussed, Leonor, Pernilla with the blue hair and Paolo, the young boy with his sea pony.
