It’s ok, you can admit it. Sometimes motherhood seems less like the sweetness of a Pamper’s commercial and more like a scene out of Jaws. Here at the Mother Like a Boss Podcast, we dive into the good, the bad and the ugly of motherhood and modern homemaking, with honest conversations, tips, strategies and tools.
The podcast The Mother Like a Boss Podcast is created by Kendra Hennessy. The podcast and the artwork on this page are embedded on this page using the public podcast feed (RSS).

On today’s episode, I’m getting vulnerable and open about my very specific self-sabotage that has followed me throughout my life: avoidance.
I know that so many of you can relate to avoiding problems when they come up and I’m here to share my story and the lessons I’ve learned that have helped me handle things head on, especially when they are difficult.
Have you ever walked into a room with the intention of a total overhaul only to become overwhelmed almost instantaneously?
You’re not alone.
The overwhelm that comes with visual clutter and messes is real and I have a simple exercise you can do in under 5 minutes that will almost eliminate the overwhelm and allow you get started immediately.
If I were to ask you right now why it’s difficult for you to keep your house clean, what would you say?
“No one else helps. We’re too busy. I’m just lazy. I’m unmotivated. Nothing I do is ever enough.”
The truth is, most of the time none of those reasons are actually true.
After 17+ years in helping folks keep a tidier home, I know the real reason it’s so hard to maintain a clean house and how you can shift it today.
Hacks are meant to save you time. Life hacks galore these days, right? But what happens when the hacks cost you more time than they save you?
Today, I’m sharing the cleaning hacks that are actually costing you time instead of saving it and what you can do instead.

I have enough to do on a daily basis. Cleaning my kids room just isn’t one of them.
One of the greatest uses of my time and energy has been teaching and empowering my kids to clean and maintain their own rooms. It requires time up front that will gain you back hours in the future.
Today I’m talking about how to help your kids clean their own rooms and spaces no matter how old they are. It’s never too late OR too early.

One of my favorite quotes of all time is, “Planning is everything, the plan means nothing.” attributed to Dwight Eisenhower. I’ve used it here on the podcast and in my courses to signify the importance of planning + strategizing, even when the plan could change without warning.
At the beginning of our recent vacation, this became even more evident. Today, I’m telling you the story of how last minute travel changes had less of an effect on us because we spent so much time in planning mode.
If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a trillion times: motivation is a myth or rather, the idea that you NEED motivation to get things done is a myth.
Motivation is unpredictable and a variable we just can’t count on. When it comes to not wanting to clean the house, low motivation is coming in hot at the top fo the list.
But I’m going to show you how to have a cleaner home and a routine that works for you even when you have zero motivation to do it.
Getting rid of the things you don’t want, the things that are causing you stress shouldn't be trendy, but that’s what it’s become. There are a lot of myths floating around about the best ways to declutter, hacks that works or don’t work and what it actually means to live with less. Today, we’re gonna debunk 5 of them.
I’m a firm believer that self care is deeper than the every now and then occurrence of luxuries and indulgences. Don’t get me wrong, a pedicure is incredible. So is a bubble bath. So is a blow out. All other these things are forms of self care, but assuming that moms are only allowed to care for themselves a few times a year is yet again putting our needs last while everyone else's come first.
Self care is a non-negotioable for me and I have one simple habit that I couldn’t live without and it’s going to be different than anything you’re expecting.
I’m coming atcha today with a full, value-packed episode on the heels of our big Disney trip.
Today, I’m breaking down my complete vacation planning and prepping routine, from what I do a year out to the month before to the week of. From cleaning the house beforehand to packing our bags to preparing for our flights and more, this is an unmissable episode for anyone planning for a vacation.
Let me be the first to tell you if you’ve never heard this before: cleaning your home is a neutral act.
It is not morally better to be clean. It is not morally bad to have messes.
We’ve created a belief systems that makes the action of having a tidy home better than not rather than realizing cleaning is just an action we do, it’s not who we are.

It's 2023!
Break out the fresh new planner and let's set some goals, right?
Or do we actually need to do that?
Today, I'm going to break down the ways I'm setting clear intentions this new year without setting unrealistic resolutions that will fall through in a week.
The beginning of December was a rollercoaster in the Hennessy house, with nonstop illness, fevers, cancelled plans and everyone home.
During the sickest time of the year, where multiple viruses are making their rounds, let's talk about how to keep up on your routines and prevent falling all the way back to scratch when everyone is sick, including you!
Although we all could say that the last 2 years have some of the hardest we've all endured, I can say that 2022 has been the most difficult for me and yet the most freeing.
I've had more ups and downs this year mentally and emotionally and it's taught me a great deal about rest, the power of "failure" and how important it is for me to trust that I know what's best for me.
Busy? Ya, most of us think we are.
So how do you go about organizing and managing a schedule that's full?
With multiple children, jobs, activities, friends, family, priorities, everything, how do you manage it all. Today, I'm going to break it all down for you and give you simple systems to organize even the busiest of schedules. Interested in Mother Like a Boss with Trello? I've grown to really loathe the phrase "hot mess" but not for the reason you might think.
See, we've come to believe that WE are the messes, but here's the deal: you are not a mess. You are a person that experiences messes. You observe. You see. You even contribute, because we're human and we make messes.
Today, I want to give you permission to NOT call yourself a hot mess anymore if it doesn't make you feel good. You are so much more than a mess, friend.
I'm a big fan of routines. Some might say a smidge obsessed, but that's because they work.
Morning routines are all the rage, but most of the time people are giving you bad advice about how to spend your mornings. Moms have a whole different set of challenges in the morning hours and I want to help you create the simplest morning routine ever that unstresses your life.
What goes into creating and maintaining a tidy-ish home? It's certainly not perfection or anything close.
For the first time ever on the podcast, hear from all 4 members of the Hennessy family as we tell you from our own perspectives how we keep our home running smoothly and our house clean(ish).
It’s a bite-sized episode with big value today.
Where do you start when the mess seems overwhelming? I have some quick and simple tips for you, as well as a few mindset shifts you can make right now and see progress in minutes.
Just because it isn't sitting on the countertop doesn't mean it isn't causing clutter.

We love an AKA, don't we?
This week, I'm answering some of your most popular questions. Some personal, some professional, some serious and some silly.
I've always had a love/hate type relationships with printables, checklists and charts. It's not really about the printables themselves or the people that use them, at all! It's more about our over-reliance on them as magic wands that will fix everything. But when you use them right, they really can make managing your life and home easier. Today, we’re going to talk about the dos and don’ts of using printables and checklists in your home.

Ok, so the word is real, but the idea that you need motivation to accomplish anything is a myth and a lie that quite literally keeps us unmotivated.
Of all the successes I've experienced, of all the goals I've reached, of all the things I've made a supportive habit out of, none of them came from an abundance of motivation. They came from momentum.
Momentum will finish more projects than motivation will ever even start and I have so much to share with you to make this is a reality in your life.
If you're a chronic procrastinator, a perfection-chaser or a wisher of more will-power, this is the episode you need. Don't forget to save your spot at live workshop "How to clean your house in half the time" >> JOIN HERE
Modern homemaking is one of my obsessions and I've spent almost 7 years redefining what the words means.
I get it. It feels outdated and antiquated. It feels like something moms in the 50s did to please their husbands and families. It feels like a burden.
Here's my take: everyone who lives in a home of any kind is a homemaker. I am, my husband is, my kids are. We all do our part to make our home better.
I have a lot of thoughts and some great insights on how you can make homemaking a thing you don't, both in word and in practice.
Change is hard.
We all know that.
It feels easier to just stay the same, even if the same old same old is unsupportive of the goals we have.
I want to talk to you about how I'm giving myself permission to change my mind, even in the face of discomfort and even some judgement from others.
The truth is, you're allowed to change your mind even if other people don't agree, even if they have opinions, even if they don't understand. Wanna follow along with what's mentioned in this episode? We have a serious case of Monday Syndrome in our society and believe me, I've fallen right into it too. It's the idea that we can and should start over every Monday (or 1st of the month, or 1st of the year) This breeds inconsistency and takes far more of our energy. Today, I want to talk about how to stop starting over so you can gain some actual momentum.

Guilt has no place in motherhood, especially when most "mom guilt" is nothing more than a reaction to societies expectations that we should take care of everyone else before ourselves, all the time. It's time to embrace what guilt-free motherhood truly looks like.

Today, I'm talking about micro routines and how to implement these tiny batches of time into your day, especially when you're busy and overwhelmed.
At any given time, I have a lengthy list of projects I want to complete, from business to personal to home and more. It's never ending, because when I check one off, another one pops up in its place.
As a mom living a full life, finish micro projects has been my savior. It keeps me on task and helps me finish more projects without becoming overwhelmed. In this episode, I'll show you how to break your small projects down into manageable, bite size pieces and get more done.
For 8 years, my husband and I (with 2 kids eventually) lived in a tiny 900 square foot apartment. Having very limited space and only one closet made staying organized challenging.
Through that experience, I learned a lot about how to organize and manage small spaces by utilizing what I did have and editing out what we didn't need. In today's episode, I'm talking about how to organize your smaller spaces.
Put an end to the idea of perfect routines (because, psst...they don't exist) and getting started with what I call "Good Enough Routines."
Good Enough Routines allow you to be successful, save time and be productive in the season you're in NOW, without worrying about what you "should" be doing. In this episode, I'll walk you through what they are and how to start implementing them now.
How many times have you spent your precious time decluttering, purging and editing your spaces only to have a tornado of stuff back in your house within a few months?
This phenomenon is what I call "boomerang clutter" and I want to help you deal with it and end it for good.
We all know mom advice is everywhere, but it’s usually unsolicited and comes with a heaping side of judgment. Today, we’re changing that narrative.
I asked my Homemakerish U™ students to provide the best mom advice they’ve ever received and the answers were incredible. I’m sharing them with you today. This is an episode you’ll want to listen to more than once.
When the habits you’re trying to build seem difficult and unattainable, I have a phrase that will change everything.
Just. For. Today.
In this mini episode, I’m going to let you know why this phrase has completely shifted my mindset and helped me create better routines and habits that are easier than ever to stick with.
They say teamwork makes the dream work, but what creates teamwork?
Creating a culture of teamwork is a top priority for many families, but the question is “Where do I start? How do I promote this in my own home?”
Today’s episode is a deep dive into how to define teamwork in your family and how to get started with getting your family on board no matter what season you’re in now.
If I could turn back time, I’d tell myself a lot.
I’d teach my younger self all the things I learned the hard way so she didn’t have to.
Most of all, I’d show her grace and compassion so she could enter adulthood feeling prepared without worrying about being perfect.
Today’s episode is dedicated to the everything I’d teach my younger self about adulting.
On air coaching is back and I'm so excited to share this episode with you.
Robin Prudhoe is a busy lady with older kids in a different season of her life that demands more of her than she anticipated. In this episode, we talk through simple ways for her to get started with prioritizing her schedule and getting tasks done without becoming overwhelmed.
This is my favorite concept and truly the backbone of everything Mother Like a Boss.
Today we’re talking about how to use the power of momentum and 5 minutes at a time to get things done without exhausting yourself.
You ever spend the entire weekend organizing your bedroom closet only to have it back to the way it was in a month?
We talk a lot of lip service in the organizing niche about "getting organized" but what about staying that way? Really, it's all about systems. So let's talk about how to create simple, sustainable systems in your life that you can keep up with.
As a time travel enthusiast (read: nerd) I love talking about the ways we view time in our society. We see it as linear and as something we have no control over. The truth is, time (as we know it) is a made up concept that we have far more control over than we think.
It all starts with changing our relationship with time and today we're going to talk about how to get started so we can unbusy our lives.
In mom culture, there is an overwhelming attachment from how much we get done to how worthy we feel and frankly, it has to stop.
Today we're going to talk about where this comes from and how to end it.
Modern homemaking isn't just for one "type" of mom. It isn't even just for moms. Every person living in a home is by definition a homemaker.
There are so many ways to run your home, schedule your routines and get things done, but where to start?
Today's episode is dedicated to helping you find your own personal homemaking style so you can cultivate a space that feels good for your family and your season.
"It's out of control!"
It's how a lot of moms feel about our houses. With everything we're responsible for focusing on, it's easy for everything to feel out of control at home. I want to help you take your home back, finally and for good.
The idea of home management is pretty overwhelming and aren't we all overwhelmed enough?
I have a simple 2 week plan to help you manage your home without spending hours a day doing it (and even if you have no idea where to start!)
Let's face it: one sized fits all routines don't work and they haven't for a long time.
One of the reasons so many moms believe routines don't work for them is because they've been sold the belief that routines have to be rigid, have to look a certain way absolutely have to be done the same way every day until eternity. Wrong.
Whether you stay at home with your kids, work outside the home, own a business, work at home, work part time, or have grown children that don't even live at home anymore, let's talk about how to make simple, bite-sized routines work for your mom type and season.
A lot of things in life are highly subjective. Messes are one of those things.
A mess to one person is perfectly acceptable and tidy to another. Clean to one person is dirty to another.
As someone that ran a cleaning business for over a decade and served hundreds of clients, I can tell you that everyone has a very different threshold for messes. Knowing what yours is (and everyone else that lives in your house) can help you set routines that serve you and manage expectations of yourself and others.
The Mother Like a Boss™ podcast has reached a big milestone: 300 episodes!
To celebrate this incredible occasion (and celebrate every single one of you that has listened over the years) I'm bringing my best friend Erika Tebbens to the podcast to interview me. I'm answering questions submitted by our audience and students, and a few Erika is throwing in for good measure.
Thanks to each and every one of you for supporting the show, sharing it with friends, subscribing and letting us know how it's changing your life. It's all for you, mama!
If you feel like you spend your life putting out fires, this episode is for you.
One of the greatest shifts I've made in my life, in my home and as a mother is becoming more proactive than I am reactive. Whether it's in my day to day routines or my mindset, I'm going to show you have to set yourself up for success so that you spend less time reacting to the moment.
When it comes to the inner workings of how you run your home, from bedtime rituals to how you plan your meals to the amount of screen time you allow your children, opinions are everywhere. The come from those we know and love, and those we've never met.
Today, let's talk about how to deal with those opinions, whose advice you should be listening to (spoiler: you get to CHOOSE) and how to finally live the way you want without worrying what anyone else has to say about it.
I've been putting this episode off for a while, but it was finally time to take it off the "maybe someday" list and record my feelings and thoughts.
Just like most other women, my journey to self love and acceptance hasn't been easy. In fact, some days it's been downright grueling and heartbreaking.
But as my years pass, I've been able to embrace my truest self by allowing her to shine through. I hope that by sharing my story, someone will start their journey, too.
I love food and I love helping moms simplify their home management, so the idea of "bite-sized homemaking" is right up my alley. In a world that continues to push the "go big or go home" narrative, we're turning the tables and doing things completely differently. The Mother Like a Boss™ way of doing homemaking is modern, simple and sustainable. I'm going to break down what the bite-sized method is and why it works for all moms, no matter what season of motherhood you find yourself in right now.
On air coaching is back and I'm so excited to share this episode with you.
Jennifer Akins is a busy musician and a grandmother of a 7 month old that she takes care of often. In this episode, we talk through simple ways for her to get started decluttering and organizing her home and sticking to routines, even when she's completely overwhelmed.
"I feel like all I do is clean my house!" is one of the most comment complaints and struggles I hear from my followers, so if this is you mama, you are not alone.
The thing is, after cleaning hundreds of homes over an 11 year period, I know the real reasons that it takes you so long to clean and why you feel like it's all you do. The good news is I have a solution. The bad news is it's going to take a big mindset shift to make it happen. Are you ready?

I've always been a solution-oriented person, so nothing sticks in my craw quite like the fact that we discuss mom burn out constantly and yet have no real solutions to work through it.
What if we worked to stop burn out before it happened? Is that even possible? I'm going to share my thoughts and the simple solutions I've found to move me away from burn out and over to a place of peace and ease.
You are deserving of all the self care in the world. You deserve to care for your needs, physical and otherwise. Something I discovered about myself recently was how often I use self care as a form of avoidance and ultimately self sabotage.
How does that work? Because I wasn't focused on truly loving myself, but with using stereotypical self care activities, like shopping as a way to avoidance deeper self care. After talking to my students, I've found I'm not alone, so let's chat about it.
It's 2022 already. Happy New Year, mamas!
This is my favorite time of year to decluttering, purge and start fresh, but to start?
In honor of the new year, I'm giving you 22 things you get toss in right now in your home, in your schedule and in your life to make more room for what you want.
We're at that famous time of the year when we start thinking about all the new habits we're going to create in the next week or so, making the next year "bigger and better than ever" only to have those new habits get lost in a pile of past intentions by January 25.
There is an easier way and it's what I call the tether method. It's not a new concept, but it's my particular way that has helped me tether my new habits to my old ones and pull them along. This is just what you need to stay consistent with those new routines and goals you're ready to crush in this new year.
It's an absolute honor and privilege to introduce our podcast guest today, because not only is she a rockstar in the world of helping women live life with intention, she's also a supportive friend.
Shunta Grant is the creator of the Best Today® Guide and founder of Best Today® , a company that creates resources to help women take control of her most limited resource-- time. Shunta is on a mission to help women live lives of intention and does so through teaching them how to be proactive, intentional, self-aware and self-loving.
Shunta and I have a lot in common and a lot to say on the topics of time, productivity and consistency. This is an unmissable episode, friends.

Raise your hand if mom life has had you feeling like you're stuck in a rut, like a car spinning its wheels and kicking up nothing but mud.
You are not alone. You are in good company. You are not a bad mom.
The very real monotony of life as a mom can have us feeling like we can't move forward, then guilty for feeling that way, then frustrated that we feel guilt and so on down the line. Let's talk about how we can honor and understand these feelings and get out of the rut as quickly and effortlessly as possible.
It's the most wonderful time of the year...until it's not because you've over-scheduled yourself, said yes to things you swore you wouldn't and now feel like it's going to be the most stressful time of year, again.
What we need more of, ladies: boundaries! Let's talk about how to stick to holiday boundaries, whether they are with your family, your friends or with that most important person in your life: yourself!
Journaling is a highly effective yet incredibly misunderstood practice. Most think it's like keeping a diary, having to memorialize every moment of our lives in writing. A journal is more than a memoir, it's an insight into our inner thoughts, most of which we don't know we have.
Journaling has improved my life in ways I can't physically measure, but can feel deep inside. It's a habit that allows me to explore my mindset and work through the resentment, the exhaustion, the guilt and the worry that comes up in my mom life. Today, we have a special treat for you: a highly valuable episode + an opportunity to get our new guided journaling experience!

Are you an over-thinker? Do you overthink about how often you overthink? Do you do more thinking than doing, and then spend time thinking about how much you think, but don't do? Oh, the cycle!
As someone who spend the majority of her life inside her head, I get this and I want to help the moms of the world stop thinking and start doing. Your plans aren't doing you any good inside your head, my friend. Let's set up some routines to help you get to work, simply and easily.
Nothing is more difficult than an overcomplicated routine and I'm talking about for adults. Imagine how frustrating it is for a child. Routines are innately helpful for kids of all ages, but what if your children aren't sticking to them?
Today, we're going to talk about my bite size method and why it works so well for kids. I'm giving you the simple ways you can create snackable daily routines for your kids that will give you all your time back, for good.
I have a confession to make: I am an excellent planner, but I really fall short on the follow through. I always said I would have made an incredible personal assistant or professional planner, because when it comes to figuring out the details and starting a project, I'm your girl.
I just couldn't figure out why I wasn't following through, but now I have. It comes down to consistency, real consistency that's built on micro habits and bite size routines. If you're good at starting like me, this is your episode.

Let's call it what it is: we've become overly obsessed with productivity. Do the things, do more, do it all. In an effort to move away from just being "busy" we've now swung the pendulum over to the other side, focusing on always needing to produce. Especially in motherhood, many of us equate our worth with how many checkmarks we see on a list at the end of the day.
You are a worthy person outside of what you accomplish each day and it's time to find freedom from our productivity-obsessed culture.
Home organization has become way too complicated. There, I said it. From TV shows to billions of Pinterest search results to entire lines of products at Target, organization is now less about systems and more about flashiness. I'm pumping the brakes on all of it.
Today, I'm going to give you 6 simple and highly effective ways to keep your house organized in as little as 10 minutes at a time.
This is by far one of the top 5 most commonly ask questions at Mother Like a Boss™ and I'm jumping in with both feet today. There is nothing more overwhelming than trying to get started...when you already feel overwhelmed. It's like an overwhelmed soup.
I've got big value for you today, mindset shifts and practical tips to help you get started on anything, even when you feel overwhelmed and burnt out.
What if I told you that you could get more done without having to do more? "Sure, and maybe I could ride my magical unicorn to space while I'm at it."
It's possible and easier than you think. We're a little obsessed with productivity in our society, but the key to getting more done is creating momentum and prioritizing the order in which you do things. Having a domino area in your routines is how you accomplish both of those things.
Planning for the future can feel confusing, but planning to plan? That's just ridiculous, right? Wrong.
Implementing planning time into your schedule, even 10 minutes at a time can be the difference between living out your priorities and reaching your goals, and always feeling like your 10 steps behind. Planning time is how we stay proactive rather than reactive and it works for everyone. It today's episode, I'm giving you the low down on how to implement planning time into your schedule, even if you feel like you have no free time for it right now.
Let's just name it and claim it: the last 18+ months has been anything but kind and gentle with us, especially in the motherhood community. Between lockdowns and health concerns and school being virtual, I've felt anything but my "best." Now, it's time to choose ourselves again, to get back to a place where we can set goals- even VISUALIZE our goals- again.
So where to start? I'm going to tell you how I'm doing it and invite you all to join me in our 2021 cohort of Your Best Mom Year because you deserve to have dreams again, mama and you deserve to have them come true. Big and small. They all matter here.

Feel like your house is bursting at the seams with toys, popsicle crafts and construction paper pictures? Tell me you have kids without telling me you have kids, right?
There is a lot of sentimentality that goes into decluttering things like this and it also feels never ending, so today let's talk about simple solutions to getting rid of things so you can make room for the wonderful memories you do want to keep.
Sometimes I think socks are invisible and that I have magical sight because it seems that I'm the only one that notices them sitting on the couch. It's all fun and games until you realize you're frustrated, resentful and exhausted because you're the only one that seems to see the mess around you. How can you take work off your shoulders if you feel like you're the only one that cares?
You're not alone. You're valid. Let's talk about what to dow hen no one sees the mess but you.
The pencils, glue sticks and aisles and aisles of binders have been out at Target since early July, but the time is here: it's back to school season. I love this time of year because it feels like mom new year. It's a fresh start. It's also a season of overwhelm, but does it have to feel that way?
In today's episode, I'm going to talk about how to beat the chaos of back to school season and start the year off more organized and stress-free.
This is it.
My oldest is now in high school and we've chosen to homeschool her. Actually, she chose it and we're all excited and nervous.
With an 8 year old son still in public school, this is a new adventure for our entire family. In today's episode, I'm talking about our approach to homeschooling, how we're organizing our days and what we've learned in the process.
Money isn't the only currency we have in this world. We also spend our time and energy, often on tasks with little to no ROI (return on investment.) Something that became glaringly obvious over the last 15 months is how unequal time and energy are. Just because we have the time doesn't mean we have the energy.
Let's talk about how to save time AND energy and set better boundaries with our energy in general.
Analysis paralysis is real and with research showing that we make upwards of 35,000 decisions EACH DAY, its no wonder making those decisions feels so difficult. This makes it even more important for us to show our children how to become good decision makers from the start, from trusting themselves to know what's right for them to understanding any consequences to their decisions.

Cleaning your house shouldn't be a burden, plain and simple. Of all the tips and tricks I have for making house cleaning more enjoyable, this episode is quite literally 3 simple steps to make it easier right this moment. These are steps you can implement into your life today.

The way we run our home is so much more than the sum of it's parts. It's more than the cleaning, the cooking, the wiping butts and playing taxi driver to our kids. Much like any other social group, our home is built on the culture we create for it.
On today's episode, I want to take you inside this idea and why spending all of your time focusing and stressing about the minutia of day-to-day homemaking isn't solving the problem. Let's chat about how creating a culture in your home that fits with your values will bring you more joy (and less wanting to huddle in a corner and cry.)

This is a common one, mamas and it's worth an honest conversation.
Living in a house you aren't super jazzed about can affect how you feel about your home overall. Our houses are dwellings, but our homes are a feeling. We carry them with us wherever we go. How do we go about loving our homes when we don't exactly love the dwellings we're in?
We're on a new episode summer hiatus, but you can listen to our incredible "Best of" series this July.
I'm going to say something that will immediately ruffles some feathers: there have been times in my 13 years as a mom that I've felt resentful of the life I'd created. I'm saying that out loud in the podcast today as a way to start the conversation and end the shame. Resentment is the bi-product of circumstances, mindsets and beliefs and it doesn't mean you don't absolutely love your children.
Ignoring the feelings, or believing that this has to be " the way it is" in modern motherhood is going to keep resentment at the wheel, driving your life and causing you more unhappiness. You deserve more. Let's have an open and honest conversation about where it comes from and how to handle the feelings.

Where my overachievers at? If you grew up getting praise when you did more, you're probably thinking that doing less is lazy. We've been conditioned by a world that tells us that more is better, because doing more is how we prove our worth.
This is an episode all about the beauty and power of doing less as a way to feel better; emotionally, mentally and physically. You don't have to prove anything to anyone, mama.
If I had a nickel for every time I came across another guru claiming to have discovered the most meaningful, useful morning routine that will help everyone in the world become as successful as an Amazon CEO, I'd be as rich as an Amazon CEO.
The truth is that there is no such routine, because everyone's life is different. We're all coming at the day in different seasons, from different circumstances and with different values. Our morning routines should fit our life and today, I want to give you a step-by-step process to choose a morning routine you can stick to.
If it were possible and legal to marry an online organizing tool, Trello™ and I would be hitched by now. I've talked about it before and I won't stop because Trello has made my life infinitely easier, my life more management and my business highly organized.
So what is it? It's a visual organization tool (think Pinterest and Post-Its had a baby) and in this episode, I'm going to break down how to get started and all the ways you can use it in your mom life (and beyond!)
One of the best decisions I ever made was to run my home like I run my business. It's allowed us to create systems and routines that suit everyone and keep us on track like a well-oiled machine.
Being a CEO isn't about making all of the decisions, it's about making the right ones. You get to choose the type of household CEO you want to be and design your life in a way that fits your values.
"I'll tell you when you're older." isn't a phrase we say in the Hennessy house. My husband and I are committed to having uncomfortable conversations with our children at every age (in age appropriate ways, of course.)
It can be difficult to get over our own discomfort and lack of confidence, but what an amazing opportunity it is to have an open dialogue with our children and create a safe space for them to ask questions.
One of my favorite ways to stay productive is to think of my future self as a different person, someone worthy of success and peace. She is someone worthy of having things set up for her without extra and added stress.
This idea of setting your future self (even if it's just the you in a few hours) is so freeing and can help build momentum in everything we do. Here are 3 simple ways to get started and show your future self she's worthy of time freedom.
No woman is an island and this house and family or 4 does not run on it's own. I love a good tool, especially when it makes my life easier. I thrive on simplicity and have created a home that helps us maintain simple systems.
Let's talk about 5 tools that keep our family organized (and able to maintain it, too!)
No is a complete sentence. What a freeing statement. In theory, it sounds empowering, but what about the people pleasing need to provide a justification for every no we speak.
You don't owe anyone a reason or a justification for your boundaries or your choices and today in a great day to start saying no without the need to explain why.
Not every routine is made for every season. We know that motherhood is all about the ebbs and flows and just like nature, seasons come and go. This can make creating routines that stick feel more difficult.
I want to uncomplicate the process of creating a seasonal routine that fits your life, whether it be a cleaning routine during the summer months, a nightly routine during sports season or a day-to-day schedule with a new baby.
The mother-daughter relationship is one with many facets and levels. As a mother to a daughter and a daughter to a mother, I know that there can be discomfort, tension and unhealed wounds in these relationships. I'm so excited to welcome Dr. Michelle Deering to the podcast to discuss these relationships and how we can learn from them as both mothers and daughters.
Head to the show notes for more information and details on this episode.
There is no doubt that motherhood, no matter the season, often feels hard, plain and simple. There's nothing worse than feeling like you're failing all while someone else tells you how "easy" it can be.
Instead of trying to make the situations (which are often out of my control) easier, I'm focusing on bringing ease to my approach. That means uncomplicating my decisions, my schedule, my home and my boundaries.
In a world with so much out of our control, it's time to step up and take back control of our approach to life because ease just feels more empowering.
We're in the second quarter of the year, a time when most of us realize that those new year's resolutions and goals have fallen by the wayside. It's ok and it happens to all of us.
I want to help you create goals you can stick to, without the complication, long-term commitments or difficult methods. Today, let's talk about 3 simple ways to uncomplicate your goals and make them stick.
Raise your hand if you hate cleaning?
I get it. Especially with busy mom lives, cleaning just seems like one more thing to do and a never-ending chore. You clean one room and another is getting messy.
One of the pillars here at Mother Like a Boss is simplicity in all things home management. That includes cleaning. In today's episode, I'm giving the low down on how to clean your house (and keep it that way) even if you really hate doing it.
It's been said that comparison is the thief of joy and it couldn't be more true. Social media has made it easier than ever to gaze at the highlight reels that others post and cause us to compare ourselves constantly to them.
However, comparison isn't always bad. When we use it as a form of inspiration, it can be joyous. The issue is when we compare for the sake of self-judgement.
Today, we're going to talk the good, the bad and the uncomfortable when it comes to the comparison trap.
No one gets where they are without taking a million small steps to be there. The same is true in motherhood, in business, working towards your goals, anything. Our children don't learn to run at full speed before they can crawl. Why? Because it's the small steps, the consistency, the learning and mistakes, and follow through where big leaps and full speed ahead success is found.
This is a pep-talk meets value-packed episode on the benefit of loving on the small steps rather than waiting around for the big score of a goal to be reached.

Motherhood is such a beautiful gift, but let's be really honest, it can also be lonely. Really lonely.
Moms deserve a support system. We deserve a group of other friends and family that cheer us on and encourage us. But where do we start? Let's talk about it.

If you're a perfectionist and you know it clap your hands...and a sea of noise erupts
There is no shame in the perfectionist game, except when there is. The ego creates a world inside your mind when you should be able to do it all, or nothing at all (like O-Town would say) The problem is, we'll never be able to do it all meaning that the only option left is nothing.
My boldness is coming out in big ways today and I don't know that it will resonate with everyone. I making a statement here and now because in 2021, I've had enough of mom guilt. I've had enough of the way it makes us feel, the hoops it makes us jump through, the judgement is stabs at our souls. We deserve better than feeling guilty for just existing.
You asked, I'm answering!
I get a lot of questions about homemaking, home management and motherhood, so in this episode I'm going to answer those for you. We all know that when one person has a question, it means many people behind the scenes do, too!

I get asked about chores a lot. What chores to give kids, at what ages to start, what to do when they don't do their chores, how to create better chore routines? The truth is, there is no one way that fits every household or lifestyle. What I have found is that when we approach delegation from a place of empowerment versus nagging, the results speak for themselves.
This is a different approach to delegating and chores, beyond the charts, schedules, reward systems and routines.
Yup, we've talked about this topic before and yup, there is another couple of episodes touching on this topic and yup we're talking about it again. It deserves an even deeper discussion because the power of creating momentum in your life versus waiting for motivation to hit you like a bolt of lightning can't be understated.
We all want to know how to get more done without having to to do, because good heavens moms are already doing enough. The answer is momentum and I want to show you exactly why that's the case in today's episode. Save your seat at the Momentum Over Motivation Challenge. Click here to join us.
Time to get organized! (side eye coming at me, I know) Organization has been widely misunderstood for years. You don’t get organized by buying cute baskets from Home Goods or buying the coolest label maker on the market, as much as we all wish that was the case. Organizing your life is all about simple systems that you can duplicate and replicate.
But we all know that it isn't starting the systems that's hard, it's maintaining them. So let's talk about how to organize your life, your schedule and your home and finally make it stick.
Yup, homemaking still matters in 2021. It mattered last year, it mattered 100 years ago and it will matter 100 years from now (at least, I imagine it will.) Why? Homemaking is nothing more than a cultivation of what matters to you in your life. Because whether you're a mom that works a traditional 9-5, owns a business or stays home to raise her kids full time, your home matters and you deserve to live your life without the stress and burden that has traditionally fallen on the shoulders of moms.
So let's talk homemaking, 2021 style.
There is no shortage of information on routines these days. Throw a rock on Pinterest and you'll find a blog post, a chore chart, a color-coded schedule or a guru claiming they know the absolute best morning routine that will change your life. The thing is, how do you know what actually works?
After 5 years of helping tens of thousands of moms create routines that work for their unique lives, I want to give you the 411 on the truths and myths that are wasting your time each day. Routines can (and should be) simple. If it feels too complicated, it probably is. Feeling the burden of doing all the things? Wishing you could consistently keep those promises you make to yourself? Same, mama! I created the Let's Get Consistent Tracker and Guide for you. Download it for FREE here.
Be sure to head over to the podcast directory to binge more episodes and find everything you want organized by topic here.
Our beliefs are everything. What we believe about ourselves is everything. Limiting beliefs are the false thoughts that keep us from living the life we want and going for our biggest goals and desires.
The problem is that most of us don't know we have limiting beliefs. Our egos convince us that they're true. If you're finding you can't ever break through a ceiling in your life, this is the episode you need to listen to. Understanding your limiting beliefs is the first step to stopping the mama self sabotage.
We all know what kind of a year 2020 has been, but with all of the challenges we've had, we've also been given a lot of lessons to learn from. This "new year" is going to look different than any in the past, so how do we wrap up a challenging year while preparing ourselves for whatever 2021 has for us?
Oooooo, raise your hand if you're a planner like me? I'm not just talking about that physical hardcover planning calendar you buy every year or the case full of Paper Mate colored flair pens you use to doodle out the future, I mean the hours and hours you spend making plans only to never follow through on them. Life happens, but the thing is, life will always happen.
So how do we follow through on those plans we make, whether it's a small daily task, a new habit we want to form, a better routine we want to follow or a big, scary goal we're ready to crush.
We've opened the doors to Small Steps Society™ and you're invited, friend! Click here for all the details.
How often are you truly taking the time to be happy, for no other reason that it feels good to feel that way? Self worth is difficult for moms who feel like we constantly have to earn the reward of happiness, or gain it from making others happy first. Let's have an honest and powerful discussion about the meaning of worth and the happiness you deserve.
The holiday season is here and probably looking much different in 2020 than it has in the past. It's time to ditch the traditional stress and create new traditions that serve you. An imperfect holiday season sounds like exactly what we all need.
Calling all the mamas out there who are ready to start a business, but have no idea where to begin. I've started two super successful businesses: one while I was pregnant, 22 years old and totally uneducated about starting a business and another while I was still running my first business, all with a 9 year old and 3 year old in tow. I know a few things, but more importantly, I've LEARNED a few things.
13 years of starting, growing and scaling businesses as a busy mom has taught me huge lessons, and I want to share them with you now. If you're confused and overwhelmed with where to start in business, this is a must-listen episode.
Plus, I have a special Black Friday invitation for you to keep doing the work to start a business, no matter what season of motherhood you're in right now. This is UNMISSABLE, friends.

You're in the middle of an important task and your phone dings. You stop what you're doing to check, thinking it's just as important as the task you're doing. Turns out, it was a spam text message. Now you're off track, annoyed and have to switch back to that important task you were doing in the first place.
Just because something is urgent does not make it important and vice versa. It all comes down to priorities, a tricky little idea in motherhood where everything feels important and urgent. This episode explores what priorities really are and how to implement them more effectively into your life without feeling like you're doing all the things.

"I'll get things done when I'm more confident." How many times have you thought or said this? Here's the issue: confidence comes from consistency. It comes from doing the same thing over and over, imperfectly until one day you realize you're more confident than the day before.
But consistency isn't always easy and feels, well, kinda boring. So let's talk about how to implement small touches of consistency into your day and build your confidence through doing, not wishing and waiting.

How often are you "shoulding" on yourself? "I should be doing something different. I should be able to get more done. I should be a better mom. I should stay home. I should work. I should put that laundry away. I should make more money. I should be cleaner. I should, I should I should."
Shoulds are obligations. Coulds are possibilities. I don't know about you, but possibilities feel way lighter and more fun than obligation and duty.

Goals. We love 'em. We hate 'em. They scare us. They annoy us.
Motherhood creates unique challenges, hurdles and struggles, so why are we trying to achieve goals the same way as everyone else? You feel burnt out, overwhelmed and under appreciated, and sitting down to create a list of audacious goals to go after is just one more thing on the to-do list.
I've created a new framework for deciding what I want and how I'm going to get it, both in my business and personal life because I deserve to reach my goals not matter how big or small they are. So do you. Let's flip the whole goal culture upside down.
Your motherhood story is unique to you, but who are you letting write and narrate it? Your past? Your society? Your in-laws? The mommy groups you're a part of on Facebook?
If given the opportunity to rewrite the story of how you want to show up in motherhood for yourself and your children, what would it sound like? Let's erase the current narrative and rewrite your story to one that allows you more peace and less burnout.
It's Q&A time again and like a fun little mail bag that children's TV hosts would pull audience letters from, I read your messages and DMs to choose the most asked questions. And this one comes up a LOT.
Gratitude is great, but what about all that jealousy that bubbles up when you see another woman who has more than you, who has it better than you, who has something you want...or so you perceive it to be. I have some great insight into what that jealously might actually be and how to shift our thoughts to, "How can I have that?" versus, "Why don't I have that?!"

Ok, we're getting deep mamas. We're talking about the identities we've created for ourselves, the beliefs we hold and the reasons that most of them are complete crap. Ouch! So why do they seem so real? The ego.
Whether it's in psychology class or a self-help book or in reference to someone who thinks highly of themselves or even on this podcast, you've probably heard about the ego before. There are many different descriptions and definitions of the ego out there, but we're going to talk about what it means for your mindset. She's a mean girl and a tantrumy toddler all rolled into one and it's time to finally recognize the ego for what she is: an identity we've created.
Let's face it: 2020 did a lot of our goals dirty. January 1 seems like a lifetime ago and many of the things we thought we'd be doing got deferred or cancelled. The biggest obstacle to reaching a goal isn't always the outside circumstances, though, it's our inability to let time pass. How do we enjoy the journey, as slow as it may seem, on our way to what we're after without wanting to give up along the way?

We did it! We bought our dream home and it only took 10 years for the dream to become a reality. A long time for some, but exactly the right time for us. No dream or goal is realized without a whole lot of blood, sweat, and copious amounts of tears, and I'm breaking it all down in this episode.
I had to change a lot of beliefs and thoughts to make this possible, so let me share with you the biggest shifts in mindset that had to be made in order to get here, as well as the new routines we're putting into place now so that we can spend more time enjoying our home.
We're doing something new on the Mother Like a Boss™ podcast! We focus heavily on mindset here, so why not do an incredible roundup each month that includes wins from our students, new shifts that I find are working and a few quick and easy tips you can implement right now to shift your beliefs in motherhood and life. "I just don't feel motivated." How many times have you said this while sitting on the couch, watching another episode of Gilmore Girls, not doing that thing you totally said you were going to do? Samesies, friend. You know why motivation is so hard? Because you're never going to be motivated to do crap you don't want to do, plain and simple.
The most freeing moment of my life was when I realized I didn't have to be motivated to get things done, and that I could rely on momentum over all else. Motivation is a fleeting emotion. If you aren't feeling, you can't just summon it to come. This episode explores and invites you to ditch the idea of motivation so you can actually get things done and feel good about it.
It's another Q&A episode here at the Mother Like a Boss podcast. I love taking your popular and frequently asked questions and giving you some guidance when I can.
As I prepare for my own move into our new house, I figured this was a fitting question to answer. A new home is a fresh start and a great time to revamp old routines, especially cleaning.

It's our BEST OF series, summer edition.
The only thing worse than complaining is the complaining about complaining. This episode is complain-free. Instead, this is an honest discussion about the price we're all paying by living our lives through the lens of negativity and complaints.
Complaining is more than just negativity about your situation, it's a grasp for control in the moment. But what is the cost of doing that all the time and what example are we really setting for our children?
It's "best of" month and we're taking it back in time to some of our most popular and influential episodes to date. Today, we're taking you back to meal planning 101 (even for those of you that really hate meal planning. I see you...)
I'll be honest, I have had a love/hate relationship with meal planning over the years. As I dig in deeper to that relationship, I realize it all comes down to the challenge most of us face: overcomplication-itis
Meal planning can be as simplistic or as sophisticated as your heart desires (or your time allows) but let's talk about how to get started and make it easy, even if the thought of meal planning makes you gag.
It's "best of" month and we're taking it back in time to some of our most popular and influential episodes to date. Today's episode is packed with practical and valuable tips to make cleaning your home less complicated.
After 11 years in the professional house cleaning biz, I learned a thing or two about how to clean more effectively in less time. It isn't about being the best. I started out knowing absolutely nothing, but over time I learned and it helped me not only build a thriving business, but also keep my own house clean in less time. I'm passing on this knowledge to my own kids now, and onto you.
You don't have to like cleaning to clean like a pro. It's all about making small shifts that have lasting results. Cleaning shouldn't be taking up all your time, friend.

It's "best of" month and we're taking it back in time to some of our most popular and influential episodes to date.
It is officially time to let go of all the myths and lies we've been believing as homemakers and embrace the finer parts of making a home that don't involve the likes of Pinterest-perfect perfectionism or burdened mothers acting as servants.
In this busy, noisy world, it may be more important than ever to cultivate a space in your life that covers you from the stresses of the outside world. Modern homemakers, unite.

Where are all my people pleasers at? *sees all the hands raised*
It feels like being a people pleaser would be a great thing. Who doesn't want to make others happy? But is that really what we're doing when we put everyone else's happiness and well-being before our own, or are we really just avoiding the discomfort that comes from setting boundaries?
Are we really concerned with appeasing other people, or are we concerned with how we'll be perceived if we don't?

"Just think positive!" We've all heard it. We've all said it. It seems so harmless. It's good advice, right? Right...until it's not.
Positivity is a beautiful thing, but pretending to be positive by neglecting our true feelings is not. Positivity can become a toxic cycle when we're using it to avoid our true feelings and emotions, or the uncomfortable work that needs to be done on our mindset.
You're allowed to NOT feel positive, mama. Let's chat about how to create a more positive mindset for you without in a way that feels freeing, not shameful or toxic.
There is so much more to explore and learn from this episode. Check out the show notes and other goodies here.
A growth mindset is an open mindset and our children deserve to learn the power of creating abundance and success on their own terms. Growth mindset is the belief that anything is possible and that we are in fact NOT victims of our own circumstances. The earlier children learn the power of their own thoughts, the more equipped they will be in adulthood to focus on growth and joy over the limits they self-impose. In the adulting Olympics, moms would be the juggling champions, hands-down (wouldn't it be great if that were an actual Olympic sport?!) Moms are master jugglers and pride themselves on doing all the things, but is doing all the things the right thing?
Mommy burnout is a hot topic these days and what I've found is there is a lot of blame going around. So let's have a real conversation about mommy burnout, where is stems from, how we can take responsibility for it and how we can free ourselves from it once and for all.
Progress over perfection is a beautiful and powerful quote and mindset shift. Perfection is an unattainable goal and reaching for it wastes heaps of time, but that doesn't mean you have to settle for less. Embracing a life of imperfect effort and imperfect moments is not the same as settling for less than you truly desire.

We have another Q&A episode comin' atcha today and this one as is deep as it is popular in the MLAB space. What happens when you start to change, start to uplevel, start to see improvements, but you're spouse isn't? How do we navigate the feeling of "leaving people behind" that come up as we change?
Someone once asked me, "What does your perfect day look like?" and my response was "I looks like an imperfect day because I can't create a perfect day."
The word "optimal" has been popping up in my life lately and while I usually teach about how to create your ideal day, I've started to shift a bit. What if we thought about creating a framework for our days around what is optimal, what is best? What would serve us the best? What can we get rid of? What can we keep? If your day was created around peak performance in the season you're in now with the resources you have now, what would it look like? Let's explore that. This episode is pure fire!

The nurturing soul of a mother is full of compassion for her children, but how much warmth and understanding do you extend to yourself? We're conditioned to be hard on ourselves because the mindset of perfectionism runs deep. We don't do many interviews here, but this one was worthy of an exceptional expert to make the whole meditation conversation easier to swallow.

Moms are nurturers by nature and nothing feels more nurturing than providing our kids with happy lives. However, in my never-ending quest in the self-development world, I've realized that fostering happiness is not the same as constantly trying to force happiness onto my children.
We are not responsible for the emotions of others and micromanaging the feelings of our kiddos is exhausting and pretty unproductive. I want to create a safe space for my children to feel a wide range of emotions, so that when they're unhappy, they learn to cope instead of seek out someone to fill them up. The road can feel difficult, mama and I hope this episode helps you navigate it.

Remember the days when you didn't know everyone's opinion about everything and they didn't know your opinion about everything either? The good old days. Opinions are great because they make us all different, but being sanctimonious in the way we show up with those opinions can be damaging to the confidence level of us all, moms included.
Everywhere you turn, it seems like the sanctimommies have taken over, judging other moms for how they live. How can we stay confident in how we show up for our lives when it seems like we're always being judged, or are judging others? More lovingly, how can we understand why moms are so much more judgmental these days and show them compassion in their not-so-kind moments.

Times may be changing, but homemaking is still important. Why? Because your home is more than the cleaning, the cooking, the momming. A home is what happens inside and outside the walls, separate from the material world. Our homes are intangible, a feeling more than anything. That never stops being important.
So what does that mean for modern moms and reluctant homemakers alike? Today is a discussion that answers that very questions with truth and respect.

Vulnerable. That's what this episode is. In my motherhood communities, we get a lot of questions about step, or bonus parenting. I may not be a stepparents, but I am a stepchild and have been since I was 3. I wanted to open up on this episode and give a unique perspective from the viewpoint of a "bonus kid." Sometimes, the best ways to approach difficult situations are by putting yourself in the other person's shoes.
This month, our mindfulness episodes are focused simply on a statement, an affirmation to base your mindset shift on. You spend your life caring for your children, your family and the people around you, but you are worthy of being taken care of, too. The more you are filled with love from yourself and care from those around you, the more you'll have to give without resentment or exhaustion.

It's official: I'm the mother of a teenager daughter.
Someone catch me as I fall over in disbelief.
I am uninterested in typecasting her in the role of "moody teen" and instead plan to let her forge her own path, emotions and all.
We thought it would be a great way to celebrate the birth of my first born by doing an insightful and honest Q&A session with her. Our listeners (and their teens!) asked and we answered.
You'll hear everything from how she feels about having entrepreneur parents to how she deals with peer pressure to how she stays confident in a world that tries to strip girls of their worth. This is the perfect episode to listen to with your daughters, your preteens and your teens alike.

It's easy to become obsessed with micromanaging the moments of our lives to avoid the chaos we fear, but is that any way to really enjoy your life?

When I started my first business at 22, not knowing anything about business, I didn't think much about financial freedom. I was brought up to believe you worked, made money then retired. It wasn't until years later when I opened my mind to new possibilities that I realized I could create my own financial freedom for my family while empowering moms around the world to create freedom in their own homes.
The question gets asked often, "How did you start Mother Like a Boss and how has it helped your family?" As always, I'm opening up in another vulnerable episode that I hope will empower more women to seek financial and time freedom for themselves.

We're all familiar with fear of failure, but what about a fear of success? It seems downright nutty to fear doing well and yet here so many of us sit afraid of being too much, having too much or maintaining too much.
Whether it's at a job, in a business, at home with your kids, in your marriage or just managing your home, fear of success is real and ultimately causes us to self-sabotage so we never quite reach a level that seems out of reach.

I'm still shocked at how controversial the topic of house cleaning can be in the motherhood community and how dead-set we all are that it has to be the worst, most exhausting thing in the world. It's no wonder how many side-eyes I get when I say I spend only 30 minutes a day cleaning my house.
With two kids, a business and a slew of other responsibilities, I'm pretty uninterested in spending my precious moments cleaning inefficiently. I want to give you back your minutes and allow you to spend less time cleaning and more time living.

In a world dead set on saying yes to every opportunity that comes along, what would happen if you said no more often? What would life be like if you said no to the things that don't truly serve your personal and family priorities and left room to yes to the things that do?

"I have high expectations." is a phrase I've heard my entire life, from teachers, parents and even out of my own life. But what does that really mean? In the world of motherhood, having expectations of our children and family can cause more resentment than good, especially when they aren't communicated.
How do you truly create a home that is managed well without demanding unrealistic expectations of yourself and others, and what does unrealistic even mean? How can we learn to let go of control that expectations hold over others and start communicating our needs in a productive way?

We're not an overly strict household. I'm not an overly strict mother, but when it comes to the words we use in our house, my husband and I are sticklers.
The words and phrases we use matter, and I don't mean swearing. I mean the negative words we've let infiltrate our daily conversations that get passed down to our children. I'm far from perfect but eliminating certain words and phrases have given us the power of positivity and abundance for our family.

Money is a loaded topic and one most people stay away from.
But not me.
I love money because I know the true power that can be found when good people have money. As women, we're still playing catch-up and money can feel like an icky topic, especially if we're not the one "bringing home the bacon."
It's still important. I'm here to tell my own winding story and shed some light on the transformation you can make when you become educated about money, your own money issues and what you can do when you face up to the financial situation you're in.

Wanting more for yourself isn't greedy, so why does it feel that way? Because we've been told our entire lives that giving is more important than taking. But abundance isn't about taking, it's about receiving and the more you receive, the more you can give. This is a short, powerful episode with words that will strike at the heart of this issue: Greed and abundance are NOT the same.

They say hindsight is 20-20. I think that phrase was created about motherhood. We go into this season of newness not knowing what to expect, but expecting to know it all. Of course, we don't.
I resisted homemaking for years, or at least the word itself. Embracing it for what it can do for my life has brought me peace and joy beyond measure. Today, I'm traveling back in time and telling my former self what I wish I knew about homemaking and motherhood then.

It's Independence Day here in the United States and I'm celebrating the only way I know how: by talking about house cleaning. I'm loads of fun at parties, friends.

I have to admit that it feels like we're drowning in negativity these days and moms are getting the brunt of it. Everyone has an opinion on how you should raise your children and live your life, but are all opinions bad? Is all criticism negative? And how to be sift through the opinions without feeling worse about ourselves?
I'm opening up today about the negativity and criticism I receive in my business and how I've learned to deal with the so-called "haters." What I really want you to take from this episode is how you, the mom who just wants to live her life and love her children, can deal with criticism being hurled your way and decide which is constructive and which is just judgy negativity.
During today’s episode, I also list a series of qualifying questions I go through whenever I feel the critical eye upon me. Here are those questions for your reference:
Today, I'm getting as honest and real as I can about the pervasive "hot mess mommy" culture that's swept through motherhood over the last few decades, and giving my thoughts on why we at Mother Like a Boss™ choose to take a very different approach to empowering women.
Is it really helping us to be told that motherhood HAS to be a struggle, day- in and day-out? Not that is "can" be a struggle, or "will feel" like a struggle, but that it is absolute and we have no choice in the matter? What if instead, we acknowledged the messy days and messy seasons without creating a culture that perpetuates negativity in motherhood.
Moms deserve a life-jacket, not a boat to circle us round and round telling us that drowning in mom life is just something we should have to accept.
If you're ready for truth and some real mom empowerment, this is your episode, mama.

Not all goals are created equal. We're taught to aim for the stars and reach for the moon, but if what you want out of life doesn't require you to shoot rockets off into space, why are you?
Mothers are led to believe there is one way to do things: one way to run their home, one way to be a mom, one way to do it all. Your aspirations shouldn't reflect what you "think" you should be aiming for. Putting effort into the wrong thing is what makes good goals go bad.

Gratitude is truly a gateway to a life of joy and fulfillment, but it doesn't need to to something we shame our way into when you're feeling down. We're allowed to feel our feelings. Whether it's frustration, anger, guilt or sadness, our feelings are real. We can use gratitude as an invitation to shift those feelings, not a punishment for not feeling happy.

FOMO: Fear Of Missing Out
I saw that acronym floating around the interwebs last year and admittedly had to Google it (old person, party of 1)
I know the feeling. I've been there. Saying yes to things not because I want to do them, but because I fear missing out. Social media has made us more fearful than ever as moms of missing out (or having our children) miss out on what everything else is experiencing.
But your life doesn't have to be shrouded in fear. What if instead of fearing what you're missing, you embrace what you're experiencing?

As a mother who has felt her fair share of explosive anger come out of no where, my guest helped me see the shame I had been carrying around and how to shift the shame, guilt and anger to something more productive.
Today's guest Natalie Hixson brings vulnerability to a topic that is still taboo. You'll love her willingness to tell her story of anger as it mirrors the stories of so many of us behind closed doors. Her desire to help others become "one no moms" is refreshing and her tips and strategies are sure to give you some guidance if you're feeling that anger bubble up daily.

With a ton of giddy excitement, I'm welcoming Allie back to the podcast and our conversation goes deep into the difficulties of finding and keeping friends when you're a mom. We put so much of our energy into our homes, our families and our partners, we're often left with a void that is only filled by true, lasting friendships.
Today, Allie is shining a light on how to make friends not only as a mom, but how to do it when you've moved away. Whether you've chosen to pick up and move across the country, a job has relocated you, or the military has brought you to a variety of new places, this episode is a great encouragement to step out of your bubble to find friendships of all kinds with women who are also looking for another adult to call friend.

I'll admit, I'm not a hoverer. I've always been independent and want to raise my children to be the same. Because of this, I consider myself a submarine parent: you know, the kind that sits below the surface, comes up to check on things every now and then, and goes back below the surface if all is good.
This isn't a judgement of anyone else's parenting style. Quite the opposite. This is the confession of a parent that tries to ride the line between overbearing and totally passive. We're all in this together, mamas. (and no matter how you're parenting your children, we'll all eventually just find ourselves fishing a Cheerio out of someone's nose in the middle of the night.)

Motherhood is a journey and we're all on our own path, so why are we so focused on what everyone else is doing? We've become obsessed with keeping up with other moms who are trying to keep up with other moms who are trying to keep up with other moms. It's a cycle of comparison that is disempowering and fruitless.
Let's instead compare ourselves to others only when it empowers us to do better and encourages us that if she can do it, so can I. It's time for us to run (or walk, or crawl, or waddle) our own races, mamas.

We're so busy trying to keep our promises and our word to our children, our spouses and our friends that we let self-integrity fall by the wayside.

We have a culture of motherhood suffering, struggle and sacrifice. What if it didn't HAVE to be this difficult? What if we started asking for and expecting help and stopped complaining about the help that we do get? You don't have to be a martyr to be a wonderful (and productive) mom!

Kids are messy. Motherhood is messy. Life is messy. Maybe it's time for us to be grateful for the beautiful things in life that create messes instead of waiting around for the messes to go away? Cleaning doesn't have to be a burden, it can be a means to an end: the end being joy.

Today, I'm breaking down 3 of the biggest reasons your routines aren't working and how you can start shifting that TODAY. Your routines should fit into your life, not the other way around.

"We are very good judges for the mistakes of others and very good defense lawyers for our own mistakes." -Nicky Gumble
We live in a very judgmental mom culture, where there is always someone to let you know you're making a mistake or the wrong choice. Mommy judgement is alive and well, but what about also discussing our own judgements of others and ourselves?
Today, I want to have an honest and open discussion about judgement. What it really means, where it really comes from and how we can start to pull away from people in our lives that have nothing but judgmental things to say to us on the regular.

Would you consider yourself a worrier? I used to be and call myself a recovering worrier now. After years of deep work, I know now that my worry was caused not by anxiety, but rather the opposite was occurring: my need to control situations was the cause of the anxiety I felt.
Motherhood is a never-ending story of possible worry and overthinking about what could go wrong, but I've found that no amount of that overthinking makes it any easier and rarely do our worst thoughts even come true.
Today's episode is my story and a vulnerable look into how it feels to live inside your own head even when you know logically how ridiculous it is.

Self-care is a hot issue right now in the motherhood community and rightfully so. Moms, more than any other, are often left feeling depleted as we care for those around us and make excuses for why we can't care for ourselves. No more.
Today, I want to give you an honest and raw look at what I do everyday to care for myself above anyone else. When I'm at my best, I'm able to give my best. Although my family is my world, I will be with myself until the end and it's important that I care for my needs first so I can truly and without resentment care for others.

Around every corner in motherhood, there seems to be another thing to be afraid of. But what would our lives look like if we stopped making our everyday decisions out of fear? Fear of the unknown, fear of failure, fear of success, fear of being judged? We don't have to throw caution to the wind and live recklessly in order to enjoy a life where our decisions are based more on love than on fear.

It's a new year, mamas and that means it's time to reflect on the last 365 days and make plans for the time ahead of us. I'm not into resolutions (as heard in a previous episode.) I concentrate on intentional goals and creating a word of the year that sparks purpose in my life.

How is it possible that we're at the end of 2018 already? Didn't we just start?
With the end of the year coming up fast, resolutions are all the rave. Everyone has one (or ten) to set, but inevitably, most will be completely abandoned by February 1. I've fallen victim to it myself, which is why I quit the resolution game many years ago.
I'm a goal oriented person and love to challenge myself to improve and change. While I don't set up resolutions to start off my year, I do create other intentions and plans to keep me on track and growing.

To balance, by definition, means to distribute weight evenly or keep in a steady position so it doesn't fall. That doesn't sound like the kind of carefree and exciting way I want to run my business, run my home or mother my children. I've heard so much about "work/life balance" since I became a mother and entrepreneur and quite honestly, I don't practice it.
Whether you're trying to do it all and exhausting yourself by trying to walk the tightrope of work and home, or children and marriage, or work and personal, this episode is meant to encourage you to embrace the harmony of life through systems, not perfect and equal balance.

When I started Mother Like a Boss, I knew there was one area that I wasn’t going to pretend to be an expert in: parenting. While I’ve learned a lot over the years, I wanted to bring positive parenting experts to my audience that are teaching parenting from a place of positivity and happiness.
Today, I’m so thrilled to introduce you to Rachel Bailey of Redefining Perfect Parenting. This interview is really more of a candid discussion between two moms who believe wholeheartedly is helping moms become confident in their abilities through better communication, happiness and positivity.
Rachel is spilling some serious knowledge and truth bombs on everything from the role that cognitive development plays into chores to letting our children feel a range of emotions and teaching them to ride them out. If you’re ready to redefine perfect parenting, come along for a listen.

There is a heartbreaking trend I am seeing: Moms who don’t take the time to live their best lives because they are two wrapped up in helping others live theirs. You are deserving of a beautiful year and an even more beautiful life, but no one is going to do it for you. It takes dreaming, and declaration, and action. So today, I’m making a special announcement for the moms out there that are ready to live their best mom year, free from resolutions they won’t commit to or achieve. With the holiday season and cooler weather (at least where I live) comes the runny noses and scratchy throats. But no matter what time of year it is, being sick or caring for someone in your home that's sick is no fun.
A "sick kit" should really be called a "well kit" because that's the goal. The goal of a sick kit is to keep the things on hand that we'll need to get well, so we're not making those late night trips to the drug store or scrambling for what we need.
In today's episode, I'm getting into the details of creating a kit or basket for your home and for your family.

It’s beginning to look a lot like…stress?
I love the holidays so much and the last few months of the year are my favorite, but I also understand that with that comes the possibility of stress and exhaustion.
When I became a mom, I really wanted to make the holiday season as fun for our little family as possible and in the process, took on too many things and let my boundaries fall away. Running my home is something I have come to love more than most things in my life. I get a lot of satisfaction out of living in a home that feels managed and unburdened by stress. There are a few key habits I've formed that help me do that.
Today, I'm pulling back the curtain and sharing 5 things I do everyday (ish. Everyday-ish...) that keep my home running like a well-oiled machine and not like my '93 Toyota Tercel. These habits have been formed over time, after a lot of trial and error. They keep us on track as a family and me on track as a mom, wife and business CEO.

Pregnancy and motherhood can do a number on our bodies and spirits, much of which is unexpected. It can feel scary which makes it ever more important to honor this time and advocate for ourselves and our health.
I’m honored to have Catherine Middlebrooks on the podcast today to discuss the importance of self-advocacy in women. She also has an exciting story of traveling the country in an RV with her husband and two kids. Her story is a laced with adventure and we have a great discussion about doing all the things you desire, even when you’re scared.

I have a pretty strict philosophy in my home: if it can be done at night rather than in the morning, I'm doing it. I love my nighttime routine with all my heart because it allows me to go to bed, set up for success for the next day before it even begins. I want to make future me proud of present me and not grumpy for having to start the morning off in chaos.
Today, we're talking not only about the importance of having a great evening routine, but how you can start to create one that you can stick to and fall in love with.

I took a very deep breath as I hit publish on this episode. I’m raw, I’m vulnerable, I’m speaking my truth and telling my story. My journey from a young and naive 22 year old pregnant college drop out to mom boss CEO now has not been without it’s issues and hurdles. In fact, the path has been littered with roadblocks and navigating them has taught me the true meaning of grace.
My story is an important part of my greater mission to reach moms where they are now and empower them to be the best version of themselves. I hope you hear my words (through held back tears at many points) and let them inspire you to go forth in your mom journey with confidence.

We're deviating a bit from the lightheartedness of Mother Like a Boss to discuss a pretty important topic: toxic relationships.
We know them. We've been a part of them in some form. They strip us of joy and keep us wrapped up in stress.
This episode is my call out to all my sweet mamas that are dealing with or engaged in toxic relationships right now, whether in the home, with family, at work or with friends. You deserve better. You can make the choices to eliminate the toxic parties and relationships from your life.

There is no denying the power of literature and reading as it applies to raising our kiddos, but how many of us are thinking about this intentionally? How many of us parents are looking to build intentional bookshelves for our children that mirror the values we want to instill in them?
I'm pleased to have Samantha Munoz of Addison Reads on the show to discuss the importance of cultivating a purposeful library in our homes and how literature can help us with a myriad of parenting issues. Samantha is throwing down her best tips and tricks for choosing books that light you up and how to organize them without the need for expensive shelves and decor.

I've always been what society would consider a "working mom" although my belief is that every mom is a working mom. Since my oldest daughter was a tiny little bean inside my belly, I have owned and operated my very own business. Since going all in with Mother Like a Boss and ending my cleaning business almost 17 months ago, my schedule has dramatically changed.
Although my schedule may not look similar to yours, I wanted to give you a glimpse inside my day-to-day routines, how I worked at home before my son was in school and how it works now. Even if you don't run a business or work from home, I hope this episode is encouraging to moms of all types who want a better handle on daily routines and habits.

The last 8 years of my life has been spent opening my mind up fully to the idea of how abundant our universe is and therefore, how abundant we are in life. We live with pure abundance all around us and have the ability to live from a place of unlimited possibilities, especially as mothers and yet we’re surrounded by lack mindset, lack vocabulary, lack beliefs.
The very idea of motherhood is abundant. We birth or become the caretakers of other human beings and have the capacity to open our hearts to them. It’s like love sprouts of of no where. That’s true abundance and the more we embrace that, the more enjoyable our everyday (sometimes seemingly mundane) lives will feel.

Today's mindset shift is brought to you by the ability to clean without dragging your feet and having a toddler-like temper tantrum. We've all been there, giving the side-eye to the daily cleaning and negatively discussing how much it sucks. It doesn't have to and the more you perpetuate that belief, the more you'll find yourself hating it.
Cleaning isn't a punishment for living in your home anymore than brushing your teeth is a punishment for eating. It's a privilege to have full lives where messes occur. Change your mindset, change your life.

Motherhood, like life, is a series of ever-changing seasons. There are ebbs and flows, and sometimes curveballs we didn’t expect. The key isn’t to learn how to avoid the changes, but how to roll with them.
I had the pleasure of inviting Meagan Francis on the show today, a mom of 5 and one half of the wildly popular podcast The Mom Hour. We talk about her start in the mom blogosphere and our similar takes on the often dangerous “hot mess mom” culture.
Meagan throws down a lot of truth and doesn't hold back. Our conversation was honest and open about the realities of motherhood and how to get through them without being a martyr.

Today's mindset shift is all about eliminating the sabotaging behaviors we all fall into. Whether it’s perfectionism, that nagging pull to procrastinate or just a pervasive desire to completely go against what you know is best, self-sabotage completely interferes with our ability to achieve amazing goals.
Time to love ourselves fully and stop the sabotaging behavior.

Our lives aren't always as cookie-cutter as we had planned them to be. Life as a mom can be messy and unpredictable. Between work schedules, extracurriculars, sports, partners that travel and a myriad of other things that pop up each day, our day-to-day tasks can be unpredictable. So how do you stick to a solid routine when you don't live a routine life?
In this episode, I'm introducing the idea of a "floating routine" and how helpful it can be for keeping your life running smooth (ish) even if your daily life and schedule doesn't feel conductive to routines. The more out-of-control your life feels, the more routines will save you.

When I put a call out to my audience to see what topics you most wanted to hear about, this answer struck me in such a hilariously real way: "Can you do an episode on how to chill out as a mom?" Could that be filled with anymore truth about how motherhood feels sometimes?
You asked, I answered. This episode is a tribute to the chill and how to achieve it in motherhood and home management. There is no greater burden in our lives than feeling stressed and out of control. In this episode, I tackle how to let go of control and how to embrace the ever changing (and ever-chaotic) seasons of motherhood without freaking out.
Let's chill, girl.

Busy is the new fine.
How many times do you answer "BUSY!" when someone asks how you are. Not, "Wonderful. Lovely. Super excited for this life. Peaceful. Calm. Wishing I had a taco right now." No, instead, it's "Really busy."
Mel Robbins said it best when she truthfully bombed us with, "Business is the ultimate form of laziness. Staying busy is our way of avoiding the things we really need to do."
I've committed my life to being full and productive, not busy. I want to fill my minutes with efficiency, not bleed them dry until my entire family is fall-down exhausted.
This episode will take you through the differences between business and productivity and how to become productive with the time you have. No more idle busy work for you, mama.

I'm right at the edge of a brand new season in my life and for our family; a season unlike any I have had in the past. This season is one of change in the form of kids entering new schools and me having more time. Don't be fooled. More time isn't always a good thing. More time just means more time to waste if we're not intentional with it.
This episode is all about how I'm embracing this new season and how you can do the same, with whatever season life has for you now. Change can feel scary and overwhelming because of the unexpected, but we can embrace change and the adventures it brings.
And speaking of new seasons, I'm also sharing how the podcast is getting a facelift this fall and what you can expect from our new and improved weekly lineup. My mission is to serve you in every way I can, and this new format speaks directly to that mission.
Finally, I want to give shout you all out and use all the praise hand emojis here. The Mother Like a Boss Podcast has hit 200,000 downloads in it's first 7 month and YOU made that happen. You listened, you shared, you came back week after week. I'm grateful in ways I can't even express. Thank you for being a part of this journey and for trusting me each week. You the real MVPs, mamas!

Excuses, excuses. We're all full of them, and after a while it can become difficult to tell the difference between our excuses and reality. Excuses are very different than explanations. Excuses keep us victims of our own circumstances.
For years, I made excuses for why I wasn't able to get things done the way other people could in various parts of my life. My excuses kept me stuck, but comfortable. This episode is a kick in the butt for anyone that wants to break free of the excuse-making cycle and take control of their own life.

We're doing things a little different this summer when it comes to interviews. Rather than bring on an expert in a particular field, I invited real moms with real struggles to come on the show to share with us what they are going through in motherhood and at home. Sometimes, just hearing another mom ask a question that you've always had is exactly the thing you need to motivate you toward change and improvement.
Today, I have the pleasure of introducing you to Micah Paschall, a Mother Like a Boss student with a beautiful heart and story. It takes a brave woman to discuss her past and present feelings about homemaking open and honestly. We had a great chat about making habits and routines stick and I help her to create more non-negotiable chores for her children.

I can't believe it's already time to do a back-to-school episode, but here we are. Time, it is a flyin' always. I know that most moms start the year off with the year off with the best of intentions. "This is the school year that I get our collective ish organized and staying that way!" and then by mid-October, you're in full-on chaos mode and not sure how you got there.
Today's episode is aimed to help you start, and keep a system that will make this the most organized school year yet. Start now and thank yourself in December when you've still got it all together, running smoothly.

I've been a journaling gal since the time I could write. I loved having diaries. I loved having beautiful journals and #allthepens to write with. Writing has always been cathartic for me and a great way to achieve the goals I set for myself. Journaling brings me closer to who I want to be.
But listen, I know journaling can seem extremely overwhelming. What do you write? How long do you write? What kind of journal is best? Should I use prompts? What if I am drawing a blank here? Today, I'm pulling back the curtain of my daily journaling practice and giving you the scoop on how this simple habit has helped me become a better mom, a more successful business owner and a happier woman all around.

I see you over there, mama. Guilt-ridden every time you say no and always want to please others. You wonder how you can feel better about what you say yes to and how you can live a life that feels more joy-filled and less resent-driven. The answer is boundaries.
I am what I like to call a "boundary ninja" but it hasn't always been that way. I spent many years of my life letting people in my business and personal life walk all over me for fear of stepping up and saying no. A boundary is the ultimate show of love, as you can say yes and be open wholeheartedly without resentment or anger.
This episode is all about helping you build your emotional fence high enough so that the only people coming in are the ones you have allowed.

I love summer. Aside from the humidity and obnoxious mosquitos, the summer is such a wonderful time to spend together as a family. But as we all know, we start the summer with the best of intentions to do #allthethings and end the summer with the realization that all we did was sit inside next to the AC waiting for school to start again.
A summer bucket list is an excellent way to prepare for the months ahead by deciding what you really want to be doing as a family. In this episode, I'm talking about how we do it in our home and how it's helped us create a summer schedule full of fun without the chaos and FOMO.

Friends, I have a confession to make: While I usually have a lot of my stuff together, last summer was a real wake up call for me. As a mama who always worked outside of the home, my first summer as a full time work-at-home mom was challenging. Summer (and any season changes in nature and our life) forces us to switch up our routines, for better or worse.
Today's episode is a discussion about how to cultivate a productive summer at home with the kids, while also having fun! There is no need to fall down the rabbit hole of chaos and distress during the summer months. Learn from my mistakes and let's grow together, mama!

Perfectionism is a dirty little secret that a lot of us moms keep everyday. Whether it keeps you in a state of paralysis or shows up as procrastination, perfectionism steal our joy and stops us from making progress.
Effort however is far different than perfection. Effort feels good. The end result feels comforting, even if it's not the "perfect" outcome. You can give your all without the need to be perfect. Perfection comes from the outside. Idealism comes from the inside.

I have always been a person who knows the power of the written word. I embrace that a good book can change our lives if we let it. Over the years, I've read many a book that helped me reach new levels of awesomeness, but none as much as the book I am discussing today.
It is because of Jen Sincero's You Are a Badass that I have transformed by life, my business, my relationship with my kids and my my relationship with myself. Today, I am sharing why this book is so important to me and why I am constantly recommending it to anyone that will listen.

I've said it before and I will say it again, the most important person in your life is YOU. Did that make you feel all sorts of weird? We've been fed a line as moms that everyone else should come before us, when in reality, putting yourself first is the most compassionate thing you can do for others.
When I'm in a place of alignment with my own self, I show up as a more amazing mom, wife, friend, mentor, sister and human being. This episode is dedicated to the mom that has been in last place on her to-do list for too long. It's time to go first, friend. Want more from this episode? We live in a time where there is (thankfully) a lot of talk about self-care. But what happens when you're in a mom that's not into pedicures and massages? How do you make sure you are taken care of? I had the pleasure of interviewing Shelly Robinson from Alively and I know you will fall in love with her as much as I have.
As the founder of Alively, a self-care subscription box, Shelly is on a mission to spread hope and wellness to moms so that they know down to their core that they are worthy of a happy, purposeful life. We're discussing how to put yourself first as a mama in traditional and non-traditional ways and how to create a mindset of worthiness so you can be the best for everyone else.

The postpartum season of life brings about a lot of joy, a lot of tears and many times, a lot of emotions we aren't prepared for. In my care, that emotion was anxiety. After waiting 6 years to have another baby, I was thrust back into baby mode and honestly, wasn't prepared. I spent many nights sobbing, wondering how I was ever going to get back on track. My new routines (and a whole lot of grace) saved me.
While routines will not be the fix for all moms in this difficult stage, especially those dealing with crippling depression, it gave me more peace than I had in a long time. The predictability of my routines gave me strength and handed me some of the control I felt like I lost when I gave birth to my precious boy.
This is another heart-driven episode that I am honored to share with you. Want more from this episode? Head over to www.motherlikeaboss.com/podcast/029 for the full show notes, all the deets and more goodies.

"Ok. I know I need better routines. I'm ready for this. I'm gonna do it. I am mom, hear me roar. Uh...so...where do I start?"
I've been there. Starting something new and wanting to stick to it can be tough, but I've learned a thing or two over the years about how to truly begin a winning routine that will create ease and joy in your home.
Remember, your routines should fit into your life, not the other way around. Let's do this together, mama!

As mamas, we like to think we have our priorities in order. Obviously, our kids take top billing, but what about the other very important people in our lives, like ourselves?! Priorities can be tricky because we convince ourselves that they are set in stone when in reality, our priorities can change day to day, even minute to minute. What's more important than sticking to one set "most important thing" is realizing what is most important to you in the moment and staying the course with that. This episode dives into the feelings and emotions behind our priorities and how we can make better choices (and set better boundaries) to be certain that every step we take is with intention and purpose. I'm pretty intent on living my best homemakerish life and a big part of making that happen is setting clear and intentional goals for my home and life. Goals don't need to be grandiose. They don't need to feel like unattainable dreams. Goals are nothing more than the end result you want to achieve. They are the last stop on the GPS. Where are you headed and where do you want to end up? You can't plot your course if you don't know where you want to be.
This episode is all about how I set goals for my home, my business, my family and my life and the process I take to ensure that I actually achieve those goals (rather than procrastinating watching yet another episode of Breaking Bad for the 19th time...) There may be nothing that moms in our world need more than a heaping spoonful of grace. We're bombarded with images of perfectionism wherever we turn and knowing when to give ourselves the grace not to give into that is a beautiful thing.
But what happens when the grace we give ourselves and others becomes a cycle of excuses? What happens when the seasons of life we've been struggling through aren't seasons anymore, but just out life? Are we truly giving ourselves grace, or are we swinging to the other side of the pendulum by making excuses to avoid our fear of failure in any area of our life?

It's that most wonderful time of the year for your house. It's time for spring cleaning. Time to break out the extra cleaning supplies, roll up your sleeves and get to work...or not.
I have a different approach to spring cleaning. It doesn't need to be done in the spring. In fact, it should get done multiple times a year to save you the arduous task of having to spend entire weekends scrubbing and wiping for hours on end.
In this two part episode, I'm going to break down how to go about your spring(ish) cleaning, whether you're getting down to it in early April or late October, or both.

Truth be told, I really hate paperwork. I love to organize it, but I hate having it clutter up my home and my life. My husband and I have an unspoken rule in our house that we will keep the papers to a minimal, but that can be really difficult for people who hold on to the notion that papers are more important than they actually are.
Today's episode is all about my journey to minimize the amount of paperwork we bring into and keep in our home. If our family of 4 (2 of whom own businesses) can do it, you can too, mama!

How often do you feel like you're just going through the motions of motherhood? Where there used to be intention, there seems now to be a discouraging cycle that you don't even remember becoming a part of. Today, I'm pleased to have my friend Kelsey Van Kirk on to have an open and honest discussion about what purposeful motherhood looks like and her feelings about being created for the life we live.
We veer away from the normal "Here's a bunch of tips." kind of episode and instead get to the heart of the matter. We also dive into perfectionism and how it is ridding us women of joy and purposefulness.

How often do you sit around waiting to be hit with a rush of motivation to do what you know you should do (but don't want to) only to realize that motivation just isn't coming? Motivation is a desire or willingness to do something, but what do you know about the 99% of tasks in your life you have no desire to do, but know you need to? That's where momentum comes in. This is a topic I preach quite a bit to my students, because waiting for motivation to do something you don't want to do is a procrastination technique. In this episode, I'm getting real about why momentum is the real key to productivity and ending procrastination.

We live abundantly full lives as moms, and sometimes our to-do lists read more like novels than easy-to-follow reminders. I used to be obsessed with list making and even call myself a recovering junkie. The truth is, I used my to-do lists as a way to procrastinate what I actually needed to do. Rather than continue down the path of too many things, let's uncomplicate our lists and make room for more joy and freedom. This episode is full, but one that I know you can use to help implement less cluttered to-do lists into your life.

I decided a long time ago (well, when I started having kids, really) that I wouldn’t be the only one in the house cleaning, doing laundry to tidying up. I wanted to create a community in our home, one where everyone does there part based on what they are capable of. This is exactly what we’ve done and with an 11 and 5 year old, I am able to step back and let them help.
Not only does creating cleaning routines and chores for your children take the load off of the parents, it’s a learning experience for them as well. I’m a big believer in creating responsible little humans who understand that their messes are their responsibility, and that when we all work together, things get done faster. It isn’t always easy, but I’m going to share some of my best tips for raising kids who help around the house (without you having to nag nag nag)
