“Freedom is a state of needlessness and acceptance.”
Today I share in a heartfelt discussion on the oneness that sadhana unfolds and the unending polarities of life, beginning with celebration and despair.
My dear friend Truus Breukers (Tripti) is a registered nurse, holds a master's in child psychology, and is a children’s book author living between Northern India and the Netherlands in a “dynamic exchange”. She is a creator, a hiker, a wife, a friend, a generously giving spirit and she is a sadhak.
In our satsang, we discuss experience on “two tracks”, how important friends are on this path, holding space, defining freedom and how much meditation works!
I hope you enjoy Tripti’s expression as much as I do.
in oneness,
Bobbi

Swami Svatmananda’s teaching style makes the elusive ancient wisdom accessible to all who earnestly seek it.
In our talk together we discuss studying the Vedas practically, how essential is the teacher, having time for contemplation, ending suffering and so much more!

“Buddhists always consider new people as friends. Not the other way around, we should see each other as friends. It makes the world a better place.”
In this episode, I’m talking to Magnus Fridh, a teacher of yoga, mindfulness, and meditation. Magnus is also one of the founders of The Mindfulness App. His latest book, “The Art of Stillness in a Noisy World” (Hardie Grant), is about how to find tranquillity and peace in everyday life.
Magnus started meditating in his teens and immersed himself in the subject through Tibetan Buddhism and university studies in Indology.
Magnus and I discuss the power of meditation to anchor us in life's ups and downs, the many doorways into stillness, and both the science of meditation and the philosophy of compassion that can help get us out of rumination and into the ananda maya kosha. We also discuss trusting the hyper-focus of ADHD and how yoga off the mat in the coming years is more important than ever.

“What are the ethical implications of yoga being used by these racially oppressive, colonial forces and being used to help people who are agents of that oppression feel better and decompress and destress?”
I am honoured to introduce you to this week's guest, Sheena Sood, PhD, an Assistant Professor of Sociology, activist, yoga practitioner, and healing justice visionary. Sheena is on the editorial board of Race & Yoga Journal; is a co-founder of Yogis for Palestine - and the founder of Yoga Warrior Tales. Her research is focused on what she calls Omwashing; the weaponization of yoga by far-right imperialist forces and military and policing institutions.
Sheena gives incredible insight and uncomfortable facts to direct our attention, contemplation and action toward the “deeply unfree world” in which we all participate.
We dig into the important topic and difficult reality of the oppressive systems in power along with the responsibility yoga practitioners have to examine and question them if we sincerely wish to shift the collective towards liberation and embodied freedom for all.

“We have both always been searching for something that gave us purpose and meaning, to fill that whole and guidelines to live after.”
Raw. Real. Totally Joyful.
Richard Grønlie and Line Sortehaug made a huge impression when I met them earlier this year. They are a Norwegian married couple with three kids, they are yoga teachers, and they are addicts.
Their story is one of transformation and redemption. They share their views on life, yoga, recovery and how to handle the ups and downs that will inevitably come our way. Richard and Line walk the talk, they are role models to anyone struggling with addiction, in any capacity. And also a reminder to us all that another way of life is always, always possible.

“Being truly conscious requires stepping back from compulsions and attachments - a change in the operating system. And sometimes we need a helping hand for that. We can’t do it alone, nor should we have to.”
For me, the healing, the coming home, starts with shame. And is currently seeped in gratitude.
In this solo episode, I share my personal story woven together with words from wise teachers and thinkers. Borrowed from the sages, saints and sponsors who have inspired my own inquiry into addiction, mental health and healing, I share my take aways from 6 years of sobriety.
The intention in this honest, and unpolished episode is to share my hope, courage and strength for any other yogis or seekers out there struggling with addictions, compulsions and their own "stinking thinking".
Let’s all remember Swamiji’s words; “God lives in the effort.”

“Take that 7 minutes (meditation) a day. And nurture it like a little seedling and watch how it grows into the beautiful plant of oneness and watch how it oozes out into your life.”
This week's guest is Mayank in New Zealand, he is first and foremost a yogi and meditator. He teaches Somatics, Restorative Movement & QiGong at the Wisdom of Meditation Centre in Te Horo, New Zealand.
Mayank and I discuss his story of growing up in a religious home and talk about the expanded meaning of the “G” word (GOD!). Mayank graciously shares his lifetime of study and meditation in India and how to live our awareness practically, in a life filled with many ups and downs.
He shares with me on how to “build the relationship” with meditation over time, so that “meditation does me, I don’t do meditation.”

"A very very important practice that has to be included in our lives is to not believe our thoughts. Any thought that comes in and makes you unhappy be sure it is untrue."
Wow wow wow! This episode was incredibly delightful to record and edit because it is packed to the brim with knowledge rooted in freedom and can be applied practically without any struggle.
A jewel in my podcast treasure chest and a real privilege to introduce you to Shaarda, a Shashtri Scholar with a PhD in Vedant, a poet, a photographer, a lover of India, a fellow satsangee and a wise friend who showers us with knowledge in this conversation.
Shaardaji and I get right into why we need spiritual people, her experience of meeting Swamiji, the most important practice of attending the knower, the second most important practice of never believing your thoughts and asking ourselves…what is it that we really want?
Trust me, dear curious yogi, this is one of the most charming and practical episodes for anyone who never wants to be unhappy.
Sit down and relax with Shaarda and I.

In this episode, I’m talking to Simon Jalonen, or Nurse Yogi as you might know him.
Simon is a registered nurse, a yoga practitioner and a certified teacher.
Simon is also my partner in freedom and in life and it was such a joy to have his perspective and lived wisdom on a Curious Yogi. He is a Swede of few words, but yes, those words are very carefully selected and wonderful.
Our conversation today is focused on Seva or selfless service, healthcare work and charity. Where do they all intersect with our sadhana or spiritual lives?

“Meditation is not for being relaxed or gaining some expertise. It’s for recognizing that space as yourself - then you are not fearful of the beginning or end because you recognize yourself as Pure Free and Forever.”
In this episode, I’m talking to Alka Srivastava, an extraordinarily advanced meditator and total master who has devoted her life to unfolding Self-awareness. Alka is the youngest daughter of Swami Shyam, founder of the International Meditation Institute in the Himalayas of India.
She has been meditating and singing since age three and has spent her life studying the ancient scriptures as illuminated by Swamiji. In this special episode Alka shares her knowledge and wisdom in a way that applies to all who wish to find that inner sense of peace and knowing who they truly are.

“If you get rid of what you’re not you suss out what you are. Whatever you’re left with is you. And it’s the same with meditation.”
Another mind-stretching conversation with teacher and spiritual friend Stewart Gilchrist. We recorded this in Rishikesh during Stew's retreat and it is such a joy and privilege to share it with you.
We cover a lot of terrain in this packed episode. Here’s a peek:
➖ Hinduism and Hindutvas
➖Santana Dharma or the Eternal Truth and understanding the ancient aspects of yoga
➖Why people do yoga to get fit and what they're missing
➖What will be the saviour of modern yoga
➖Neti Neti and meditation
➖Understanding the kleshas, particularly abhinevesha
➖The Guru Shishya relationship
➖Mooladhara and communitarianism
And ultimately our conversation revolves around getting in touch with your true Self, the eternal truth.

"It's the daily practice of meditation without expectation. It's not a wish-fulfilling cow that if you meditate you'll have a great day. It's the practice of placing the identification on that meditation state as who you are."
A loaded, joyful episode filled with satsang and conversation with my dear friend and fellow yogi Anandi Brownstein - a cinematographer and documentary director who shares her lived wisdom with us from a lifetime of meditating and growing up in the Himalayas of India.
We surf on some profound concepts and share each of our unique perspectives. Nandi shares her thoughts on life and practice that we can all begin to think about for ourselves;
➖cultivating inner expansiveness as a brilliant tool to move effortlessly in the world;
➖the yogic work of purification and expansion;
➖ maintaining peace as an individual;
➖why confusion happens and how to get out of it and;
➖not identifying with any limiting idea that confines you.
She also reads a verse from Sri Nisaragadatta Maharaj’s book of discourse called “I am That” and we discuss Josh Scheri’s podcast “The Emerald”.

Today I’m joined live in Sainj Valley, Himachal Pradesh, with a wonderful teacher, satsangee and great human being who I’m honoured to call my friend - Vijay Shyam. Check out season 1 episode 5 for the first conversation we had on the podcast, where Vijay shares his stories and insights and his meeting with Baba Vivekanand almost 40 years ago.
As Vijay and I adventured for a few days in the Himalayas, we had a special meeting with this very same Baba before we recorded this episode. As we discuss what we’re experiencing and understanding in our own sadhana, highlighted by the teachings of our shared Guru, Babaji, and other enlightened beings, I’ve clipped in some of our talk with Babaji from his little room at the temple.
Here are some of the major points we circle on:
➖08:55 Place everything at the feet of Guru
➖16:52 The world will keep pushing your buttons
➖18:01 How to be like the trees meditating
➖22:09 Grief of death and knowing unborn
➖34:30 We are the eternal Being, not beings
➖42:35 Babaji and Zero-ness - just empty your thoughts
➖49:29 Burning karm and don’t interfere with nature
➖55:42 Guidance is important - hold somebody’s hand to walk this road
➖61: 50 Surrender everything, even Sattwa or goodness
➖1:08:10 Making any being less than God is a kind of violence
Connect with Vijay Shyam at www.nondual.dk www.linktr.ee/vijayshyam108
This delightful and deep conversation focuses on egolessness, surrender, death and living a truly illuminated life of oneness by knowing all as God, or Guru. This truly celebrates the highest knowledge, great company and another successful season of A Curious Yogi Podcast.
So sit back, relax, and come to the Himalayas with Vijay and me. I look forward to seeing you next season.
In oneness,
Bobbi

“Nothing can teach us more about yoga than being in the presence of a yogi.”
Today’s guest is the founder and director of AyurYoga Eco-Ashram Krishna Chaitanya. Having lived and studied in ashrams, seeking the wisdom of Guru's for 12 years, he has been trying to understand what it means to be spiritual from a realistic standpoint and made it his mission to unlearn everything he learned over the years.
In this enlightening conversation, Krish shares his vision of living and studying yoga and spirituality. Here are some of the highlights:
➖08:45 The highest gift is spiritual knowledge
➖14:04 A space for yoga not in the extremes but rather focuses on freedom
➖19:00 How to experience life without feeling the world is a problem
➖24:51 How life traps us
➖35:40 Offending students with talk of spiritual hypocrisy
➖51:07 Personalizing our practice to our needs, not wants
➖1:01:15 What is selfless service really?
Find Krish HERE: www.ayuryoga-ashram.com
I really enjoyed celebrating my own yoga and teaching journey, which was expanded during my time at Ayuryoga Ashram back in 2020. I promise you’ll find something from this conversation for your practice (and your life).

“Life as the unfoldment of bliss through the journey of self enquiry - this was the only thing that made sense to me.”
Today’s brilliant conversation is a peek into the lesser-known and profound Avadhoot Gita with a very special yogi, author, musician and teacher, Seegla Vistar Brecher. The Avadhoot Gita of Dattatraya: Song of the Unborn is a deep, meditative exploration of a 9th-century Advaita Vedanta text. Vistar offers her unique vision and interpretation of the Avadhoot and reveals the essence behind our collective, universal journey.
We touch on so much! But here are a few key moments:
➖13:50 Vistars Sadhana, how do you live the freedom you know exists?
➖18:38 Advadhoot describes all pairs of opposites of the human condition and transcends them
➖26:41 Reading Chapter 6 verse 3: The mind as blissful
➖36:24 The essence of the practice is when you know there is no separation between you and the world
➖46:26 The choice of the yogi is to walk through the portal
➖56:13 Reading Chapter 7 verse 9: The yogi is both free from yog and lack of yoga
➖1:02:31 Reading Chapter 7 verse 4: Where does the unease come from?
You can connect with Vistar at rahasyageet.com and find her music HERE
And I highly recommend grabbing your own copy of The Avadhoot Gita of Dattatraya: Song of the Unborn HERE
Vistar finishes the talk today by letting us know what is the greatest practice of a yogi - to watch. Ah, so refreshing, illuminating, inspiring and spacey - this is one of my favourite episodes yet.

“Patience, finding your teacher, and a community, a community that is led by a higher goal, led by purpose, by empathy, togetherness - will help you.”
In this episode, I talk to the ever-fresh and brilliant Prasad Rangnekar. Humble and humorous with a way of connecting the listener to the underlying essence of yoga is, with total clarity, Prasad has been teaching and living those teachings of yoga as a scientific system of spirituality for nearly 30 years.
Today, he gives us a broader context to consider when arriving at the practices and study of yoga, as well as the utmost importance of studentship. I ask him how we can practice yoga today while respecting the roots, the origins, and the culture from which it arises. He amazingly expounds all my questions with analogies and inquiries from which we can all learn.
Here’s just a tiny sample of the key knowledge points:
➖08:20 Yoga as the spiritual, cultural capital of India
➖15:19 There needs to be respect for this grand narrative of yoga
➖20:41 Yoga is an ecosystem
➖33:09 Yoga as a longer path of Self-transformation
➖39:48 The confusion of a “yoga teacher” after a 200-hour training
➖47:42 Recognize the volume of ground we have to cover
➖51:12 Finding your teacher is extremely important, not just a teacher
➖53:15 Sangha is a spiritual community of fellow seekers with a deeper resonance

I left this conversation with my heart open for the yoga we so thoroughly discussed. The yoga which can never, and should never, be extracted in part from the whole, magnificent Self that we all aspire to know and reside in.
Whether you’re a student, teacher or simply curious about what yoga really is, there is something here for you.

Bobbi

Swamiji's words ring true today; "Saadhaana, or practice, is only relevant when you as your source are united to the Whole, and that is called Yog."
Today I share thoughts on the nature of the mind, resolutions or Sankalp, and how social media can keep us in conflict.
I invite you to contemplate the following in your sadhana;
➖ How does your mind work? Why do you think, feel, act, and relate the way you do?
➖ What might your life look like if your resolution was to simply know, accept and love yourself?
➖ What can you turn your attention towards that illuminates the perfection and wholeness of who you are beyond your personality?
Let me know your resolutions and your reflections on where you're free and where you still have work to do.
Thank you for being here, and sharing this path of sadhana together.
Let's keep connected!

Bobbi

“If we can begin to see that there is a power and deep soul connection to that concept which really rings true in all of our hearts at some level, if we clear away or dust away that baggage that gets in way of that reality that we want freedom. All of us. Spiritual and political. And the only way to get there is justice and equality for all peoples.”
This weeks episode is an important one as I share in deep conversation with
Ned Rosch a certified yoga teacher and social justice activist based out of Portland, Oregon. Ned is a graduate of The Center for Mind-Body Medicine’s ‘Healing the Wounds of War’ program, has taught yoga in Gaza in 2014 and 2020 and authored a chapter in the book ‘Stories of Personal Transformation: Reclaiming Judaism from Zionism’
Today we touch on Ned’s spiritual journey, the facts of the current situation of Israel and historical palestine, and he really helps me understand the importance of learning the historical context as a precursor to any action or inaction in a deeply political time. We get into the powerful human impact that Ned has witnessed both during his time in Gaza and his advocacy work in the US. We speak about the discomfort of being a social justice yoga warrior and how important it is for each of us to find purpose and sustainable energy to feel connected to a journey that is meaningful and contributes to justice , peace and the liberation of all people.
Important points:
➖ 14:15 What is zionism?
➖24:16 A cry heard from Jewish supporters of Palestine
➖26:13 How to not feel burn out and connected
➖28:17 Importance of understanding historical context
➖37:08 Where yoga is needed most
➖50:09 Religion is not the problem
➖58:59 Where we have to find meaning
Ned speaks with such pristine clarity that brings our awareness to the heart of conflict - and simulantously to hope and possibility of peace. I invite you to really contemplate the topics Ned and I discuss for yourself - and consider your purpose and your part in that meaningful journey.

Bobbi

“Spirituality exists in daily life. In the bowl of oatmeal, in the cup of tea.”
Today I’m joined by author, sommelier, and practicing Buddhist Keith Robinson. Since childhood, Crohn’s disease has been his life-long nemesis, companion, and teacher. Over his lifetime, Crohn’s brought him to the brink of death many times. Keith began to practice and study Nichiren Buddhist teachings at the age of 13.
This conversation is inspired by Keith’s recent memoir The Buddha in our Bellies, spanning continents and centuries in stories of identity and belonging — we ask ourselves where do we fit?
An illuminating and inspiring read, join Keith, his partner Yoshiko and the Buddha himself, to search for joy and purpose through suffering and despair. I highly recommend finding the book!

Ok you want to live in peace? Me too! Today I touch on the first golden principle of the yamas - ahimsa or non-harming. Plus 4 practical ways to start observing ahimsa in action in your own life.
Here’s what I go over:
➖The basis of ahimsa in theory and natural violence in the world
➖Importance of being established in the Source of all
➖Conscious Consumerism as a non-perfect means of ahimsa
➖Veganism plus sobriety to honor your body, and promote peace for animals and Mother Earth
➖Forget doing, and start BEING of service as a 4th living practice of ahimsa
Remember a most essential element of ahimsa is non-harming to yourself! Which means practicing compassion with your self as you embark on this path. We all slip up and still we’re perfect when united with Self. I hope you take some time to contemplate ahimsa in your own life. Enjoy this one and I hope to meet you online soon.

Today my friend Dr. Petra Sdrinko reminds us to always stay true to our real questions. She’s freed herself of any romantic idea about relationships, life and the world in general. ➖ Looking for the answer to ‘what is God’?
➖ Knowing your perfect when you let go of identification
➖ What Guru represents

Gadi and Alisa (or Gangadhar and Shakti Priya) are dear friends of mine who I have had the delight of getting to know over my many trips to India. I asked Gadi and Alisa on the show to share in conversation about their experience and wisdom of what it means to co-exist in spiritual life and married life.
In this brilliant Satsang and conversation we touch on:
➖The attraction to meditation and spiritual life
➖Importance of finding happiness within yourself
➖The rarity and treasure of connecting with others who value freedom, knowledge and truth
➖How to maintain freedom in any circumstance
Once again, I leave another conversation feeling inspired within my own life and practice. To take the words of Gadi and Alisa and reflect on them in a way that actually goes beyond the words themselves. Enjoy this beautiful talk!
With love and oneness,
Bobbi

“One is to become an unprejudiced observer, a yogi. One is to open up the inner observation which is not able to be confined to any description other than it is pure light, pure consciousness, pure life.”
What a brilliant and detailed conversation lit up by the knowledge of advaita vedanta (non-dualism). Shikhaa has been a huge influence in my life and it was a delight to have her on the show. Based in New Zealand, Shikhaa shares her lifetime of study and wisdom with me and answers my questions about how to live the knowledge, remain in that peaceful state and more!
In this episode we also touch on:
➖ What is advaita vedanta
➖ The nature of the mind as both dualistic and brilliant
➖ Vivek and Vairaagya, the two wings of the bird
➖ Meditation as true wakefulness
➖ How satsang will always lead you back to yourself
Join Shikhaa’s weekly satsang groups here: www.wisdomofmeditation.com
Listen to her kirtan group here: www.spirit-of-kirtan.bandcamp.com
A totally packed chat and satsang in itself. I’d recommend listening to this one as you prepare to step into an inspired meditation practice and take Shikhaa’s words to your heart.

“Simply stay curious. Keep seeking, keep questioning. In sanskrit it’s called the jigyasu, the one who seeks freedom and truth. And it’s a gift of God if you are a seeker so hold it precious and nurture it. Stay true to who you are.”
In today's solo episode I share a glimpse of my own spiritual journey which has moved me out of addiction and into a more peaceful life. I share why you should remember that dissatisfaction is your spiritual super power, plus a few bits of insight I’ve picked up along the way.

“It’s not about abandonment of the world, it's about recognizing the underlying reality of this dynamic world-play that we live in. And what allows the recognition is the moments of quiet, the moments of pause, of stillness which we can cultivate through the yogic practice, the practice of meditation, mantra, and the company we keep.”
A brilliant discussion with Noah Heney, a teacher & yogi who’s devoted his life to unfolding the vision of oneness. Noah touches on his early days which were darkened by substance abuse & depression, and goes on to share his journey from self-destruction to self-transformation.
We also discuss;
➖ Choosing freedom over darkness in life & how to recognize grace
➖ The power of disillusionment in the yogi’s path
➖ What is meditation, awareness and recognition
➖ How the yogi flows like water

“ We may think we are writing the script moment to moment but there may already be a whole story written for us”
Just a few words of wisdom from this weeks guest - author and sadhak Chaytna Feinstein. Celebrating the launch of her brilliant book ‘Predestined’ Chaytna talks to me about her wild overland journey to spiritual India in the 70’s and eventually meeting her Guru, along with what’s kept her steadfast in her practice for the past 45 years.
In this episode we talk about:
➖ Near death experiences, their spiritual impact and why people don't talk about death
➖ The famous overland hippy trail to India during the 70’s
➖ What it means to truly question and seek, and how to know you're moving in the right direction
➖ How to change direction from the physical and go inward where the answers lay
I absolutely loved this conversation with the wise and brilliant Chaytna. I’m sure you’ll find her story and knowledge as inspiring as I did :)

“The thing with sadhana is that you can say the words but with practice the words become more and more true for you.”
I loved this conversation with Katharine Pincham, a vedic and yogic philosophy teacher and inspiring sadhak from London, UK. She shares her story of realizing her spiritual path and the awareness which has never left her, plus some powerful take-aways for never forgetting who you truly are.
In this episode:

➖ Meeting her teacher in India and ultimately recognizing her life as deeply spiritual
➖ Guidance on remembering who we actually are as not only the body
➖ Different approaches to the ideal of “Yog” or unity

“Where the person stops, the power begins...”
How to have faith when we go against our preferences, invite transformation and wonder in the unfoldment of grace?
In this episode I’m talking to Heidi Groschler, or Hirdaya as she’s known. We discuss her story of transformation from a spaced out young person to a celebrated meditation teacher and devoted sadhak living in India for the last 30 years.
Here’s what we discuss:
➖ How and when Hirdaya knew her life was meant to be spiritual as a young girl.
➖ The journey from her Guru’s feet in India to building a meditation center and the transformation that graced her in between.
➖ Where we get stuck, how to drop our preferences and the grace of disillusionment.
➖ How to inquire deeper and shift your dimension to find real satisfaction
➖ Plus a very special, transcendent musical performance of a Krishna chant - hey Govinda, hey Gopal!
I really enjoyed this conversation and it’s my wish that you find as much delight in Hirdayas stories and wisdom as I did.
