Saying that divorce is difficult and stressful is an understatement. Divorce can feel like a battleground fueled by anger and fear. Max Emmer, a skilled, trained collaborative lawyer, is on the podcast to discuss doing divorce differently. Max sheds light on the divorce process, the importance of flexibility, support and creating solutions to support the next chapter of your life.
Growing up in Metro Detroit, Max is committed to and well connected in the area. After leaving Michigan to complete his undergraduate and legal studies, Max returned to Michigan to work in and give back to the community about which he cares so deeply. Max began his legal practice in securities litigation and arbitration representing Fortune 500 companies including financial institutions and insurance companies as well as local and regional banks and organizations. During this time, Max cut his teeth in the legal profession and fine-tuned his skills.
Looking for more meaning in his practice, Max transitioned to family law. Max’s experience in the corporate world informed his ability to mesh his sensitivity about people and their personal and family issues and needs with his understanding of contracts and negotiations. When appropriate, Max is trained and skilled in collaborative divorce and often works with clients to most peacefully and cost effectively achieve a new family dynamic. In cases where collaborative divorce practice is not applicable, Max’s litigation and negotiation skills put his client first, always caring about and prioritizing the well-being and health of any children or dependents involved in a divorce.

Saying that divorce is difficult and stressful is an understatement. Divorce can feel like a battleground fueled by anger and fear.
Andy Heller is on the podcast to discuss his book Take the High Road: Divorce with Compassion for Yourself and Your Family. The book is an accessible guide with real-life stories, expert tips and practical, “doable” strategies that can work.
Andy Heller is a successful businessman and not a divorce professional such as a divorce attorney, mediator, therapist, co-parenting counselor, or the host of other professionals that support and service those going through divorce. Among his professional accomplishments, Andy co-authored two best selling real estate investment books in the 2000s. While the books were well received, Andy had no interest in writing another book.
That decision changed after his own divorce.
While navigating through his own divorce, Andy read countless support books to help him through the process. While helpful, Andy identified a crucial hole in the self-help space for men and women who were dealing with divorce. Andy’s book Take the High Road, Divorce with Compassion for Yourself and Your Family is his give back with a stated goal of making the divorce process easier for those who are considering, or who are on, the divorce path.
Several factors make his book truly groundbreaking. First, Andy brings a businessman’s objective perspective into his counsel. Andy interviewed attorneys, divorcees, therapists, co-parenting counselors, mediators, special masters, and others to arrive at advice and guidance from the leading industry experts. Andy presents guidance in 46 strategies, tools, and tips. When armed with the experience and counsel of these experts - the readers, former spouses, and most importantly their children, can land in a healthier place in the months and years after the conclusion of their divorces.

Nobody likes to get triggered or feel out of control or try “everything” to fix the relationship but feel like nothing changes.
On today’s podcast, I interview somatic marriage coach Becky Aste. We have a candid conversation about how “trying” to fix relationships can just create more mess. Becky explains the tools behind somatic practices that allow you to thrive in relationships, not just survive.
Becky Aste is a trauma-informed marriage coach and the host of “Your Breakthrough Blueprint,” a top 5% globally ranked podcast. She is the CEO and creator of “I Do Breakthrough,” a company dedicated to equipping highly ambitious wives to repair thriving connection in their marriage by moving trauma out of the body.
After spending a decade researching and going through every mainstream modality of healing to save her own marriage, she found herself two kids later, separated from her husband and on the verge of divorce.
At the final hour, she stumbled upon the unconventional game-changer of somatic work that took her marriage from dying to thriving in less than a year and has made it her mission to get this into the hands of every woman possible ever since.
Whether it’s betrayal, addiction, abandonment, abuse, neglect, grief or something else we’ve survived - our body keeps the score and can become an unconscious emotional block to the connection in our marriage, and Becky gets to work with you to clear those blocks OUT.

Trauma is a word we hear a lot about these days, and if there's one thing we can be guaranteed of, it's that we will all experience big and small traumas during this human life.
In this episode, I talk to trauma coach Linsday Poelman about her own journey of healing and understanding trauma. She offers practical ways to start to heal from trauma in your own life.
Having navigated her own Betrayal Trauma journey almost nine years ago, Lindsay found herself deeply entrenched in a dual journey of personal healing while supporting her husband through his recovery from non-functioning anxiety, depression, betrayal trauma, and childhood sexual abuse. This profound experience ignited a passionate pursuit of resources and tools for her own support, eventually leading her to leave behind her career in public and derivative accounting to embark on a transformative path as a life coach.
With over five years of dedicated work in trauma recovery, Lindsay has not only honed her expertise but also embraced a mission to empower others. Through her Full Trauma-Informed Coaching Certification, she equips individuals with the skills and insights to navigate the complexities of trauma with compassion and effectiveness – and integrate into a new career. Moreover, she spearheads an Advanced Relationship Trauma Certification Program for Coaches, collaboratively created with a Trauma Therapist, aiming to cultivate deep and secure healing spaces for clients grappling with trauma.
Lindsay's vision extends beyond individual empowerment; she envisions a world where trauma-informed practices are universally embraced, fostering personal healing and extending vital support to those in need.
Currently residing on the French Riviera with her husband and three children, Lindsay finds joy in the warmth of the sun, the vast expanse of the sea, international cuisine, and spending time with people she loves. Her passion for outdoor adventures, her reverence for Mary Magdalene, and her love for travel all reflect her vibrant spirit and zest for life. Lindsay often muses that if given another life, she would relish being a tour guide, reveling in the joy of exploration alongside other people.

I just want my kids to be ok. I want to feel more in control. I want to know what the right decision is.
If you have asked yourself any of these questions, you are not alone. Parenting is one of the hardest jobs we will ever take on, if not the hardest. And when we are co-parenting, it can feel even harder with more questions, more uncertainty, more confusion.
This episode is a highlight from a conversation I had with Coach Kasia Bradford in her True You Series Event. We discuss how to move through co-parenting in a way that feels good and helps you set your kids up to thrive.

Today’s conversation with Diane Sorensen is an invitation to step into a new dynamic in your relationship with your kiddos. To step back from the traditional parenting paradigm and step into a more connected and collaborative relationship. Diane offers a new perspective to help shift into parenting that feels better.

Just don’t react. Don’t let them see you sweat. Don’t get so upset.
Everyday you may get unsolicited advice about how you SHOULD or SHOULDN’T be acting. But this kind of advice is short sighted and misguided, assuming you can just NOT have emotions or reactions to difficult things.
In this episode Mikki discusses why NOT reacting is not a helpful or attainable goal. Instead, learn to use the emotions and the reactions to move yourself into a more empowered place so you can actually implement positive change.

We all just want our kiddos to be ok, to be happy, to grow up to have a happy life, AND it can feel like co-parenting makes it impossible to be there for our kids to make this happen.
If you find yourself stuck with how to help your kiddos, then this is a great episode for you. Today we're talking to holistic 1:1 youth empowerment coach, Kristi Simons, about some ways that you can support your kiddos and help them thrive… and the great news is that you can use this info, too!
Kristi is a wife, and a mom of two, Hendrix (3 years old) and Beatrix (1 year old). After the birth of her son in 2020, she began imperfectly creating change in her life. These changes, although for a better life, were met with many challenges along the way. Looking back it is clear that the breakdowns she faced were necessary to reveal the breakthroughs that continue to help her on her journey toward living in alignment with what her soul truly desires and to inspire others to do the same.
As a certified bilingual teacher for the last 12 years, Kristi is beginning to truly embody what she is really passionate about teaching and sharing -- healing our bodies, minds, and souls, with practices that allow us to truly come home to our most authentic selves.
Ways she loves sharing her gifts -- check out her podcast "Confident Teen" and her book "Body Bliss Book 2." Co-Parenting isn’t easy for so many reasons. Often we are parenting with a partner who we have ended a long-term relationship with, most likely for really difficult painful reasons.
So getting stuck in the pain, the hurt, the blame and the past is not uncommon. While totally normal, this doesn’t set you up for the growth, collaboration and generous co-parenting you desire.
In this episode, Mikki explores how to learn to cultivate the mindset of generosity in order to create more peaceful and solutions-focused co-parenting.

In this episode, Mikki walks you through the process she uses in her own life to set the intention for the coming year. Setting your intention isn’t like a resolution that you rely on willpower to attain. Instead, setting your intention is choosing your destination and creating a step by step process to arrive there.
Setting intentions is about opening up to what is truly aligned with what you are yearning for. It requires you to set down what you don’t want and purposefully step toward what you do want.
You will need some time alone, a journal, a comfy place to be and maybe your favorite beverage.
And if you struggle with this problem, no worries, Mikki is here to help you. Go ahead and give yourself the gift of clarity for the new year and schedule a call with her. Mikki demonstrates how you hold all of the answers you need inside of you. Building the skill and muscle to slow down, turn inward and access the answers within is the greatest power we have, especially in relationships with others.
We’re in a world that is going so fast. We have to actually learn and practice slowing down. First it means becoming intentional about stopping what is not helping. Stop doing all busy things - then it starts with turning inward to offer some simple ways to slow down now, intentionally, so you can speed up later.

Mikki talks about expectations. Every day we consciously and unconsciously set expectations for ourselves and other people. We paint a picture in our minds of what SHOULD be happening. This is all good until the other people or the circumstances of life fail to meet that picture in our mind. When that picture isn’t met in real life, we feel disappointed, resentful and that can lead to shame and anger.
Mikki walks us through the process of peeling back the layers of our expectations so that we can become aware of our unexpressed, unexamined ones and create healthy ones instead.
If you are ready to explore what expectations you might have that are holding you back … then join me for a free workshop I am hosting Monday, June 27th at 2pm Eastern. In this episode Mikki is talking all about what the expectations are that we hold of being a “good mom” and how divorce inevitably changes that definition. When we become a co-parent there are identity shifts, new complexities and challenges that can challenge our ability to be that “good mom.”
Mikki will walk you through a process of uncovering your definition of mom and help you create one that supports you. If you want a positive change, it will require a useful definition of what kind of mom you want to be. And then taking aligned action toward being that person today.
If you are in the process of finding new definitions that help you create a better life then I want to invite you to a free, interactive workshop I am hosting on Re-Defining Family After Divorce, Thursday, May 19th at 1p Eastern / 10a Pacific. In this episode, Mikki opens up the conversation of what real self-care is, what it looks like and what it can accomplish. Self-care isn’t a luxury. Self-care is not selfish. Self-care is a necessity to be the woman, mom and human you want to be.
It seems counterintuitive to focus on yourself to be better for others, but it is true. When we are taking care of our mind, body and spirit every day, we gain the trust and confidence in our own capacity to show up for those we love, when things are hard, when our strength is needed most.

What if our jobs as moms is just to be clear and present to where our kids are at any moment? To be able to guide them through it without resisting, running and hiding?
When we learn to regulate ourselves then we are able to show up as the moms we want to be. Not driven by guilt or a need to “fix” everyone so we can feel better. We can let our kids be unhappy without making it mean we are a bad mom.

Dr. J and Mikki talk about how to help our kids navigate pressure, create and set goals and, most importantly, how we can support our kids in a healthy way.

In the last couple of episodes, we have talked a lot about Love, Trust, Boundaries and now we are going to the other side of this conversation… the plague that afflicts many of us…. people pleasing.
Why?
Because for so many of us this disease to please is what stands between us and the love, the relationships and life we desire.
When we are stuck in people pleasing, we are robbing ourselves of time, energy, money and integrity. We are buying into a gigantic lie that we are not enough, not worthy and not loved as we are and that we need to please others to earn love.
Not only is it a lie, it simply doesn’t work.
In this episode we are going to look at why we people please and how we can stop. How we can liberate ourselves from the prison and create more love, trust and goodness in our relationships.

In this episode, I am exploring self-trust.
Why?
Because when we don’t trust ourselves, we don’t live the life we want. We don’t show up the way we intend. We do things we regret. We look to everyone else to tell us what to do and become a rudder-less boat on the sea of life.
So we are going to look at how we can build more self-trust, learn to listen to our own internal guidance system so that we have an anchor to find safety in the chaos of life’s storms.
We are exploring how to access and listen to our own intuition so that we can maintain alignment by turning inward, knowing and trusting ourselves. When you trust yourself to show up ALL of the time, you create more love, beauty and abundance in your life. And isn’t that what we truly want out of this one precious life?
Then let’s dive in…
