In this episode of The Christian Wellbeing Show, host Michelle and co-host Stuart take an exciting look at the 'authority of the believer'.
They explore the stumbling blocks in people’s thinking about the authority of the believer that undermine the effectiveness of their faith. Stuart and Michelle discuss from the Bible the transformative power of understanding one's spiritual authority in Christ, and how this delegated authority is akin to a 'power of attorney,' enabling believers to bring healing and deliverance, and change and transform situations.
They emphasize the importance of aligning prayers with God's will, but not focussing on questions that undermine authority. Through biblical examples, including the centurion and Jesus' disciples, they highlight the importance of having a revelation of our God-given authority in the name of Jesus, how that can empower individuals in their spiritual and everyday lives, and how important it is for bringing positive and godly change into our world today.

In this FaithBuilder episode, host Michelle looks at understanding and embracing 'The Single Eye of Faith' - the idea that faith is more than just believing in Jesus; it is a substance and an assured expectation that we must hold on to and focus on even when our experience tells us something else.
The Bible describes faith as the evidence of things not seen and this episode emphasizes the importance of receiving the answer to prayers when you can’t yet see anything, aligning prayers with God's word and will avoiding double-mindedness, and refusing doubt, while compassionately addressing the “Why?” question, explaining the possible effects of time and trauma on faith, and encouraging the listener in how to maintain that faith in the face of adversity and negative experiences.
Through scripture, inspiring biblical examples and personal anecdotes, Michelle encourages listeners to hold on to faith with patience and singleminded-ness, believing that God can and will fulfill his promises.

This week on The Christian Wellbeing Show, host Michelle addresses the topic of trauma, how alone people can feel in this painful journey, the daily intensity of trying to survive, and the importance of people being able to look at others’ journeys to help them feel they are not alone. But how can they hear other people’s stories without being traumatised even more?
Through reflective discussions on the biblical stories of Adam and Eve, Joseph, Jacob, and Naomi, Michelle underscores the ancient roots of trauma, the resilience of the human spirit, and helps the sufferer realise they are not alone in their pain, with the distance of time provided by these Bible stories as a buffer, instead of the rawness that current stories might bring.
This gentle but honest look at trauma brings hope as Michelle uses these Bible stories to look at the possibilities in God of finding a compensation, discovering an unexpected plan, and even finding a blessing, however impossible it may seem.

This week Michelle is back with her ‘5 Simple Steps to Healthy Living’ series and in Step 2 is taking sugar - “The Sweet Deceiver” - to task.
Since the 1970’s, we have been constantly warned that we consume far too much sugar in our diets, but that hasn’t stopped us yet.
With its myriad of uses and addictive qualities, which are pushed on consumers by the food industry, it is no surprise that over 100 health conditions are directly related to the consumption of sugar.
Looking at the harmful impacts of sugar on physical and mental health, exploring its history, the process of its refinement, and its ubiquity in modern diets, Michelle leaves no stone unturned in her quest to help you cut down on sugar and live a more healthy life.

In this Faith Builder episode, Michelle addresses how using negative words has the power to shape our identity and beliefs, and how words can have a psychological effect on us in the long term.
Do you name yourself negatively? Do you speak badly about yourself? Research shows that negative self-talk has been proven to have a detrimental effect on mental, emotional, and physical health.
Drawing parallels with how God uses names and words to reveal Himself and others, this episode encourages renaming oneself with positive, empowering words aligned with biblical truths.
Highlighting the idea that positive words can reshape your self-perception, circumstances, and future, Michelle guides you on how to embrace positive declarations to create a healthier and more fulfilling life.

In this first Faith Builder episode, Michelle addresses the fact that some Christians mistakenly refer to themselves as ‘sinners’. She highlights that upon accepting Christ, believers are no longer labelled ‘sinners’ but have a new identity as the ‘righteousness of God in Christ’.
Even though it appears to be scriptural, she challenges the idea of having a ‘sin nature’, encouraging the listener that through Christ’s sacrifice and the believer’s faith in Him, the sinful nature is removed, replaced instead with the divine nature of God.
But what does the Bible actually say? What is the truth? And are you more free than you realise?
Michelle encourages listeners towards greater freedom by developing a ‘righteousness consciousness’ instead of a sin consciousness, immersing themselves in God’s Word and surrounding themselves with faith-building teachings and communities to help them live a victorious life.

This week on the show, Michelle and her co-host, Stuart, discuss the over-complicating of what a Christian is, and endeavour to keep things simple as they explore and complete the conversation in this second part of What is a Christian?
They explore what the word Christian means in a literal sense, including the origins of the word and how it transitioned from an insult to the exciting meaning it really has.
Together, they talk about the need to acknowledge and repent of sin, what sin is at a fundamental level, and the wonderful gift of salvation.
Stuart and Michelle ask the questions: What does it mean to be a Christian? Is it about believing? Is it about doing? Who is it for? And what is the difference between doing good works and believing in Christ?
They also take a fascinating look at what marks a Christian out and the fruit of a Christian life.

This week, Michelle is joined by Christine Paterson. Christine has devoted much of her life to living and working overseas for the sake of the gospel. She now runs FieldPartner International, an organisation which helps cross-cultural workers.
But Christine also has a very personal mission - to help people "Ditch the comparison game", a game which she defines as either feeling diminished by the actions of others, or constantly aiming for one-upmanship.
So, how can we be better? How can we stop comparing ourselves with others, and help others stop comparing themselves with us? And, have the answers been written in Scripture for us the whole time?"
ABOUT THE GUEST
With a degree in linguistics, a diploma in theology and a certified intercultural coach, Christine has seen the joys and challenges of cross-cultural living from every way round, as a child growing up in missions in Africa, a missionary wife and mother in Asia, raising five daughters, and finally to training others through their own international training platform. Her work with her husband, Ross, has included campus ministry, literature, radio work, placing professionals, and humanitarian projects. Her sense of responsibility and passion to provide good training to overseas workers extends to all Christians, to help them thrive and have resilience for the long haul.

Women - Exposing the Big Cover Up is the first in a series of honest & bold episodes on some of the strange expectations that have been placed on Christian women in the church, by the church. It's time for honesty and openness. Why? Because all injustices, legalism, coercion, abuses, unrighteousness, and affronts to the freedom bought by the blood of Jesus will eventually out! And they out for the wellbeing and good of us all, as individuals, as the church, and subsequently the world.
This episode delves into the controversial history of head coverings for women in the church. Michelle shares her personal experiences and reflections on the requirement for women to wear head coverings in church settings, particularly during the 80s and 90s. She discusses the pressure and coercion women faced to conform to this practice, highlighting the theological debates and the lack of clarity surrounding the scriptural basis for such a requirement. The episode challenges the silence and lack of accountability from church leaders who enforced this practice, calling for reflection and potentially an apology for the harm caused.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
The practice of requiring women to wear head coverings in church was a common expectation in certain Christian circles during the 80s and 90s.
The enforcement of head coverings for women was based on a misinterpretation of a scripture in 1 Corinthians 11, leading to a form of oppression and control.
The pressure on women to conform to the head covering rule was often enforced by church leaders, causing feelings of guilt and rebellion if not followed.
The sudden discontinuation of the head covering requirement in Western churches raises questions about its true significance and the lack of accountability or apology from those who enforced it.
BEST MOMENTS
"I spent the first years of my Christian life, mostly during the 80s and early 90s, with women being expected to wear a head covering in church."
"I was transported into a marvellously freeing relationship with him. One that gave freedom from things that were bad for me."
"I was so grieved. But in all of that time, I remained convinced that I had done the right thing."
"And all of this is control and abuse. It says, I as a man am okay just as I am before God. But somehow you as a woman are still not acceptable."

Both Michelle and Stuart emphasize the need for Christians to be aware of the spiritual battle taking place and to discern the truth amidst the noise. They discuss the dangers of blindly accepting mainstream narratives and encourages listeners to engage critically, research, and question. By being informed, Christians can pray effectively, resist evil, and stand up for the values that promote the goodness of God's kingdom.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Christians need to be informed about what is happening in the world in order to pray effectively and resist evil.
There are agendas and conspiracies at work that seek to harm and take away the freedoms and values that Christians hold dear.
Christians should not dismiss everything as conspiracy theories, but rather critically examine information and research to discern the truth.
Christians must be courageous and speak up against injustice and falsehoods, rallying together to make a positive impact.
Division and silence are tactics used by the enemy to weaken the Church, so Christians should strive for unity and stand firm in their beliefs.
BEST MOMENTS
"Nehemiah could have fallen into this. There are several things in that account. There are several times when he has things said that he could have believed and he didn't."
"As Christians, we have to be brave. There are so many people actually standing up against a lot of things that are going on who are not Christians."
"We can't say, oh yeah, but it's not them, it's the devil, and sort of use that as a reason to ignore what they're doing or think, oh well, it doesn't really matter, it's not really them."
"I think recognizing being a fit and free church, being well. Our well-being is not just about us as individuals. Our well-being is about us as Christians."
"And as believers, we are, as the Church, as the Ecclesia, which we talk about in other episodes of this podcast, what Jesus designed his people to be in the earth and in society."

Have you ever heard the phrase that 'children always bounce back'? This is the topic Michelle discusses in today's episode, sharing her own story about how a broken home affected her own childhood. She challenges the idea that children always bounce back from divorce, and emphasizes the long-lasting negative impact it can have on their lives. Michelle recounts her own experience of losing her mother at just four years old, being faced with multiple stepmothers and the sexualization she encountered both at home and at school. She discusses her own journey of healing, and the need for support and understanding in acknowledging childhood trauma.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Children don't always bounce back from a broken home and the impact can last for a long time.
Experiencing a broken home can have negative effects on a child's education and future.
Sexualization of children, especially girls, can have long-lasting impacts on their lives.
A broken home and the associated trauma can lead to self-destructive beliefs and insecurities.
It takes time and effort, with the help of God, to heal from the effects of a broken home and turn disadvantages into advantages.
BEST MOMENTS
"We can't just do anything and behave any way we want in our families and expect a broken home to not negatively impact our children. That's just unfair."
"To say that children just bounce back after they have lost one of their parents to divorce... is really a salve on the part of the parents, they want to make themselves feel better."
"A broken home, a breakdown in the marriage and a breakdown in the family is a trauma. It's what we would call an adverse childhood event."
"Trauma affects brain architecture. It actually affects the structure of the brain. It affects the neural pathways. And yes, God can heal that. But it can take years of working with God to understand why we feel the way we do as an adult who has been through a broken home as a child."
"Please remember, children are children. They don't always just bounce back. Some of them go on to have some real problems and dependencies and have horrible insecurities."

In today's episode, Michelle discusses the fallacy of "food freedom" within the context of Christianity. She shares personal anecdotes from her childhood, highlighting the unhealthy eating habits she developed and the impact they had on her health. Michelle then explores the concept of freedom in Christ and how it should not be misconstrued as a license to indulge in unhealthy behaviors. She emphasizes the importance of common sense, good sense, and wisdom in making choices that promote physical and spiritual wellbeing. Michelle also addresses the misconception of "moderation in all things" and clarifies the biblical perspective on self-control and making wise decisions.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
The concept of "food freedom" in Christianity can be controversial, as some believe that being set free in Christ means they can eat whatever they want without restrictions.
While freedom in Christ means being set free from the law, it does not mean that everything is permissible or beneficial. Common sense, good sense, and wisdom should still guide our choices.
The Holy Spirit is our leader and guide, not our taste buds. It is important to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit in making wise and healthful choices.
God cares about our health and has given us the Holy Spirit to lead us in truth and in the things that are truly good for us. We can choose a healthy lifestyle and make choices that align with God's intention for our well-being.
BEST MOMENTS
"There was a culture of Christians believing that they now had freedom in Christ... It doesn't matter anymore. All those things are under the law. We're free now, aren't we?"
"The Bible does talk about self-control... A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls."
"We are free to eat what we want. God won't stop us. But we're not free to eat what we want if we want to be healthy."
"There's such a vast choice and array of healthy foods... There's such a wonderful choice of healthy foods available."
"God really, really cares about our health... He really cares about your health."

Joined by co-host Stuart today, Michelle questions 'What Is Church?'. Both Michelle and Stuart have visited churches all across the world, experiencing different cultures. They discuss the different forms and structures of churches across the world, highlighting the similarities and differences to the one that are more familiar to them. This leads them to explore the historical context of church development, from the influence of Emperor Constantine to the Protestant Reformation. Stuart and Michelle touch on the concept of the Ecclesia, the gathering of believers with political implications, and the importance of worshiping in spirit and truth. They emphasize the need to reevaluate our understanding of church and consider its impact on society.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
The term "church" has picked up various meanings and can differ from culture to culture.
The traditional format of church gatherings, with a focus on a sermon and passive spectatorship, may not align with the New Testament model.
The word "Ecclesia" used by Jesus refers to a gathering with political implications, where believers are called out to advance God's kingdom in society.
Church should not be limited to a building or a weekly club-like gathering, but rather a community of believers impacting their communities and engaging in various spheres of society.
BEST MOMENTS
"Church has, over centuries now, has picked up quite a lot of baggage and can mean many different things to different people."
"We've remarked on the fact that you can go to a tribal village, yeah, with a straw roof, but there's somebody at the front wearing sort of a Western shirt and tie and has his microphone and PA system."
"We're not seeing, you know, if Jesus was to come to our meetings today, or even the Apostle Paul, I think we might be quite surprised at what the feedback would be."

In this episode, Michelle poses the question: Does God really care about your health? God has many important priorities, such as salvation, evangelism, discipleship, and fulfilling His kingdom purposes. That being said, Michelle points out that Jesus, who represented the Father while on earth, placed a significant emphasis on healing and restoring people's health. Out of the 37 miracles Jesus performed, 26 of them were related to healing, whether physical or spiritual.
