A new pop up prayer meeting has been invited, by Harriet Oleson, into Walnut Grove led by the somewhat charismatic Reverend Danforth. It's the usual run of the mill gathering until Reverened Danforth demonstrates his ability to cure those who are suffering from an affliction. He makes a wheelchair bound women walk, a man toss aside his crutches and a blind woman see. But what he can't do is cure a ruptured appendix....but he can use his charm to sway his listeners to believe what he wants them to hear. The only people who aren't falling for this are: The Ingalls, The Gravey's, Doc Baker and Reverend Alden. Because of this distraction, Reverend Alden is now in jeopardy of losing his position at the Walnut Grove Church. An out of town delivery brings Charles to the tent of Reverend Danfoth where he sees a repeat of miracles performed on the same people he witnessed back in Walnut Grove. Which leads to a confrontation I've been praying for. Did Harriet Oleson forget how serious having acute appendicitis is? Even going as far as contacting Reverent Alden's Manager/Superiors/ General Synod of the Church to try and get him cancelled. While the church does send someone to investigates Harriet's slanderous accusations, it's Harriet who is forced to deal with her own feelings of love and church. How long has Anna Craig been a widow living in Walnut Grove? Does Harriet need a reminder of what "making love" actually entails? Does Mr. Oleson know much of Harriet's life before their meeting?

It finally happened...They made Carrie the lead character in an episode. Charles, persuaded by Jonathan Garvey, decides to take on a month long employment with the new Telephone system coming into the area, leaving Caroline alone at home with the kids...once again. With Charles gone and everyone busy, Carrie is not sure where to be without getting potential injured or yelled out. Eventually Carrie is sent out to play on her own far away from home. This is where she meets Alyssa, the type of person who makes your vision go all hazy when she's around. Together these two proceed to go traipsing into worlds unexplored by Carrie and just be free. Meanwhile, that promising job Charles and Jonathan Garvey are working on is is anything but. With a pushy boss promising a bonus if the work is completed on time and a very questionable chef with a thing for potatoes managing the work crew...this job site is surviving. When the job is completed Charles returns home and Carrie tries to introduce her special friend. It's a long run episode that feels like a long run episode. Why doesn't Carrie have any friends around her own age she can hang out with? Where did Shaughnessy get his distillery set-up? What was really in that flower Alyssa gave Carrie to huff...smell?

Picking up exactly where the previous episode left off, the trek back to Walnut Grove from Winoka with Mary, Adam and the blind students moves on. Harriet continues to share her impertinent opinions about Joe Kagan and gushes how excited she is to meet a fellow philantorpisht in Miss Hester Sue Terhune. That's until Harriet finds out that Hester Sue is not a St. Louis Terhune but a Pascagoula Terhune.....oh, and Hester Sue is also a Black woman. As the caravan continues to travel the rocky mountainous terrain of the prairie, a young boy named Samson traveling in the group starts to explore the rocky terrain of life when he inquires why Mrs. Oleson hates him and Joe Kagan. Let's also not forget there is another river to cross and Adam Kendall was starting to show signs of distress with the previous body of water. As we cut back and forth between long takes of the traveling wagons and group we also get small vignettes of what's been happening back in Hero Township. And before we know it the entire episode is over, while Harriet overcomes the town's lone bigot she and everyone else welcome the students to their new home. Do you think Joe Kagan thinks he's seen a ghost when the praiseverse blips and his wife show up as Hester Sue Terhune? Will we get to see more of Samson, Sue and Thomas now that they are residents of Walnut Grove? Whose idea was it to wave at the blind students as they arrived?

We catch up with retired boxer Joe Kagan who is still living in Walnut Grove. Or at least is getting by. After two failed attempts (thank you Harriet and other local bigot Mr. Larabee) Joe is finally allowed to attend church with the rest of congregation (A Big thank you to Mr.Oleson) Meanwhile, back in Winoka, Mary and Adam are informed the church owned building the school for the blind operates out of has been sold to none other than local nuisance Mr.Standish. With only a month before being evicted, Mary writes home for help. And help is received as Mr.Hanson’s old giant house is donated for the purpose of being the new school for the blind. While trying to out due everyone’s generosity, Harriet donates all expenses needed to fix up the house. Not only that but upon hearing that a St. Louis Terhune (a socially elite family) will be joining the Winoka school for the blind on their trip, Harriet donates all her new bed furnishings. She also decides to come along on the trip to personally welcome Mary, Adam, the students and, most importantly Hester Sue Terhune, to their new home in Walnut Grove. But they got miles to go before they can sleep in their new place and many obstacles to overcome on the journey home. What other cherry picking does Harriet do from the holy scripture? How long is this trek from Winoka to Walnut Grove going to take with the blind students…and Harriet? Why is everyone so quiet on this long walk home?

It's finally happening!!! Mary is getting married. Leaving the kids at home, Charles and Caroline return to Winoka for their first born's wedding nuptials. And what a trip. As everyone sits around catching up, stories from Charles and Caroline's early years as parents causes Mary to question if she's capable of being more than just a wife...but a mother. When a Duststorm interrupts what could be considered the bachelor/bachelorette party, Mary and Adam are set out into the zero visibility storm to find a missing student. This episode is called The Wedding...of course there's a Happy ending. Is NO ONE on the series writing staff paying attention when they say the Ingalls leave Winoka on the 4th of July...return home, raise a calf, have a newspaper, then try and have them return before the 15th of August? Are Mary's nails just a gloss or a French tip? While the dust storm blew thought Winoka, what was happening back in Plum Creek?

When Harriet Oleson's long distance cousin moves to Walnut Grover and starts a local Newspaper, she proves that the pen is mightier than the sword especially when it's in her hands. With the power of persuasion/influence others at her finger tips, Harriet opens her own type of Pandora's box and lets loose a sting of misleads, half-truths, and questionable statements. Not only that, but the mercantile is also having weekly sales ( at the customers expense ) which again leads Harriet to be oblivious to the effects of her actions. Among the locals who are hurt by Harriet's words are new-to-the-area Erich Schiller, a young teen with parents unable to read English who happens to have earned his spot in the Spelling Bee Competition. After Harriet is given a taste of her of medicine, thanks to typesetters Laura and Albert, she comes back in full force to attack anyone and everyone. Which leads to Charles making a memorable sermon about what the responsibility of having the freedom of the press. How many more family members of Harriet are going to stop by Walnut Grove? If everyone knows Harriet Oleson in Walnut Grove, why are people trusting what she writes? How long have the Schiller's been living in Walnut Grove? The Country?

And just like dominos, following the arrival of the Ingalls, we get the Garvey's and the Oleson's. It's a Small Town reunion in the Dakota Territory. It's the first day of school, once again, for Mary as she begins the Burton School for the Blind in Iowa. And while Charles is dragged into the office of an unknown man to sign paperwork, Mary is introduced to her teacher: Adam Kendall. He very quickly serves to Mary some TLA (Tough Lovin' Adam) as he works on breaking her out of her self-pity shell and tries to get her acclimated to her new world. Mary, being the top student that she is, quickly excels at all the new/old lessons she is given. Until finally she gets her hands...fingers on what she's really been yearning for, learning how to Read. Meanwhile, our glimpses back at Walnut Grove show a more dire situation than before. The effects of the Railroad on the Grange members has escalated so much the population of Walnut Grove is dwindling and fast. When the news of Mary's return is announced it seems as though she might not have a place to return to. However, part of her doesn't want to return home but to follow Adam into Dakota Territory to set up a school for the blind. Mary's dream of become a teacher are no longer foolery but one hundred percent plausible...as well as a new bubbling romance with her teacher. And to ensure his family sticks together, Charles with Caroline in on the discussion and decision making this time, decide to follow Mary and start anew in the Dakota territory (once again). Is it appropriate for Mary to date her teacher...who also seems to have a noticeable age difference? With Mary moving on with her life, will the show now put its attention more on Laura? Who are the recipients of this seasons's end of season awards?
The population of Walnut Grove is about to increase with the arrival of Eva Simms' first baby! However, she's not the only one who will be increasing the population. The Ingalls house is also about to expand when it's announced that instead of going through "The Change" Caroline is actually pregnant. While things might be going smoothly for the two pregnancies, an off hand remark made by Charles starts Caroline to revisit a dark moment in the family's past: the unexpected death of their son Charles Fredrick Ingalls. Now Caroline is working herself up with the promise that the new baby will be a son. Caroline even has a brief encounter with a cheiromantist that reinforces this belief as well. However, this repeated talk of a guaranteed Son doesn't sit well with Charles who is really only looking to having a healthy baby. In the meantime, Mary is set to take over the teaching responsibilities for Mrs. Simms once her child is born and Carrie is trying to be a mommy all her own. Will Lucas Simms help with changing diapers of his new sibling? How much time does Eva Simms get off from work after having her child? Will Carrie ever get a tablet of her own?
Attorney at Law Rodger Whitehead arrives on behalf of the estate of Charles' late Uncle, Edward Warren Ingalls, founder of the Ingalls Carriage company. News spreads quickly of the new fortune and the first to arrive to congratulate them is Harriet Olseon who proceeds to call the Ingalls her new Best Friends. And very quickly the new financial gains are starting to pull the Ingalls in every direction even before seeing a penny of the inheritance. Charles finally gets his hands on what remains of his inheritance (after legal fees, court fees, debts paid...etc) and to satisfy the debt, an auction is set up with the only people in attendance being some of the closest friends to the Ingalls family. When things seem at their worst that's when things shine the best for the Ingalls. Did we just have another "Harvest of Friends" episode? What was the total line of credit that Harriet had extended to the Ingalls? Anyone else a little surprised on how quickly Charles accepted his credit line increase without even thinking about the events of "The Richest Man in Walnut Grove"?
With a paper banner outside the house, a nice table setting (minus the flowers and water that were accidentally spilled on it) the mood at Plum Creek is one for celebration: the wedding anniversary of Charles and Caroline Ingalls. The only thing missing is the groom. To pass the time Caroline relays the story of how her and Charles first meet. And in a first time in the prairieverse we get an entire episode told in flashbacks. Charles with his family relocate to Wisconsin and their neighbors are the Holbrooks which happen to include a young girl named Caroline. Slowly, we see a shy Charles emerge from his shell and open up to Caroline. Especially when he witnesses her being pestered by Harold Watson, the son of local school master Mr. Watson. And Mr.Watson seems to be into Pestering/punishing Charles as much as his son likes to pester Caroline. Between house construction, berrying picking, dance lessons, and flogging we get a simple love story of how boy meets girl on the prairie....the woods of Wisconsin. How does one thread a seed to make a necklace? Is telling someone their parent is full of applesauce really an insult? Will there be another flashback episode that dives into the history of Charles and Caroline?
Walnut Grove is the new home of Father and Son duo: Adam and Luke Simms. One his first day of school Luke meets Nellie Oleson whom is immediately smitten with the young man. Not only that but her usual solution of getting people to like her, bribery via candy, is not going to work forcing Nellie to step outside of her comfort zone. Speaking of comfort zones, Harriet Oleson is also out of hers when she finds out her daughter is in love with the son of a Pig Farmer. Miss Beadle doesn't seem to mind the pig farmer occupation, in fact she finds any reason/excuse to head to the Simms farm to talk with Adam. And like father, like son, these men end up with a woman by their side. While Miss Beaddle is reluctant to accept the marriage proposal that was offered to her, Nellie and Luke....sell a sow, steal a buckboard and elope to Sleepy eye to find the nearest Justice of the Peace and get married. Needless to say Harriet with the Shotgun (the widow maker) along with Mr. Oleson, Miss Beadle, and Mr Simms head to Sleepy Eye. And while one marriage is dissolved, after a bit of hilarity, a second wedding takes place. Is anyone disappointed we didn't see more of the Ingalllas in the is episode? With the parents away in Sleepy Eye, what sort of hijinks did Willie get into at the Mercantile? How did we get to the beginning of summer with no mention of winter taking place?
Walnut Grove is about to collide with the real world....when real life historical figures Jesse and Frank James show up in town after a botched bank robbery. Using the excuse of having Swamp Fever, the two men manage to remain hidden in a rental property while hiring Mary as their personal assistant to run errands in town. Meanwhile, Mary is having a challenging time in school when she tries to understand the point of view of the Civil war from the South's Perspective. Which gets a young fellow classmate, Bobby Ford, upset and his father isn't too far behind. In the midst of it all, a group of Bounty Hunters have also arrived in town, with a witness, clamining to know that the James brothers are in town. Not only that, they take over the town to try and flush out the criminals. However, the law abiding men of Walnut Grove are remaining tight lipped about things and refuse to help. And if that wasn't enough, Mary decides to thank Frank James (aka Andy Dobbs) for his input about the Civil War and ends up being taken hostage. Leave it to Charles and Jonathan Garvey to save Mary, free the town, humiliate the bounty hunters and let the bad guys get away. It was 1876 at the end of Season 2 so why is it only September 1876 at the beginning of this episode in Season 4? Why is Laura barely even a supporting cast member in this episode? Which is worse Mountain Fever or Swamp fever?
Mary is left in charge as Charles and Caroline head out on a two day trip to Twin Falls. It's not a luxurious suite, fancy train ride or tasty meals, but a trip away from home is still a trip for Caroline. While Laura has to deal with Mary being the authoritative figure at Plum Creek, the surrounding area is having, what they believe to be, are attacks on barn animals by a pack of wolves. When Laura and Andy Garvey, the son of new resident Jonathan Garvey, comer across a trapped "Dog" they rescue it and bring it home. Only to discover what they brought home was a she-wolf and her pups. It doesn't take long before this suppose-to-be-a secret is released into the community. With Harriet Oleson leading the charge or at least sharing the information with Judd Larabee, also a new resident whom happens to haver some history with Jonathan Garvey. Realizing the animals are not safe at his place Andy Takes them to Plum Creek. As little Carrie calls Laure in for Dinner, the pack of animals come down and trap the Ingallas girls, Andy Garvey, two pups, a she-wolf, and Bandit in the barn. Before long the pack finds its way into the barn, moving the group to even higher ground. In a long shot, Bandit, is sent out the window to retrieve Jonathan Garvey and help is delivered. And what is finally reavealed to the residents of Walnut Grove this assumed pack of wolves was actual a pack of wild dogs. Does anyone in Walnut Grove know what a wolf looks like? Will Mary ever want to be left in charge again? Will Charles build a roof of sorts for the chicken coop?
What starts as a playful afternoon down at the swimming hole (minus the two young peeping Toms) turns into a family nightmare when a local girl drowns. Eloise Taylor, the young girl's mother, is distraught with grief and lashes out at everyone around here, including Laura, whom Eloise Taylor directly blames for her daughter's death. Not even the silly hijinks of Jonathan Garvey can help lighten the mood. However, with a little time ( a day or two) Laura decides on a random act of kindness and stops by the Taylor house. And once inside the house, Eloise starts to have visions of her daughter back from the dead...only dressed in Laura's clothes. Not only that, Eloise manages to abduct Laura leaving her stranded in the Root Cellar. When Laura's absences is noticed all eyes turn to Bubsy, a local recluse, who happens to somehow be in possession of Laura's belongings. Eventually, he is apprehended and questioned by Charles, Jonathan and the men of Walnut Grove but all of this leads nowhere. In a strange twist of fate, Harriet Oleson is the one who saves the day by spilling the T about what Eloise Taylor said and did when visiting the Mercantile earlier. Will the residents of Walnut Grove find a new swimming spot? Who is Busby and why does Walnut Grove seem to know all about him? Considering how well Eloise and Cal can hit their targets, Would Ellen have been a sharp-shooter as well?
It's the return of John Junior Sanderson...again. Out of the Blue, Mary receives a letter from her estranged fiancé in Chicago. Letting her teenage emotions take control, Mary mopes around the little house wishing she could visit Chicago...John Junior. Coincidentally, Charles is filling in as the local representative for the Grange at a convention in Chicago. And while a free trip to Chicago sounds like fun to Caroline, she ultimately decides to give her seat up for Mary. As well as gift Mary a dress for which Mary can attend a cotillion. And what a trip! From the fancy upgrades on the train to a hotel suite that could house the Little House ( plus, there are two separate bedroom with ensuite bathrooms), this trip is extravagant. Mary does reunite with John Junior and is introduced to his Special friend Wesley Cox, who seems to always be around. Meanwhile, Charles is slowly learning that the Grange he has always pride himself being a member of is not all it seems: Libations, debauchery, Fancy Ladies, buying votes. It's enough to make this small town Farmer ready to head back to the small town. Mary, also is finding out that things are not what they seem after finally confessing she loves John Junior. Despite all the elegance and luxuries, Charles and Mary both know it's all just a facade and they are ready to get back to honest Walnut Grove.
