We have a special bonus episode this week. Due to us now covering both the original UK and US adaptation versions of "Ghosts" we thought it would be fitting to take a little time to compare the two. So listen in as we focus on the major differences between the two pilots and find out which we thought was the better of the two.
"Ghosts" is a sitcom that premiered on CBS in 2021 that was adapted from the British series of the same name. The story centers on Sam Arondekar (Rose McIver) and her husband Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar), who inherit an old mansion. After a near-death experience, Sam starts seeing and interacting with ghosts from various time periods who inhabit the house.
The US version aimed to create a more optimistic tone and highlight the achievements of the main characters, Sam and Jay, rather than their failures. "Ghosts" has received a positive reception from both viewers and critics. After being fans of the UK version after covering it the year before, will the S1E1 guys give this adaption the green-light as well? Listen as they deep dive the show's pilot episode.

The show was created by Gabe Kaplan, who also played the character, Gabe Kotter, a former Sweathog who returns to his alma mater to teach a group of underprivileged students. In the late '80s renowned television writer Don Reo developed a show based on the novel The Catcher in the Rye. "Everybody Hates Chris" is a show inspired by comedian Chris Rock's memories growing up in Brooklyn. And even though everybody seems to love Raymond, unfortunately the same sentiment is not shared towards Chris. Although it seems odd to think that anybody other than Will and Jada could hate Chris Rock. The show is somewhat autobiographic but plenty of elements of the story have been changed for television. Real life Chris has a different amount of siblings and even grew up a decade earlier than what the show depicts, so don't try using this show to write any book reports.

It's hard to find a person that has never seen Happy Days. This iconic show which represented life in the '50s is easily regarded as one of the most popular shows of the '70s. Set in Milwaukee, WI we meet Richie Cunningham, an all American boy and join him in his day to day interacting with his friends and family. The show was met with moderate success but by its second season was already seeing a dip in the ratings. To counter this the show's creator, Gary Marshall retooled the format a bit focusing on broad comedy and increasing the role of a minor character, a cool biker who went by the name of "Fonzie". These changes quickly turned Happy Days into the number 1 program by the mid '70s. Fonzie became a pop culture phenomenon and became one of the most merchandised characters in television history.

Seinfeld is without a doubt one of the biggest shows of all time. The show was widely popular throughout its 9 season run and somehow 25 years since its final episode still remains one of the most watched shows through syndication and streaming. Its modern day pop culture relevance is insurmountable. However, "The Show About Nothing" was nearly "The Show That Never Was". When you look at some of the greatest sitcoms of all times many either had a spin-off series or there were at least plans to make one. Cheers was no different. Only four months after the bar where everybody knows your name closed for the final time we found ourselves once again catching up with Dr. Frasier Crane. The producers of the new show didn't want the network demanding that his Cheers costars fill the first season with guest spots so they decided to take the character and move him as far from Boston as possible. "Are You Being Served?" is a British sitcom that first premiered in 1972. The show is about the misadventures between the staff of the women's and men's clothing sections who are now forced to share a floor at a large department store. Inspired by one of the show's co-creators experiences working at a clothing store, this show was originally created as part of the Comedy Playhouse series. After the episode was already filmed the BBC actually chose to not broadcast the program. The pilot eventually got an opportunity to be aired as a filler during the 1972 Summer Olympics when the coverage of the games was interrupted by the Munich massacre on 8 September 1972. The show was well received and actually lead to a full series being produced. This eventually turned into a 10 series run with a movie, spin offs, specials, and international adaptations.

"New Girl" is a show about a bubbly and quirky teacher in her early 30s named Jess who finds herself living in a loft with three men she found in an ad due to abruptly moving out of her old apartment after catching her boyfriend cheating. Originally working under the title "Chicks & Dicks" the show originally was meant to be more of a "Will & Grace" style comedy before evolving into the more socially oriented version that it became.

A show that the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights called "barbaric". Lucky Louie was an HBO original that was a bit of a departure from most of their other programing. To start, the channel rarely made sitcoms and of the few this was the first that was actually recorded in front of a live studio audience. Lucky Louie was also without the constraints of traditional sitcoms in that it had no language limitations. The show stars Louis C.K. who plays a part time mechanic struggling to get by with a wife and daughter. The show was largely inspired by Norman Lear sitcoms and "The Honeymooners". They even went as far as to use the blueprints for The Honeymooners set to create their own. From its debut in in 1985 all the way to modern day "The Golden Girls" has remained a staple in modern television. Despite the fact that the series finale first aired over 20 years ago the show manages to remain just as relevant in pop culture now than it was then. All this despite being a show about a group of older women. The show centered around a 4 women who all ended up living together in Miami after finding themselves either divorced or widowed, a concept that may not initially leap out at you as comedic gold. But the real core of the show is the bond these women had created and their strong friendship which in turn is relatable to viewers all ages.
The show had an interesting origin. One year prior to its debut NBC held a presentation to help promote the network’s programming to potential advertisers. At this presentation actresses Doris Roberts and Selma Diamond performed a sketch in which they parodied the network's hit show "Miami Vice" where they played two retirees playing cards in a Florida community and named it "Miami Nice". The sketch was a hit among its audience and as result the execs at NBC decided to take the concept and develop it into the show we know how as The Golden Girls.

The show was given the opportunity of a lifetime when thrown in the 8:30 timeslot placing it right in between the networks two biggest hits, "Friends" & "Seinfeld". The show however was written-off as one in a long line of "singles in the city" sitcoms that emerged in the mid-1990s. You would never be able to have an entire sitcom focused around a holiday like Christmas with weekly episodic television. A show celebrating the same holiday for 4 to 6 months doesn't make much sense. Fortunately, due to the Netflix format where an entire season drops at once it's a lot easier to make something like that happen. Unfortunately, the result of that is this weeks show, "Merry Happy Whatever". For whatever reason Netflix still hasn't been able to knock a sitcom out of the park. The show follows Don (Played by Dennis Quaid) The head of the Quinn household as all his children return home to follow their annual Christmas traditions. Routine becomes a little complicated when his youngest child Emily brings home her boyfriend Matt from California for the holiday.

Starting in the year 2000 "Titus" was able to accomplish something that seemed near impossible in the world of television... Test the limits on what Fox was okay with airing. This show which was based on the life and comedy of the shows leading man Christopher Titus was not afraid to push boundaries. In fact, there were multiple episodes of the show that either weren't aired or were postponed and aired out of order due to content. With all that being said this show isn't necessarily that edgy, it was more that the people in charge of this show were very unwilling to compromise on almost every detail behind it. There was even a rule that the studio couldn't add any canned laughter to strengthen the sound if the studio audience wasn't lively enough. Eventually Fox had their fix and despite pulling decent ratings the show was cancelled after its third season. Were the boundaries really being pushed too far or were they sitting right in the comedic sweet spot? Find out as we review Titus' pilot episode, "Sex With Pudding".

A show that George Clooney was quoted as saying was "a particular low point" in his career. "Baby Talk" was a television adaptation of the hit movie "Look Who's Talking" The show was created by Amy Heckerling, the writer and director of the original film and Ed Weinberger, who co-created such hit shows as "Taxi" & "The Cosby Show". The show was even originally slated to be called Look Who's Talking until it was determined that it may cause confusion with the sequel that would be airing concurrently. This show also readapted and recast the main characters so we don't see the likes of John Travolta and Kirstie Alley reprising their roles and instead of the baby being voiced by Bruce Willis the network went with Tony Danza who was already starring in the show "Who's The Boss" at the same time.
Despite having the likes of Danza and Clooney involved in the project the show just didn't perform well. Shockingly a full second season was eventually ordered but not before a total re-haul changing nearly the entire cast and location. Those adjustments did little to improve ratings and the show was canceled at the conclusion of the season. But with all this in mind does the pilot episode have enough laughs to make you want to watch more? Listen as we do a deep dive of the show's pilot episode, "Baby Love".

"Grounded For Life" was a sitcom that depicted a family where the parents had children early in life and are now raising three kids while in their early 30s. The show's original network Fox made the decision to cancel the show early into its 3rd season but then was picked up by The WB where it remained until the end of its fifth and final season.

It would be safe to assume that a large percentage of people remember the show "Charles In Charge". The show ran for 126 episodes and had a very strong run in syndication. But despite being one of the more popular shows of the late '80s, if you were to start watching the show again from the first episode the majority of you would have a hard time remembering most of the cast. That's because after a first season of mediocre ratings, CBS decided to pull the trigger on the show. The entire cast, with the exception of Scott Baio (Charles) and Willie Aames (Buddy) was changed. LL Cool J is one of those artists that has seemed to effortlessly transition from the music world to acting. From shows like "NCIS: Los Angeles" to movies such as "Deep Blue Sea" it's pretty common to see him on your television screen. But in 1995 LL still had a fairly limited amount of acting credits when he was cast to be the main role in the NBC sitcom "In The House".
In the show he stars as Marion Hill, a former NFL player who due to some unfortunate financial troubles needs to rent his house to a woman and her two children to help cover the bills. The show took on a total overhaul when the majority of the cast was changed in season 3 after the show moved to UPN. But was the original format solid enough to last? Listen as the boys deep dive their pilot episode, "Getting To Know You".
Starring: LL Cool J, Debbie Allen, Lisa Arrindell, Jeff Wood, & Maia Campbell
"The Nanny" is the result of a chance meeting between Fran Drescher and former president of CBS, Jeff Sagansky on a transatlantic flight. On said flight Drescher was able to convince Sagansky to meet with her in LA to pitch a television show. Although at the time she didn't actually have a pitch in mind she eventually came up with an idea for a modern twist on "The Sound of Music". From this the Nanny was born and Fran Drescher herself would be in the starring role playing a fashionista turned nanny after a day of door to door cosmetic sales lands her at the house of a rich widowed Broadway producer. The Nanny would go on to be one of the biggest shows in the '90s.
Despite all the show's success were they able to land all that TV magic in their pilot episode? Listen as the boys do an extreme deep dive of The Nanny's pilot episode.
Starring: Fran Drescher, Charles Shaughnessy, Daniel Davis, Lauren Lane, Nicholle Tom, Benjamin Salisbury, & Madeline Zima
That '80s Show was given all the tools to succeed. The show had both the creators and network from That '70s Show behind it. But instead of having a 200 episode run of its own, this show fell a little shy... By about 187 episodes. Was the magic just not in the air for this one? What was so different about the approach that kept it from succeeding like its '70s counterpart? Listen as the boys review the pilot episode, "That '80s Pilot" to find out.
Starring: Glenn Howerton, Tinsley Grimes, Chyler Leigh, Eddie Shin, Brittany Daniel, Margaret Smith, & Geoff Pierson
It's very rare when someone is able to star in back to back hit television shows but Melissa Joan Hart was able to do just that when shortly after wrapping up "Clarissa Explains It All" went on to star in this weeks episode, "Sabrina The Teenage Witch". The show chronicles the adventures of Sabrina Spellman, a girl who discovers on her 16th birthday that she is a witch. The show, which was based on the Archie Comics series of the same name was a near instant hit and ended up with a seven season run. So with that in mind a sitcom about a witch living in Massachusetts seemed like the perfect Halloween episode for this year. Will the boys give this one a green-light or are they just too far removed from when we were the target demographic. Listen as they review the pilot episode and find out.
Starring: Melissa Joan Hart, Beth Broderick, Caroline Rhea, Nate Richert, Nick Bakay, Jenna Leigh Green. Michelle Beaudoin, Paul Feig, Penn Gillette, Teller, & Debbie Harry

The Munsters is one of the most beloved shows to come out of the 60s... But we're not covering that show, we tackled that one last year (go back in the archives to listen). This week we're here to talk about "The Munsters Today"!
The Munsters Today is a revival of the original show where the family accidentally sleeps for over 20 years and then find themselves having to adjust to life in the 80s. The new version of the show is shot in color and has a whole new cast portraying the same characters we came to know and love in the original.

Starring: John Schuck, Lee Meriwether, Jason Marsden, Hilary Van Dyke, & Howard Morton
What might be a surprise to many American television fans, "What We Do in the Shadows" was not the first spinoff show to come from the movie of the same name. Before it was "Wellington Paranormal". Jemaine Clement created this paranormal cop show mocumentary using the characters Officer O'Leary and Officer Minogue who were seen very briefly in the film he and Taika Waititi made.
The show focuses on a division of the New Zealand Police Department specializing in paranormal activity. Originally airing in its native country of New Zealand in 2018, the show would eventually find a second home airing in the United States on The CW network 3 years later.
Can Wellington Paranormal get the same perfect score that the S1E1 boys gave its sister sitcom? Listen as they review the pilot episode, "Demon Girl" to find out.
Starring: Mike Minogue, Karen O'Leary, Maaka Pohatu, Thomas Sainsbury, & Erika Camacho

Cheers was an absolute mega hit which will forever be remembered as one of the greatest shows of all time. Starring Ted Danson as the fictional former Red Sox pitcher Sam Malone, the show focuses on the day to day of a bar's staff and its regulars. To this day the Boston bar that the show was based on remains a popular tourist attraction.

When Lisa McGee created "Derry Girls", it was mainly a collection of things that actually happened to her growing up. The show is a British teen sitcom based around five teenagers living in mid-1990s Derry while attending Our Lady Immaculate College, a fictional girl's Catholic secondary school based on the real-life Thornhill College, where McGee herself studied. In many ways, "The Big Bang Theory" is what really brought nerd culture to the forefront after it became a fast breakout hit when it first debuted in 2007 A show about two scientist who enjoyed comic books, science fiction, role playing games, and so much more hadn't really gotten much love on prime time television. And certainly not as main characters depicted in such a positive light. The show pulled strong ratings throughout the entirety of its 12 season run which is no easy feat.
Four years after its final episode aired we look back at the shows pilot episode and try to better understand why you couldn't walk past a single kiosk at any mall without seeing a "Bazinga" shirt. Will the S1E1 boys green-light their pilot episode? Listen and find out.
Starring: Kaley Cuoco, Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki, Simon Helberg, & Kunal Nayyar
When it comes to "Rob", Jace Lacob of The Daily Beast described it as CBS's "worst new show" and wrote that it "offers a wafer-thin appreciation and awareness of Mexican culture". Robert Bianco of USA Today wrote "Some of this barrage of stereotypes might be passable if even one character were intelligently written and skillfully played". So with reviews like that clearly we needed to investigate.
"Rob" stars SNL alumni Rob Schneider as a middle aged man who recently gets thrown into a world of Mexican-American culture after getting married to a woman in a tight-knit family. The show was created by Schneider and former Saturday Night Live writer, Lew Morton.
Was this show as bad as advertised or was it not given a fair shot? Listen as we go back to 2012 to review Rob's pilot episode.

One might wonder how Jim Belushi was originally chosen to be the lead on his own sitcom. But knowing their lineage may help put those pieces together. In 1979 Laraine Newman & John Belushi shared a stage as two of the founding cast members on the comedy staple "Saturday Night Live". 22 years later Laraine's sister Tracy develops a sitcom based around John's brother, Jim. From that, "According To Jim" was born. The show centered around Jim, a macho everyman living with his wife and 3 kids. The show was an instant success and found itself soon becoming the number two program on ABC. The show remained a popular show on the network for the entirety of its 8 season run, right up until its cancelation in 2009.
Will "According To Jim" also be an instant success with the S1E1 boys? Find out at they review the shows pilot episode.

Debuting in first-run syndication on September 7, 1985, "Small Wonder" starred 10-year-old Tiffany Brissette as Vicki, a robot made to look like a girl who lives with her inventor and his family. Yes, you heard that right. And for as wild as a premise like that is, the show was very popular in its 4 season run. With that in mind it only made sense for us to look back at a show as wild in concept as this and see if something so strange could actually hold the test of time.
Almost 37 years to the day after it originally aired in homes across the country we revisit Small Wonder's pilot episode, "Vicki's Homecoming" to see if this show and Vicki needed to have their cords unplugged before it was too late.

Stand-up comedian George Lopez had long expressed his desire to star in a sitcom where he could play a fictionalized version of himself much like Seinfeld. Additionally, he wanted to create a show that portrayed Latinos in a positive light due to a lack of representation in television. But getting TV deal isn't such an easy task. Eventually, Sandra Bullock of all people had been put on to his comedy and decided to help develop a show around him.
ABC decided to move forward with this project and The George Lopez Show was born. The show lasted six seasons but was actually cancelled due to a lack of ratings. It has been said that an ever changing timeslot and being put up against shows like "American Idol" put them at a severe disadvantage that would cause it's eventual cancelation.
Did this show get a bad deal handed to them or was it just not solid enough to deserve a longer run in a better time slot? Listen as we deep dive the show's pilot episode, "Prototype".
Will & Grace was the brainchild of the show's co-creators Max Mutchnick and David Kohan who looked to develop a show around the real-life friendship of Mutchnick and Janet Eisenberg which had been a bond since childhood. The two dated for a while but the romantic chemistry was bever there. Come to find out Max was gay. And after Janet's initial shock from the news the two ended up forming a tight bond as friends because the two indeed did love one another.
After some adjustments this premise was adapted into a sitcom for NBC using Eric McCormack in the role of "Will" and Debra Messing being cast to play "Grace". The show would go on to last 11 seasons and won many awards along the way. But was this show good right from the first episode? Listen in as the S1E1 guys review the show's first episode, "Love and Marriage".
After the success of a web series named Italian Spiderman, SBS an Australian broadcaster contacted its creators in regards to adapting it for television. Unfortunately due to licensing issues, such a thing was unable to be made into a reality. Still interested in partnering up, SBS asked Alrugo Entertainment to develop a different show instead. Three different shows were then pitched and the one that was picked up became what we now know to be "Danger 5".
The show, which was recorded in 2012 takes place during World War 2 but is stylized to look like it was recorded in the 1960's. Danger 5 is a group of five international spies on a mission to kill Adolf Hitler and stop him from world domination... Yes, you heard that correctly. This show was truly unique in more ways than could ever be explained. Was this out of the box approach at television programming enough to entertain the S1E1 guys? Find out as they review Danger 5's pilot episode, "I Danced For Hitler".
In the early 90's Andrew Dice Clay was an unstoppable force doing record breaking sold out shows across the country performing stand-up. He was the first comedian to sell out two consecutive nights at Madison Square Garden. At the time it seemed as if no other comedian could ever reach the heights that Dice hit. But by the mid 90's Andrew Dice Clay was starting to feel like Diceman character had "sort of gone out of hand" and wanted to use that as an opportunity to pursue more opportunities outside of stand-up. This lead to him signing a development deal with CBS that would eventually lead to his first staring roll in a sitcom called "Bless This House".
Bless This House, which had him billed simply as "Andrew Clay" still allowed him to be somewhat edgy but with a more toned down approach, showing him as a working man with a wife and kids. The show was met with mixed reviews and often noted it as a modern day "Honeymooners". Sadly the show never made it out of the first season. Did Bless This House get a fair run or did it have the legs to make it past its 16 episode run? Listen as the S1E1 boys take a deep dive into its pilot episode.
Boy Meets World is the coming of age story about a boy named Cory Matthews. A young boy from Philadelphia who has the misfortune of living next door to his teacher. Show creator Michael Jacobs already had a string of success after developing such hit shows as, My Two Dads, Charles In Charge, and Dinosaurs. For his next show he wanted to be able to created a show from the perspective of the middle child of the family, where nearly every other show would focus on the parents or oldest sibling. He also wanted to do so in a way that didn't talk down to kids so much. From this the "Untitled Ben Savage Project was born. After a few early cast changes and a more suitable name for the show Boy Meets World premiered on ABC's TGIF lineup and remained there throughout its entire 7 season run.

In the early 90's comedian Martin Lawrence was on the rise, between hosting HBO's "Def Comedy Jam" and movie rolls in "Do The Right Thing" and "House Party". This show ended up lasting considerably longer than the actual war it was depicting. When M*A*S*H aired its final episode it was estimated that it was viewed by over 125 million people! But can this smash hit of a show get the green-light from the S1E1 guys? Find out as we review their pilot episode.

In 1994, executives at the WB network approached "Married... with Children" co-creator Ron Leavitt and asked him to create a knockoff of his prior hit. The result was "Unhappily Ever After", which premiered in early 1995. There were some key differences with this show. Jack moves out of the house he shared with his wife and 3 kids (played by Kevin Connolly, Nikki Cox, & Justin Berfield). Another key difference, and one that made this show stand out was Jack often talked to his youngest son's stuffed rabbit "Mr. Floppy" (voiced by Bobcat Goldthwait), who would seemingly come alive whenever the two were alone due to Jack's schizophrenia.
